Comment 19 by project member godisgovernment, Today 2012-06-23 (7 hours ago) has anyone ever confirmed this is actually related to disc accesses? ie. some of the complainers should try a build after the aram-dma-fixes branch was merged and see if that fixes it. it could be other things as well..
Can someone please do this? I am so eager to know if the aram-dma-fixes branch actually fixes the loading times or partially does.

What exactly is the average loading time of a GC game anyway? Anyway to emulate the loading times to be around that? Also, does this mean future runs using this version of dolphin will be longer than runs not using this?

Dolphin normally uses ~3 MBps, i set it to ~1 for that exe. Yes, load times will be longer. But this was just to test with, longer loading times are the entire point of it. Don't tas with that. I have no idea what is typical for an actual gc. I believe it is around 3 MBps, at least for sustained sequential reads.

It sounds like the main issue is that Dolphin doesn't emulate seek times during loading. Is it possible to recognize when data is non-sequential? If so, it seems like it should be straightforward to insert a pseudo-random delay between 0 and 60 / (RPM) seconds whenever a new chunk of data has to be sought. Or is the format of the ISO nothing like the format of the data on a physical disk?

On current master, doors still open instantly for me. So, neither aram-dma-fixes nor the two Rogue Squadron 3 commits did anything, as far as I can tell. (I'm running the game off a flash drive, and that's the slowest storage medium I have - my / is an SSD.)
That was a quote from a user named pauldacheez. Sigh... So frustrated! How difficult can it be to determine and fix the issue? :(

I would imagine it works with the build i posted before, but no one seems to care enough to test it. Though it's also not a real fix.

I don't understand. Paul tested with the aram-dma-fixes, which is why I initially alerted everyone should give a new try checking the loading periods. What is different with your build?

It's the latest master build with 1050 kBps disk read speed. Did it really matter what exact revision it was? It loads slower, that's all that matters.

Has anybody tried to access a SW inside the Frigate ventilation shafts? During the escape bit, there's plenty of vents (EG where parasite swarms come out of), which you should be able to get into. It's certainly possible in the Crashed Frigate, which is basically the same structure. The only difference would be that you don't have the charge boost yet. Hopefully though the advanced bomb jump techniques can compensate, which if successful would certainly be interesting.

Well that SW was going to be a surprise but Mr spoil everything over here ruined <_< yeah its possible to use the Ventilation SW to wallcrawl past the "extendo-glove room", and it might even be faster to just stay in a SW and wallcrawl past the ridley cutscene and the losing items cutscene then door warp in the second last room and roll to the frigate escape cutscene.

The game only crashes when you load the room after the depressurization door if you haven't started the escape And no we haven't because we still haven't started working on the actually TAS <_________<

Just hold on a bit longer mate. Who knows, maybe someone might fix the loading periods and you probably would feel a bit more comfortable knowing the game is nearly 100% perfectly emulated.

Super Mario Sunshine is having the same problem with loading times. There's an option that will make the loading times take 0.4 second when checked, but about 7 seconds when unchecked. I'm not sure if it's the same problem for this game, but I agree that this issue needs to be addressed.

In this game it loads faster then on system with it unchecked and areas load the frame you hit the loading trigger with it checked, which is really bad for Metroid Prime 2 because some tricks actually require abusing the "slow" loading time of this game on system.

No one is ever going to fix loading times, so if anyone is affected by this, you may wish to play around with these numbers. Don't expect anything too accurate, given the horribly simple implementation, but it shouldn't be too difficult to make something work better than it does now.

Because all or nothing is a terrible philosophy. Aren't there things in this game that depend on the load times? That seems like a good reason to try to fix it a little.
