just keep going through that bonus room over and over and you'll get 40 points each time.
I got the idea of 40 points from something you said. ;)
Right as the timer ran out his score went up from 4371 to 4421.
I really should wait for the "Movie End" message instead of stopping the run at 0:00. I suppose getting the 'K' banana bunch is more important and not so much the winky room as I had considered earlier.
I just got 4436
I just noticed this edit. Did you get the K banana this time around?

I got the idea of 40 points from something you said. ;) Yeah, I know, I used to think it was 40 until Penev pointed out to me that it was 50 so then I tried it out and it really was 50. Btw, I just got 4468, so it looks like Penev has some catching up to do. I still didn't get the banana bunch under the K.

If anyone wants to be able to play all the levels, enter this code that I just found to give yourself infinite time: 7E056F01 Edit: Btw, if you think you're too good for this game and you want a challenge, try entering this code to get the timer to count down by tens: 7E056F00 Edit: After Orangutan Gang is an ice level, but I don't remember what it's called. Edit 2: After the ice level is another ice level with crystals in the background with a blue rope at the beginning that you can get to by bouncing off a kremling. Edit 3: After that is another ice level. I'm not too familiar with the order of the levels in this game, but can someone tell me if this is about the same as the real game? Edit 4: Then comes a water level. Edit 5: After the water level the game seems to freeze.

ice level with crystals is Slipslide Ride. There are two other ice levels, Snow Barrel Blast and Ice Age Alley. The water level is probably Croctopus Chase or Clam City, unless the water is green, then it's Poison Pond. Edit: I just played it and the order is: Snow Barrel Blast, Slipslide Ride, Ice Age Alley, and Croctopus Chase. The levels and their bonuses are identical to the original. Using this code will give whoever owns this competition cartridge more value for their money by letting them play through more levels. Though I doubt they'll care since an original copy of this game is worth anywhere from $300+.

I just got 47:00!!! I got hit twice, died in Platform Perils, and having Donkey Kong at the start of Blackout Basement threw off my rhythm a little bit, but overall it was a very clean run. If I hadn't made those mistakes, 46 would have been my time! No, I wasn't recording because I was trying new strats in this run and I didn't know if they would have worked.

4615!!! Beat that Penev :P Btw, as always in no save state runs, there was a miniscule mistake in this run, so if I really worked at it I might be able to improve by another 10 points, but I think I'll let someone beat me before I try again.

I can't beat it unless I know your strategy, because I highly doubt you are sticking to the same route. I've beaten 4620 before using states. What I did was i re-entered the winky room until the clock was about 22-23 (21 being the borderline minimum) then I went to get the G (I had collected the N before the winky room for this reason, using the tyre) and then I got the last bonus in the level and finished the level... as diddy enters Orangutan Gang (0:00 on the clock) the counter goes up 200 for finishing the level. So in the final 22 seconds, I would have got 110 for the KON+G, 50 for the last bonus, about 20-30 for random bananas and kremlings and 200 for completing the level = almost 400 pts. By going straight for the winky room and ignoring the N in the same movie file, I only got mid 4500s, so it seems that finishing the level is 100pts better off (and much harder, it's easy to die).

with this new route I'm pretty sure 41 is possible; message me on AIM and I'll give you the full details.

I actually did use the same route, the only major difference was that I got the hidden 6 life balloon at the end of level one, which is worth about 200 points. Anyway, I'll try out that strategy you just posted and maybe I can get over 4700 without save states. Edit: How do you skip Croctopus chase? Is there a way to skip past it on the map or did you find a warp barrel?

I just mentioned Croctopus Chase because it's like 2 minutes long and has no bonuses and it's probably the longest level in the game actually ... so if there's one level that I wish could be skipped, Croc would be it :) What colour is a 6 life balloon? I know that there's red for 1up and 10pts and green for 2up and 50pts and blue for 3up (although I haven't seen any blue balloons in this Comp Cart yet).

