Just get what's needed. Skip whatever 50 is most out of the way, just make sure you don't skip the dimensional bomb. That goes for every dimensional bomb level.

So my question is this: Should I get all of the remaining items to get my score even higher, or should I just get the minimum amount needed?
You should definitely get the minimal score necessary for a 5, I don't see any point in getting more. The goal of the run is to clear world 6. For most stages the score for a 5 is all permanent objects collected/destroyed. (Adok bombs are an extra 50 points, any enemies that suicide are also extra points.) I'd also like to see your progress before you go much further. You can PM it to me if you don't want to release it publicly.

Hey Kirkq, I don't mean to be a bother, but is there anyway you could encode your World 3 progress? I'm just about there in my speed run (current segment is Snake Route and Baruda with Hades Crater and Magma Lake) and I want to know what you've done. Problem is Mupen crashes everytime I try to play a movie, not to mention it runs at about 10fps. I think I came up with some pretty good strategies for the majority of World 3, but TASing there's a very good chance you've done better.

Oh, and I figured out the Storm Valley trick. I saw the idea of it pretty quickly, it just took me a while to get it right. It's not that hard though, but that level will most likely start a segment. Great find, btw.

Progress I've made up until now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo5Wl2srOYA I can talk theory on the other stages, but I doubt I'll be TASing them until a month or two from now.

Thanks a bunch, that Magma Dam shortcut will definitely be in my run. Edit: Actually, I was attempting to see if I could pull this off, and I was too close to the wall to throw a bomb, but I hit the lava and bounced over anyway. I didn't even need the bomb jump.

I noticed a couple things about this game: Like many games of its time, the music selection was excellent. Bomberman looks remarkably swishy.

I made a tiny bit of progress on the Nitros fight tonight. Easiest way to deal with Nitros's towers in real time: - Hold straight up at the beginning, throw two bombs as fast as possible while still holding up. -The third tower will drift off to the right, throw a bomb just out in front of it. -Assuming this hits you'll obviously want to follow it with a throw at Nitros. If you haven't figured it out by now, the easiest way to fight normal Nitros seems to be standing about two hexes away from him (in particular on a gray square), laying a bomb, and getting him to run on top of it/near it. Hopefully I'll make some substantial progress this week. (Best time should be 8270.)

Yeah I've had Nitros figured out from your World 1 battle, and gotten 8220s on both fights. I have this fight coming up soon, and I've tested it out. Since he takes one less hit, 8450 is the maximum score, correct? If I can get the towers the rest of the fight is easy.

Well, I just found an interesting new trick. When your jumping from a land onto another part of land that's close to a ledge, lay your bomb down right before you fall down the ledge and soon, you will fall even faster than before! I guess it does pay to do a 100% run. Speaking of which, I'm about half way through Sky Room. I'll try finishing it this week and send a WIP when I can.

Whoa! You're actually working on a 100% TAS of this game? I think I started this thread about two years ago. xD I just haven't bothered checking back cause I thought it was dead. Glad to see I was wrong. :3 Edit: Wow, I started this thread almost FIVE years ago. Guess it pays to wait. xD

Captain Forehead, is there anyway you can get that WIP on Youtube? I'd love to help if I can, but my computer doesn't handle Mupen well at all. It crashes everytime I try to play a video.

I remember there's a special build of mupen64 that allows the recording of AVIs

Well, just because of that small fact, I now know how to post an AVI...but let me finish Sky Room first. I'm almost done, I just picked up the card.

Last time I checked, every build has AVI recording...

For some reason, I'm having trouble uploading an AVI, so I'll just send the m64. file here. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1543656457/BOMBERMAN%20HERO%20%28USA%29.m64 I know I got a little more than what I needed, but if it's necessary, I'll go back and redo what's necessary. If anyone wants to upload an encode for me, then be my guest, but ask me first.

Oh my god! I have to admit, I was in a pretty foul mood, but after seeing this, my foul mood vanished. It's better than I imagined a TAS of this game would be. And people were saying a 100% TAS would be boring. Hell, I stayed entertained throughout the whole WIP. Keep it up!

Seeing as though everyone is satisfied with what the run looks like, (yay for that! :D) I'm going to continue my progress. But also seeing that no one wants to encode Bomber Base, I'm going to have to be somebody's apprentice to teach me to upload AVI's to youtube. That way neskamikaze won't have to suffer.

I hate to nag, but 4050/4000 is a bit too obviously suboptimal. I would recommend restarting from before the skewers and skipping that blue crystal right before the heart. It will look much better, and the platform at the top of the tower will probably be in a better position. Other than that, your work is much higher quality than previously. Make sure to pay attention to points you could be scoring while waiting. (Secret room was a bit obvious that you should be killing things on the bottom of the level while riding around the top. You did better in Sky Room.) Good quality overall, just pay attention to level routing a bit more.
