Post subject: now with WIP encode

Link to video I just started uploading, and after that it'll be processing for a while, so I expect it to be up in about 4-5 hours from now. edit: finished uploading... now processing. edit: it's up. unfortunately it doesn't seem to be in original/1080p, that's what I was going for. edit: looks like Youtube did process the video in 1080p/original after all!

I know this is still a long ways off, but I was wondering if you were planning on trying the big sequence break where you get a flying Chocobo at the first opportunity and fly to the Forgotten Continent before you get an airship. I feel like if you luck manipulated Chocobo Hot 'n' Cold perfectly, it might be faster.

This sequence breaks only works on the early version of the game afaik and doesn't work in the version I use (the common one), I already checked. I don't know what are the rules of TASvideos regarding using specific version to allow a sequence break, and even if it was allowed, I've no idea where to find this particular iso.

And I like hearing the music clearly, as opposed to just the background (regardless of being emulated correctly or not.) I could go on and on. I look forward to you completing the run, Lil_Gecko. In that case, has anybody checked if the WIP will sync on a non-GH disk? I haven't checked what all was modified besides fixing the Gold Chocobo glitch but it will be interesting if one version was faster than the other on specific disks. Seeing how the Gold Chocobo glitch is performed on Disk 3, you have plenty of time to acquire one before you actually need it. Are there any rules against using disks from different sets in a run?

Rules encourage using the buggiest version of a game to exploit such glitches

Yeah, if you want to use the glitch you're welcome to. It's not required, of course. I'm pretty certain the run won't sync under a different version. Even an extremely minor difference in what comes out of the random number generators will cause a desync. If anyone wants, I'll still check but I'd need to know what the game's ID is (current one is SLUS-01251). edit: are these the only versions? http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/197338-final-fantasy-ix/data

Hmm. SLUS-01251 seems to be the earliest version of the american release, so I don't really understand. Or is it possible that there were earlier copy with the same product ID in which this bug works ? Are we even sure this works on american version ?

I seem to recall having multiple version of a game using the same SLUS number, but my memory could be faulty

SLUS may not be enough to tell - I think you'd need an MD5 of the disc. There was some website that was archiving the MD5s of every PSX, PS2, Saturn, etc, disc, but I can't seem to find it again.

No, it's not... I don't think the definition of "perfect" was ever agreed upon; it was too arbitrary. I think, if anything, a 100% run would be done in its place, if ever anything like that were to happen.

A 100% run of this game will NEVER be done - it is too arbitrary, since there is no actual measure of percent completion, and it would be insanely long to watch and TAS. No one would bother. There are numerous examples of this, but every time 100% is brought up in a game that doesn't actually track completion, people argue for 10 pages, and then no one ends up doing it. Lets not bother with this game.

I would assume getting at least one of every item that is miss-able, since nearly every town you visit and can find/buy items from get destroyed (along with said items) in some manner, and beating the optional boss (who you need to get to within a certain amount of time). I think the number of towns that get destroyed set some kind of record.

Getting every missable item would include, amongst other things:
  • Become the king of the jump rope
  • Complete all the Chocobo stuff and defeating Ozma
  • Deliver all mognet letters and do the mognet central sidequests
  • Catch 99 Frogs
  • Race Hippaul to level 80
  • Become a Rank S treasure hunter
  • Get the Excalibur II
I'm pretty sure the last goal is incompatible with the previous ones even under TAS conditions (where you cannot skip FMVs), so don't bother. There is no way to get everything in one playthrough, thus there's no real 100% run. That shouldn't stop anyone from creating a more comprehensive run in the future, but as DarkKobold advised there's no point in discussing the requirements until someone actually starts working on such a run.

^This Excellent answer, in this particular case. About the only thing I really want to see is a TAS that gets Exaclibur II while still watching the FMVs. That'd be a really awesome video to watch.
