1. "Wasting time" to turn it off doesn't matter, since time is already being wasted to turn the Hint System off. If you completely care about wasting no time at all then the Hint System should be left on. 2. What does not blocking part of the screen have to do with the controls?

I believe what Espyo is implying is that the control system and the helmet HUD have no bearing on the quality of the TAS (ie, they will end up just as fast). It would be different with human players where controls DO matter.

And the exact same can be said about the Hint System.

Actually, turning off the hint system saves more time then it wastes because of that weird ass door in Ruined Fountain ;) also turning the hint system off only takes 18 frames, turning off the helmet takes an extra 43, making over a second of the TAS just us messing around in the menu. I honestly would leave the hint system on if it didn't piss everyone off so much, the helmet isn't that big a deal to most people.

Does turning off the hints saves enough time to make the time lost to take off the helmet worth it? If not, just turn the hints off and go for it.

Turning off the helmet seems like a clear, easy speed/entertainment tradeoff. Spending a second to improve the entire run when that run's going to be most of an hour long is an easy decision. Just do it.

I always thought seeing through Samus' visor/helmet was a choice made to further iterate that you are Samus and seeing the world of Talon IV though her eyes.

HUD/Visor talk has made this thread the most alive it's been in some time. Just go with your gut, because some people are gonna complain no matter what.

Personally I don't really care that much either way or another. But if turning the helmet off costs less than a second (for a hour long movie), you might as well do it so that a little bit more of the screen is used.

1. There's no loads, you don't have to wait. 2. If aiming for real-time: You should "pause" by finishing a scan, not using the map. 3. If aiming for in-game time: It makes no difference.

Wait, the HUD is annoying to people? This is news to me. I think I'd actually prefer to see the HUD the entire time.

I strongly disagree with any option change that would make it hard to see the HP/missile count/danger meter, etc. I'm OK with any option change that would reduce the amount of border around the screen. I think people may be confusing the two here…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb6vRoyLFTY I guess you could call this a WIP. It's a comparison of our newest TAS, our old TAS, mrspeedrun's TAS, and DDR's TAS. As you can see, our new one is a head by approximately 2 months. I just uploaded it to show that we're working on this again and are serious about making major progress over the next couple months. AND, as you can see, the hint system has been turned off, and the helmet has been kept on.

Yeah 2 months, we found a few time savers... In all seriousness it's 182 frames ahead of our old TAS. And nice job on the 2 videos you uploaded btw, the plasma wallcrawl video is really helpful because we're planning to use that route in our TAS, so we can use that video for comparison. Also the flamethrower thing... weird find

Wow, considering how short the video is, being over three seconds faster already is huge. Nice work!

FUCKING AWESOME MAN! That wip contained a lot of crazy stuff. I am very impressed. Everything looked very well planned and highly optimized. Edit: The HD encode looked absolutely beautiful in full screen :)

This is the game I've waited so long to see TASed and that WIP does not disappoint. Keep up the good work.

Probably should post this, I've found what I'm pretty sure is the game's RNG value at address 45AAA4. As for how it actually works (like how it uses that to determine stuff), I have no idea. If someone could figure that out that'd be great. >_>

I not sure when "basically dead" and "taking a break" became synonymous <_<. We're still working on this TAS, just not for a few more weeks, at most.
