After some practise I finally learned my last major speed trick, to pass through the Zebetite! So now I finally could avoid all the Missiles that were collected before to shot them, and save more time. The result is a new personal record for any%! 0:43 with 27% Welcome in the Club, Nightcom! :P

I feel obliged to point out that there was a recent run on SDA which you should probably use as reference.

I feel obliged to point out that the topic about the aforementioned speedrun is already 3 pages long. ;)

New personal record for me again! Any% in 0:42 with 27% The tradition is continuing: Since 2005 (started with 0:44) I could improve my any% time by 1 min every new year. :-) This run is once again somewhat improved in skill-based techniques, and maybe slightly in boss fights. However it also has some flaws, like the need to repeat Zebetite skip trick 3 times in order to get it to work. But nevertheless it's a overall faster run to still hold 0:42 despite of that, and played with more knowledge and skill than the previous ones. Enjoy! PS: Only 10 min left till WR! Hotarubi, I come for you! :-P (joke)

Hah, congrats! I've just improved my time as well, playing on 1.51. Only 25 minutes left to WR! Hotarubi, rest peacefully!

Moozooh, if thats true you should definitely upload a smv (I hope you know that recording while playing seriously is a must)! I need some training for my risible muscles once again! :-P EDIT: Ahh, already did here, sorry for not noticing before...

I play much better now, I just need training. I only speedrun, like, once a month or so, so I screw up much more than you, but I already can do many difficult maneuvers more freely now. Training should cure the moments of indecisiveness and those screw ups. I feel I can do much better than that, sub-50 should be possible with more practice.

It's unbelieveable, but I just pulled off a 0:39 run out of nowhere and broke the 40 min barrier the first time ever!!! Super Metroid - unassisted SS any% in 0:39 It's even a very low 0:39 (39,26 to be exact). I still can't believe how I managed to get such a crazy time, having only a 0:42 as the second best attempt. 0_o The most crazy thing is, I was (and still am) slightly drunk while doing this run. Maybe this got me to risk much more than I would usually do, and therefore I executed plenty of time saving tricks, which luckily went pretty successfull most of the time. I somehow felt like playing myself into a rush with alot of self-confidence to try new things all the time. Because of that, I guess from now on, I should only do speedruns when being in slight drunk-mode. :P I especially tried to improve Boss fights, as Tonski once suggested me, and attempted a 3 round Phantoon kill the first time. Although it didn't work out yet, all the other Bosses went pretty good IMO. Other than that I managed to execute almost all the other tricky moves pretty well, including the WS gravity statue shine, pillar shine, WS big enemy room shine, and other tricks. I'm pretty sure this time will be my best attempt for a long time now, since with my current skill I see no way to improve it any more. Enjoy!

Whoa. o_0 I knew 00:42 wasn't the limit for you, since if you played more aggressively, you would do it much faster. And now, there's a proof.

0:39 is an incredible time. Wow. Me, I did a crappy 0:52 (single segment) in 2003 and an even crappier 0:44 (multi-segment) in 2005. (Files.) Assuming linear progress, that means I should be able to do 0:36 this year :P

Thanks guys. I have watched your 0:44 run in 2005, Fredrik. I think it was the run which motivated me to do my own 0:44 that time. :-) And you indeed seem to have much room for improvement with your skill. I'm sure you can get around 0:40 with some practise and better boss-strategies. But yeah, going by the time tradition, you should pull off a 0:36 run this year. Go for it! :-P

I want to note that I finished my first unassisted suitless run ever, done in only 6 segments (legit ingame saves)! Got a solid completion time of 1:14! Get more details and the smv-bundle of that run here: http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=171619#171619 Enjoy!

Wow. I had no idea playing through the game suitless would entail so much craziness. I'm confused, though- why'd you use separate smvs? Doesn't Snes9x 1.51 support resets?

So that he'd be able to replay segments without rerecording or unnecessarily increasing movie lengths.

Exactly. Rerecords are a emulator feature, and I wanted to make this run as close to console conditions as possible.

Awesome run Saturn. I had some questions though. How did you shinespark out of draygon's room? Did the crystal flash followed by draygon carrying you cause the game to think you built up a shine? I see the grapple beam was very useful in this run, why don't you collect it in your RBO run? Is it possible to get out of the room after draygon without the x-ray scope climbing?

Because it's no-miniboss run as well.

1. Yes. The key is to interrupt/cancel the CF animation before it finishes by itself by letting Draygon grabbing you during it. However he will only do it when the gunk gets you, so you have to lay the powerbomb very early to not kill it completely. It's a somewhat different shine than the blue suit, since it's not visible, and doesn't require to crouching for it first. But it's only a 1-time usable one, like the blue suit. 2. What moozooh said, and also because I'm pretty sure that it would be slower in the end, having the TASing possibilities to get past Maridia pretty quickly even without it. 3. No. Even with TASing not. You can however transport the shinespark possibility to this room by skipping it in Draygons room and kill Draygon from the top ledge. But since this is extremely luck based on console, I didn't even bother to try. Also that way you won't be able to get the Space Jump in any case, which will save a good deal of time later.

Sorry for double post, but I have news again: Since I knew that my recent suitless run was not optimized in route, I decided to give it another go using a much better route now. I managed to shave off 10 min compared to v1, and got a time of 1:04, with only 48% of items collected in total! Used one more segment this time, to allow for more risky playing during LN. Smv bundle and details once again here: http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=171781#171781 Enjoy!

I recently decided to give a single segmented 100% run a go again, since the last one I did was from 2005, which lacked on some tricks that were discovered later (for example Spores Super without CF), and also because my realtime skill level improved a bit by now. After instantly geting a 1:03 in my first recent attempt (which already is a 4 min improvement over the last run), I got a 1:01 in the next one, and finally managed to break the 1 hour mark the first time ever by geting a 0:59!! (59,57 to be exactly) Super Metroid - 100% speedrun in 0:59 (unassisted, single-segmented) The highlights of this run are probably the boss fights. I got the quick kill on Kraid, 3-round Phantoon, a excellent Draygon fight with alot of damage from the shinespark technique, and a pretty good Ridley fight. On top of that I managed to perform alot of difficult speed tricks as well (although there are also some fails). This is probably my best performance so far, and I don't see a way to majorly improve this run anymore with my skill. Enjoy! PS: This run is recorded on Snes9x v1.51. Luckily the movies stay in sync very well as long as you don't use savestates, making it the emulator of choice for me when doing realtime speedruns.

Ok, after finishing a couple of 100% runs in the last weeks, I got a feeling that I could once again improve my, first thought unimprovable, any% 0:39 run again. And guess what, it worked out! Super Metroid - any% speedrun in 0:38 (unassisted, single-segmented) (Recorded on Snes9x v1.51) And the shocking thing is, I got a damn low 0:38 (38,23 or 38min 14sec) on top of that as well! In fact I was extremely lucky to even finish it, as I took very much risk for Ridley by skipping many refills and using shinesparks to enter his room faster, but leaving me with only 2 Tanks for the fight. Luckily I managed to survive it nevertheless, with only 15 HP left!! Although most tricks and Bosses (only Draygon could be a bit improved, I think) went really well in this attempt, I am sure I could get 0:37, because I screwed up in very unnecessary places like Ceres Ridley by accidentally taking weak damage which delayed the fight by some seconds, and Zebes Escape in which I could (and already did in other attempts) easily save 10 sec, making it up for the 14 sec left to get 0:37. However the run went so well other than this 2 screw ups, that I doubt I could pull off a similar quality again for now. It's still a new record for me, and I'm especially happy about the fact that I matched Smokeys old SS time. Enjoy!
