That's a real shame, I really wanted to see this as well...

I've done most of the movie with the new rom, but I have had barely any time to work on things since I started college. Here is the new movie. It stops at Final Zone. My times are: GHZ1: 0:19 GHZ2: 0:13 GHZ3: 0:30 MZ1: 0:15 MZ2: 0:14 MZ3: 0:28 SYZ1: 0:21 SYZ2: 0:25 SYZ3: 0:51 LZ1: 0:25 LZ2: 0:42 LZ3: 0:58 SLZ1: 0:19 SLZ2: 0:15 SLZ3: 0:34 SBZ1: 0:22 SBZ2: 0:31 SBZ3: 0:15 The scroll glitch doesn't work with this version (not even the one in GHZ2 even though it was in the original cart), so I have to take the traditional routes in this movie. In GHZ3, despite my best efforts, just couldn't make the height to be able to meet Robotnik in the air. Also, I hope xebra can forgive me for stealing his moves at the end of GHZ1 :)

Nice work. So, what ever happened to the original Sonic 1 run? If you don't mind me asking.

I still want to make a normal Sonic 1 movie when I find the time, but initially I just wasn't enjoying the making of it unlike making this one with Knuckles (due to the addition of spindash).

You know everyone would LOVE you to make a Sonic 1 movie. If you ever get it going again, I think you can expect our full support and help with the process. *peptalkpeptalk*

To answer a couple of questions in this thread, I present to you the website of a portugese hacker called Esrael: http://www.projectnemesis.ibforums.com/esrael/

I wonder if there is also a hack that puts just the spin-dash in Sonic 1...
It's there, yep. He doesn't roll up when he does it, and it doesn't seem to rev up the more you press it. But it works. It's great, but just slower and not quite as cool as in the sequels (but then again, neither is Sonic ;P )

S2 Long Version is a hack of Sonic 2 that includes Wood Zone, Dust Hill Zone, and some other zones that I've forgotten... but I wouldn't recommend doing a speedrun of it; it's not yet finished.
Finished. He hasn't touched any 'Sonic 2 Delta' in over a year, but since there are monsters, music, and bosses in all of the new levels, I'd say it's good to go. I prefer Sonic 2 Delta II, it includes the new Beta levels and monsters etc, but it also has a ring counter next to the normal that keeps track of how many lone rings are left in the level. It also has Knuckles and 'Knuckles and Tails' modes, and I think it's all complete down through the final boss. Oh, but special stages are entered like in Sonic 1, big ring at the end blah blah The site also has a level editor and other tools, it's pretty cool I say. Trouble is, all of the hacks are in ips patches, no roms. Which is FINE, but you've got to find a good rom, preferrably .bin, and use something like IPSWin, etc...I can provide some prepatched ones, if that's alright on this forum. And whatever other interesting related stuff I've found. I've got some Sonic 2 Ultima with new levels but I don't think it's complete...

FYI, Sonic 2 Long Version is different to Sonic 2 Delta.

Oh. They sounded the same from the description. Well, this is similar, then.

Bump for completed Rev 01 movie, since the rom that wasn't linked to at the other board is the new version and the current Rev 01 movie doesn't finish the game.

Holy crap this is awesome! I wonder if there is also a hack that puts just the spin-dash in Sonic 1... Speaking of Sonic 1, I wonder how the run of that game was going, by Xebra, I believe. The first three levels were done and it was looking incredible. But I digress. Time to play Sonic 1 with Knuckles (and more importantly, spin dash!!!)
There is actually a hack that has spin dash in Sonic 1. But it hasn't got the spin dash animation (when not rolling), Sonic is just crouching and makes the sound of spin dash. But it works:)

If I decide to work on this again, I'll just restart it since almost all the levels can be improved (because of mistakes and new strategies found by JXQ). Labyrinth 3 can be done much faster now that I can skip Robotnik. Also, I think I'll just do the Marble Zones normally since it's boring for him to just fly over everything. However, if there's not much interest in a Knuckles version of Sonic 1, I don't think it's worth it.

I think this is a very impressive run you have up so far, I wondered why you hit that spike ball midway through the run. I'd vote Yes for it if it was submitted, it might have a small chance of getting published if it is extremely polished. but I wonder that since the site tends to be very picky regarding hacks, if you should instead try a Knuckles in Sonic 2 run, since that game is more likely to be accepted by virtue of being an offical Sega game. Just a thought.

Well, I'll go ahead and say that there is interest from my direction! If nothing else, it would be a neat comparison to say "Knuckles + spin dash is x:xx faster than Sonic without". This especially applies since you want to take the traditional paths in Marble Zone. Also Xebra mentioned that I didn't find the optimal path in a few levels of my run, so you may want to ask him for those possible improvements. Of course, with Knuckles and spin dash, these improvements may already be obsoleted.

Why is this not in the Hacks/Demos division???????? (it's good enough to be)

Because the REV01 movie isn't finished yet. (Although, I suppose that the REV00 movie could be submitted; after all, people have made TAS of games using earlier revisions, provided they were faster or had more glitches to exploit.) Just to note, Sonic Jam's version of Sonic 1 had the spin dash, although I doubt this helps in your quest of finding a rom with it in place.

I really want to see this run finished. Just because Sonic 1 is an awesome game and Knuckles is an awesome echidna. And since TAS's are awesome, this means an S1K TAS would be triple awesome! Mmm...triple awesome...

I agree that I would very much like to see this run finished, and it seems a perfect candidate for the Hacked Games/Concept Demos section. And Ouzo's run in particular was shaping up very well. Hopefully someone will make a run of this, as when I tried, I found it incredibly frustrating.

Nice job, friend. Are you going to use LZ3 zip + level wrap shown in one of the recent videos from S3Kglitches?

What he meant is that you don’t have to ask the permission of the glitch discoverer in order to abuse it.
