I don't think this TAS is completely optimal in a lot of cases, and my standards prior to making this were to always grind frames everywhere. (Aside from my old Spongebob LOTAD to show off the route). I had to give that up optimization level in order to actually have any chance of ever finishing Prime. Thinking about it now, it's probably still on par if not more optimal than the average "first TAS of a game". I spent a lot of time routing individual sections and timing every strat I could come up with, I just didn't redo rooms over and over again in hopes of saving another frame. That being said I'd say it's "good enough" to submit, but I really don't believe any measure can be taken to make it legitimately sync from start to finish. Often times I couldn't even play back parts of the movie without making a trail of savestates every few rooms and loading them as I reached the section to "fix" the RNG inconsistencies. If someone really wants to try and make it sync, then be my guest, here's the dtm. https://www.dropbox.com/s/w6xpk8mf3fzfxou/lastinput.dtm?dl=0

What version is the DTM for? EDIT: Can I get your SRAM.raw file, or a savestate from frame 1 during playback of your TAS?

4.0-4222, I'll upload the savestate and edit it into this post in a bit, it'll take a while because all my upload speed is going towards the video of the TAS right now and my internet is slow in general. Edit: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c3dv8fmp66g4kok/Playback.rar?dl=0

That was one the best TASes I've seen, congrats! I hope someone can sync it!

It happened, the TAS I was waiting to see since I started getting into speedruns! There were so many crazy things throughout the run, I can't even decide what was my favorite. Already my TAS highlight this year (and that says something, since the Wind Waker TAS got released almost at the same time). It would be great if the TAS can be synced and the author decides to submit, it would have a great chance to become TAS of the year.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

If this isn't officially submitted you should get the medal for sleeper hit of 2016. This TAS is legendary.

So after my attempts to sync it, I get desynced somewhere around 22k frames. What are the normal desync points for you?

I remember the RNG on the drop going towards X-Ray was a big one. I would sometimes get a Missile instead of a PB and then the movie would desync later because of that, that's about 13 and a half minutes in. Another big one was the area before Morph Ball, around 6:15. I didn't run into many desyncs after that because I stopped caring to try and play the movie back from the start

Link to video This requires you to manually unload Phazon Mining Tunnel which I didn't show in the video, so I don't think this method could be faster than the any% strat without an earlier SW (MQA maybe), but I'd imagine it still saves a lot of time in low%.

It's not a one pool fight. In the first pool she did a lot of attack cancels to get Prime to lay the second pool faster and because she didn't give prime a chance to move really, the next pool was really close to the first.
[16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero

Oh lol.. It looked like a one pool fight :) Nevertheless, must be faster than the current submission, no?

It was 16 seconds faster than the youtube video, my submitted dtm uses this fight though.

wow, i havent kept up with this thread so i have to ask: what was going on with the idling before teleporting into the wave beam room?

Basically you go oob first to make the game think that you are in Chapel Tunnel while going inbounds in Chozo Ice Temple (you can see this well by the map on the top right zooming into Chapel Tunnel). By making the game think you are in Chapel Tunnel the game will have both connecting rooms loaded, so Chozo Ice Temple and Chapel of the Elders (the room with wave beam). Another important aspect is that the game doesn't calculate any repositioning from collision of rooms the game doesn't think you are in. So since you are in Chozo Ice Temple with the game thinking you are in Chapel Tunnel you can morph against a wall and get stuck where usually the game repositions you away from the wall on that kind of situation. If you get stuck on a certain position and angle then you can rotate with the morphball without friction and exponentially increase your rotational speed until you overflow the value and the game sets your rotational speed to NaN (this is when the morphball gets rid of the hull for whatever reason). We call this glitch infinite speed and we don't know exactly how it works, but if you boost with infinite speed you hit almost everything that is currently loaded. So by boosting there you also get both items: the artifact of Sun in Chozo Ice Temple and Wave Beam in Chapel of the Elders at the same time. The wave beam cutscene warps you into Chapel of the Elders, which is why you are immediately there. The 2nd Samus you see in the cutscene appears because you also hit the trigger to start the Shegoth fight. Please correct me if I'm wrong on anything.

Going through Magmoor with: No Space Jump, no Varia Suit, no Energy Tanks. Using infinite speed to load/transition rooms, kill puffers, break boxes, collect energy drops, and activate the elevator cutscene at the end of the video. This is made possible because of a handful of changes on Wii, namely "easy mode" and Spring Ball. Spring Ball speeds up Morph Ball movement a ton, and also allows you to activate IS without Boost/Spider. Other important changes on the Wii version include faster loading and Puffers in Triclops Pit dropping ultra energy's instead of small energy drops. (Which is really just a change they made after the 0-00 GC release, but whatever, it's a difference between Wii and 0-00 still).

Hey so would someone mind actually fixing Dolphin so this game syncs? I would really appreciate not losing my movies to random desyncs once they're longer than ~20 seconds Link to video
