I don't like cinema mode. I think it's pretty useless since it doesn't add "more" on the side of the screens.

Nahoc, I'd check the video again if I were you. The field of view is definitely broadened. The amount of screen real estate is smaller, yes, but that doesn't mean you can't see more. Perhaps the encoder could crop the black borders out of the video during levels after cinema is chosen...

^^Yeah Cinema does add alot. Previously it was difficult to see exactly where Bond was headed but now that's obvious.
Very interesting on this... obviously slowdown is not as bad (and thus lookdown not as effective) on the emulator.
I think we will see more clearly exactly what effect lookdown has when i get to surface. But it's very possible that it doesn't matter as much on emulator(i hope so xD)

Yeah, the next levels will look better/larger. I didn't cut borders for Dam because there's a gradual aspect ratio change in the middle of the level, so it might look strange if the screen suddenly enlarges. Might be hard to edit so that it looks nice.

I was going to agree with Nahoc until you pointed out it shows more of the surroundings. I didn't like the squished HUD stuff though, lol.

Interestingly, you can get an even wider field of view by combining Cinema screen mode with 16:9 ratio...

Yup, but i'm pretty sure that just looks wierd? A little progress report on Facility, i just did the first door warp(after activating console) and i'm 58(!) frames ahead of old run. Lol and that's before i've TAS'd even 15 seconds of the level. I think 47 would be a stretch but low 48 is definately doable. There might be another good effect from Cinema, my doorwarps have been absolutely insane lately(the warp on facility is crazy, and so was last warp on Dam) and i have a theory that it might be because of the lowered framerate cinema causes. But i could be wrong of course. If i'm right though, this might be a pretty major timesaver in the long run.

Yeah, but it could be made normal by stretching it in a video editor. An interesting discovery, I have to check to see how much more you can see, but it's better to just use cinema for a serious TAS. The better warp might explain a little your improvement on Dam. It sounds logical that the lower framerate can make more insane warps.

Wow awesome comparison. With stretching cinema+16:9 it looks pretty great. Curious, is it possible to encode the run by using a constant widescreen resolution and show the beginning non-cinema part with black border to the left and right, and then stretch the cinema parts to the widescreen format? Dunno how menu's and pauses would work but it's definately worth looking into possibilities which does not include black borders on the bottom/top parts.

Wyster, with basic video editing software, what you're describing is definitely possible. I, for one, would love to see the run in cinema + 16:9 as the field of view is surprisingly wide. Are you interested in trying Dam with these settings or would that kill your motivation? I'm not sure how much effort goes into each level...

It's not as easy as you make it sound. I see problems with the fact that the ROM itself adds the black borders top and bottom. It would probably require multiple captures in order to not lose in quality.

Yup the pausing sequence is a big problem. And honestly i have no idea how to do that, i'm simply throwing ideas out there since the current best option is to watch a HD encode where only 50% of the pixels are utilized :p But of course we already knew that when i started so it'll have to do if it's the only way.

Before I forget, nfq, your cinema + 16:9 image is not quite stretched proportionally to the others (it should be slightly wider). With regard to video editing. Honestly, it's not a giant effort... I may do an example (it helps that I have Adobe Premiere).

Yeah, that was a pretty sloppy comparison. I didn't even use antialiasing. I think it should be 168 pixels wider.

That would be cool. Remember to use the clock/pause once.

To answer this, i'm not redoing Dam and Facility(way too much work lol). I still haven't seen an encode example of the stretching in action which is required to use 16:9. Also i feel cinema already provides alot bigger FOV than last run and while increasing it further would be cool, it's hardly worth the effort.

The old facility run was a 49.7. Shaving off .8 off that was surely gonna be a challenge... But who would've thought i'd be able to shave off another full second on top of that?? Sorry about the weird end screen though, avidemux sucks for editing videos, I would need Adobe Premiere. the-elite is down so I'll post it tomorrow or so, or you can post it too of course.

I've done a few test encodes with that, it works great, but you need like two screens to be able to see it properly :P without black borders on top and bottom. I'll do a DLTK run or something with that aspect ratio if I have time.

I got lucky this time around(Just like when i got 33) and got a probably rare boost before 3rd drone. That 3rd drone determines the lowest possible time i can get which this time is around 1950. My end time here was 1961 so my ending is pretty close to max. Tested surface a bit and it seems extremely laggy...

Cool, it's amazing you can still improve these times. You still can't make a vid btw? If you want, I can make one when I have time, but perhaps someone else like Weatherton or Aktan wants to try to make a better one? I can't encode in 1080p either for some reason.

I'm a bit suprised myself actually. Must've been sloppy work last time around(At least first half of the run, i bet archives - egypt are equal to the times i do now)

Nope, Mupen hangs everytime i start a capture. Edit: I realized it might be very helpful to watch the RNG in GE to better understand how to manipulate events. But i can't figure out any way of actually finding that address(if it's only one of course...), my only attempts ended up with over 1000 possible addresses which obviously is way too many. Does anyone here have experience with RNG's and have any idea how to find it?
