bkDJ, when you jump out of the water and quickly hit B, you make a jump noise and get a quick boost forward. Is this quicker than normal surface swimming or jump-flapping?
When? After the final honeycomb? surface swimming is slow as hell and should be avoided. jump flapping is preferred (but don't fall from too high, which I did coming off the platform or you take too long to resurface). You can't really see it because of the camera angle, but I roll as soon as I'm on land, and then jump, and then do a mini flap.

In my opinion, in Banjo-Kazooie, 100% should be all notes, jiggies, honeycomb pieces, and cheato books. Why the cheato books? Because they give access to more stuff (cheat codes).
So if we're not getting the last 40 Mumbo tokens, why are we getting the last 18 notes? They don't unlock anything besides the records of having them.

Unless you activate them for extra eggs and feathers! That could be good!

Those are collectibles kept track of on the subscreen, in every level. in BK, it's just a matter of speaking with a book in 3 different places.
Regardless, the game still keeps track of them.

no you can't use cheat in a speedrun!!

in ocarina of time the game keeps track of boulders destroyed and chests opened, and... lots of other things...!! but i don't think they should be dun in a 100% run cuz they're not fun!

Sorry, confusing wording. What I meant was: When one swims on the surface, one can jump and quickly hit B and receive a forward boost. Is doing so faster than swimming underwater or jump-flapping?

Oh noes! We won't be adding an extra 20 min to the run by watching Banjo running into areas that the camera can't go so we can hear the Ekombokum sound! Someone call the lawl enforcement! It's Sami's run. If you're going to miss the footage of those extra 40 tokens being collected then make the run yourself. This is getting ridiculous.

Yeah, it's ridiculous that people are doing kinda-sorta-100%s rather than real-100%s.

eh.. there's no 'real 100%' really.. and it doesn't matter either, because the way the 100% is defined will be said in the submission. 100% is just the name given to it so you don't have to say it all out everytime. in 'real 100%' you could include stupid stuff like doing every move combination, perform every possible glitch, having been in every single pixel the game has to offer, etc, because otherwise, it wouldn't be 100%. ugh.

Oh yeah, I guess it would be silly to have to activate all of the Bottles conversations in Spiral Mountain.

you could also add in "dies in every area and in every possible way" "kills every type of enemy" "uses every platform" ect... a TRUE 100% run would go over maybe 10-20 hours and people would commit suicide while watching it.

But project64 actually looks smoother. Trust me, you can see the difference between 30fps and 60fps. I even ran them side by side to make sure. mupen looks really jerky like that.
True, it looks like the game goes around 20 FPS or lower, but in project64 it looks like it goes 30 FPS like it should be. No way in hell it goes 60 FPS though, only very few games like F-zero X goes 60 FPS.

I haven't ran it in 1964, but most of the games run at ~60 fps, however the chances of someone hacking 1964 and adding re-recording are slim.

I fail to see how 100% can mean anything less than collecting 100% of what the game keeps track of. If I remember correctly (and I don't need to remember since I have proof) the game DOES keep track of the Eggs and the Ice Key in the sub-menu. http://www.rare-extreme.com/images/eggs8.jpg Anyway, if you ask me, 100% should be just that. You do 100% of the game. Since this game does have a counter for the mumbo tokens in the sub-menu it should be at it's max (or above max if we can skip any of the transformations and still get everything) and not 0. A normal player wouldn't consider missing 1 of anything a 100% file. Anything that can be collected should be collected. On the subject of cheats; they shouldn't be done IF the game resets them after powering off the system. Even then, only the cheats it does reset upon a hard reset should be avoided. Here are the cheats that let you get the eggs and the ice key. ICE KEY: CHEAT NOW YOU CAN SEE A NICE ICE KEY WHICH YOU CAN HAVE FOR FREE PINK EGG: CHEAT OUT OF THE SEA IT RISES TO REVEAL MORE SECRET PRIZES GREEN EGG: CHEAT AMIDST THE HAUNTED GLOOM A SECRET IN THE BATHROOM LIGHTBLUE EGG: CHEAT DONT YOU GO AND TELL HER ABOUT THE SECRET IN HER CELLAR BLUE EGG: CHEAT A DESERT DOOR OPENS WIDE ANCIENT SECRETS WAIT INSIDE YELLOW EGG: CHEAT NOW BANJO WILL BE ABLE TO SEE IT ON NABNUTS TABLE RED EGG: CHEAT THIS SECRET YOULL BE GRABBIN IN THE CAPTAINS CABIN

So Sami should get all gold feathers, red feathers, eggs, and health in every level?

Personally I would collect them only under one condition. Do they respawn? If they do not respawn then they should be collected. If they respawn when you leave the level or reset the system then they can be avoided since you would be unable to prove you have collected them. Otherwise, get them or do not call your run a 100% run. This site seems to host technical demos, minimalist, 100% and fastest. Fastest being a main part of every video here. Sami should make a run that falls into one of those two (minimalist or 100%) and strive to be as fast as possible. He shouldn't, however, claim 100% if he missed something that the game has went out of its way to keep track of. In my opinion the only grey area is the cheats. Since he would have to list "uses cheats" and some people might say "eww" for that. Still, I should make this clear, I'm not saying that his video SHOULD grab everything and anything. I'm just saying he shouldn't try to claim he has done a 100% run when people who do 100% runs of games would disagree. I, having done a 100% run (not aming for fastest time... just casually), for a LOT of games have very strict guidelines for what should and shouldn't be counted. THis can be boiled down to one very simple rule. "If the player can change something and the game can never change it back (even after a hard reset) then the player should change it." Otherwise it's not 100%.

I still think that 100% is not definable for this game. Go for a best ending run, but get all the notes, cheatos, and honeycomb pieces. Nothing else in the game will trigger a unique Bottles/Grunty/Mumbo dialog. (except Mumbo randomly changing you into a washing machine). Collecting too much kill routes, takes too long, and is NOT integral to the game. If I had to define 100%, that would be it.

Here's a trick, with explanation: There's a glitch on certain slopes. When you're "on" them, you slide down but keep whatever animation you had previously. To check if a slope is glitchable, beak bust it; If you slide instead of bounce, it's glitchable. Now the trick: 1)Find a glitchable slope that extends underwater 2)Crouch-slide on that slope. 3)While on the slope, fire an egg. You will fire the egg underwater and keep sliding! Known places where you can do this: The pool around Spiral Mountain, the deep pools in Treasure Trove cove. EDIT: Sami: have you tried changing the camera angle so that it's directly facing the wall? Rinning directly into the wall for a couple of frames before jumping? Using nitsuja's input plugin? I have the feeling you're doing something completely wrong, but I'm not sure exactly what.
