Not to get in the middle of this, but I think most of the decision making is usually, and should be, left up to the person who is making the run. However, he/she is entitled to asking players who have more experience than him/her on the game and consult with WR players like many people in this community have done (me included). Naturally, for the more serious and competitive gamers, anger often arises at the false claims of superiority in that person's gameplay. Proving and disproving a strategy is useless if it doesn't get used or if it doesn't work. And I should remind you all that arguing isn't going to get you anywhere. I myself have tried to aim for a goal that sounds, literally, impossible. I took that impossible-sounding goal and tried it, showing that it's not possible on a console, unless there was some secret glitch that wasn't told. It even beat my emulator run, after I had consulted with two WR players that told me his run probably wasn't possible, and if I couldn't beat it, he couldn't have gotten it. My advice to Wouter and those that discredit AKA is this: If it's wrong, prove it wrong. If it could be right, let it be wrong until proven right. If AKA is a liar, so? He's not the one making the run, and his advice to Rising Tempest isn't going to make Tempest use (or shall I say waste?) countless hours on trying to get 5 damage boosts and shave off a few seconds. So just relax, all of you. As for Rising Tempest, I should remind you that the advice of others is purely up to you to use. If you feel it's not possible and you don't want to try, don't do it. If you want to see if it's possible, or want to use it to benefit your run, then by all means try. But don't let others (as Wouter, AKA, and a few others have) change your view on what to do, or how to do this run anymore than you want it to. After all, you're doing the run, not them. So good luck to the rest of the run, as I'm sure it'll be great. =]

For what it's worth, I proved his explanation of how he got the time incomplete at best. It could be right, but then AKA would have to open all up and tell us everything. I'm not saying he's a liar nor do I care. I wouldn't become any better from it. We weren't pushing the runner (Jack) to use anything discussed. Actually the reasons it went how it did are 1) someone claims amazing time that needed explanation 2) I like to discuss

so, how about the silo Rising Tempest? How is that going?
Computer problems and a power outage yesterday have stopped me from being able to work on it. But, with those out of the way it should be done soon... I was messing around with the level a bit on console while my computer was le suck (and some others, but that's besides the point), and I have a general idea of where to fire the KF7 and for how long to get guards to open the doors. As it doesn't seem most of the doors will be completely open by the time I get to them, there will be lots of warping like on facility. Very minimal lookdown on this stage (maybe I might use it at the end, depends).

Crazy, you had a power outage too? Where you live, maybe its close to where it hit us.

A million problems later, the Silo is finished. Time for this one is 1:18, 13 seconds faster than the current WR. This is more due to the chaotic nature of the stage than due to good playing on my part. Despite waiting through the cinemas at the advice of some other players, I still had to wait a second at the second fuel room. Skipping the cinemas though, I was waiting close to five seconds here... In my second run I will try cutting the cinema at different times and see if this can positively affect the position of the patrolling guard that opens the second fuel room for me. If I can stop the wait here, 1:16 should be possible (this was a low decimal 1:18). Hopefully the next update wont take as long as this one did.

That Silo was by far the most impressive run yet.

Hey. My name is Ryan White, and I'm the current holder of the non-TAS silo WR. I just thought I would share some knowledge of this level. About the cinemas. The thing I know, is that the reason we watch the cinema is to get the door to the first big room open. If you ever watch the guard who opens this door, he walks down the hall, into that room, walks around, and then leaves. They way the level is currently done, we catch him opening the door on his way out. The other alternative, would be to catch him opening the door on his way into that room. This would be done by cutting that cinema earlier. This is likely the only point at which the cinema could be cut for a successful run, but then again, what do I know? :p Anyways, nice job on that 1:18 and good luck if you do go for lower.

Why do you want it on there? You can see it in the m64.

You're talking about "Rising Tempest Surface 1 00A 1.50.avi" ? It does show the final time, but for only 1 frame. That's 1/60th of a second..

nope.. the last frame I encounter, even by going by step in media player classic, is the completion screen, which doesn't show the time.

I get an error: " Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'H264' (unknown) VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. " yeah, I typed that all out :p

Don't download those mega codec packs... eww. Install FFDShow, if you want it to be the default h264 decoder, make sure the checkbox is turned on while installing. You can change it later by going to start->programs->ffdshow->video decoder configuration and setting H.264 to disabled. Now, to view it in virtualdub, go to start->programs->ffdshow->vfw codec configuration and setting H.264 to libavcodec.