Thanks for the strategy, I just got 4818 without save states. It wasn't even such a great run, I think my potential with this strategy is around 4850. Edit: I just got 4837, and it was a pretty clean run so I'm gonna take a break from this for now.

WTF?? I was doing a run of DKC and I ran into a very strange glitch. I was in Temple Tempest and I entered the last bonus room, but when I got hit with the Klaptrap, Diddy froze in place. So then I got hit with Donkey Kong and the screen faded out and then I was in Jungle Hijinxs, riding Espresso. Don't get me wrong, this is a cool glitch and all, but it completely ruined a perfect run and I am very annoyed because of it!! Edit: I did another amazing run today but I died at Trick Track Trek doing the high-risk move where you roll into the mini-necky and get to the bonus barrel. This move is very easy to do on PAL, but since my snes is in NTSC, the roll stopped a little short. Now for my next run, I'm going to modify the strat a little by waiting until the platform moves to the right and then roll jump off it into the barrel without using the mini-necky. It's either that or I can play it safe and avoid doing the move all together which would cost me 8-10 seconds. Comments?

That's the glitch that I've done several times myself where Diddy freezes and Donkey continues for a few seconds (but the screen soon fades out even if Donkey is safe from the Klaptrap). I never actually exited the bonus rooms when I did that, so I don't know if I would have warped to some level. But it's possible in other levels, the place where I have done it is the end of the Torchlight Trouble level is Gorilla Glacier and I think one of the levels in Chimp Caverns. Maybe one of these warps can be used to beat the "any %" game faster than 20 minutes =D > Edit: I did another amazing run today but I died at Trick Track Trek doing the high-risk move where you roll into the mini-necky and get to the bonus barrel. In NTSC you can very barely make the barrel from the bottom Necky. Why don't you trying rolling off the top necky? Should get you much closer.

I'm only going for the top mini-necky. The only problem is that I can't see him off-screen so I have to guess at what his position is. If the roll is too short or early, I hit the bottom necky and miss the barrel; if the roll is too late, I fly into the pit. Another strat I was experimenting with is waiting until the platform moves right beside the necky so I can't miss. I just have to be careful not to jump on him accidentally while dodging his attack. I'll keep trying to see which way works best.

We'll have to see how the glitch happens in the first place and whether the warping can be controlled. I'm not sure what caused the glitch; I was playing just as I always do except that I was tapping Left as I entered the bonus room, but I doubt it's as simple as that.

you should roll about 1 diddy's height before the platform reaches its top left corner. To be safer, roll exactly when the platform is on the top left corner.

I just got 4897 without save states. The end wasn't timed perfectly so I would have had time to get a few extra bananas which would have brought me over 4900, but other than that I've just about reached my potential with my current strat. If Penev beats my score now it looks like I'll have to use the strategy that involves getting to the moving platform quickly instead of waiting for it to come down again.

In case anyone wants to do any more DKC save state runs, enter the PAR code 7E057A03, and it'll stop blinking in blackout basement. Edit: This code also works in loopy lights.

I press "9" on the emulator to remove the transparency layer. Gets rid of the light problems.

The advantage of using the code is that in each of those two levels, the level will look the same as it would look while the level is normally light, so maybe you'll like the look of the light better. Anyway, would you like me to try to find any other codes in DKC? You can find all sorts of crazy codes using Snes9x's search for cheats option.

find a code that reveals the game's timer so we can see whether using start-select in bonuses is worth it.

find a code that reveals the game's timer so we can see whether using start-select in bonuses is worth it. I think I'd have some trouble finding a code that does that, but I'll see if I can come up with anything that has a similar effect or could be used for the same purpose. Edit: What I might be able to do is find out where the game stores the information about whether or not the timer is running. Would that be useful to you? Edit 2: I also might be able to find out where the game stores the information about what the timer is currently at. Edit 3: I can't figure out how to tell if the timer is running, so I'll see if I can find out where the game stores the information about what the timer is currently at.
