You seem to jump off of everything, never falling off. Is this faster? Also in the level with bats, can you shoot them before they start flying? That might be faster than turning around to fire behind you. As to the idea of running out of bullets, you can loose bullets even when there are 3 in the air, the game deducts one bullet from you for each time you press the fire button, regardless of whether it actually fires. If you were to try to run out, it wouldnt take long. It is a lot slower with the bashing, it stops your horizontal movement.

Good job on those levels, Tailz! I'm starting to like this movie more and more. If anyone wants to download the savestate, don't clicko n the link, mark the whole name (http://impact.megarpg.net/Amagon (U).fc0) and copypaste it to the address-window. Maybe you should name the savestate to Amagon_(U).fc0 so that the URL starts working, I don't think this forum accepts " " in URL:s... And I can answer your question, Rusty. When he walks to the far edge of a height, he gets slightly pushed forward a few pixels, you can actually see this if you look carefully. This is abused quite a lot, and because it's faster than jumping off stuff earlier, that's the way it's done.

Randil is right. When I walk off the edge of something I can get a slight boost which helps save time. Would that be consider a programming error? I don't think it would be because I'm not manipulating the game or anything, just pressing the button at the right frame. As for the link to the savestate, I think the problem lies with the "( )" around the U. I tried using the underscore (_) like you suggested Randil, but it didn't like that either. I also tried using a hyphen and taking the space out altogether. Neither one of those worked either. If I renamed the savestate and took out the (U), would it still work? If it will then I'll gladly change it to make it easier on everyone.

replace the space with %20. http://impact.megarpg.net/Amagon%20(U).fc0 (should work with copy pasting)

Yes, I'm sure it would. Try to rename it to just "Amagon1.fc0" or something like that, and upload it again. SXL's URL seems to work too, if you sopypaste it and put it in the addresswindow. It does not work by clicking on the link.

Ok, I'll rename the savestate to make it work. EDIT: Ok, the link works now.

WOW, that was tough. The next 2 levels are done, only 2 more to go! Get it here The savestate is here In 5-1 I realized I could use Frame Advance to kill the stronger enemies quicker. This allows for more entertainment IMHO. Enjoy!

As usual, very good job Tailz. I hope you complete the remaining two levels soon so we can start voting YES on this! ;) And for those who don't know how to load the savestate, press "File", then press "Load State From" and choose the savestate "Amagon1.fc0". And you don't have to put .fc0 after the filename when naming it for the download, FCEU automatically detects it as a savestate.

I agree. Although this may seem boring run if you haven't played the game. But I'm sure this is published:)

Everything is going fine. 6-1 is really tough and I'm debating on which way I should do it. I get the Mega Key near the beginning of the level and I don't know if I should transform right away or wait until the boss. Usually I would wait until I get to the boss but there are a lot of tough 16-hit guys in this level. It would probably be more entertaining to kill them with Amagon but it could also be faster to dodge them with Megagon. So its the same battle of speed vs entertainment. It won't take me long to do it once I decide how to do it.

Ok, I'm going for entertainment on this one. Sorry I couldn't get it done before Christmas, but I will try to have it up before the year is out. I'm experiencing some computer problems at the moment so I can't work on it right now. They should be resolved tomorrow and I can resume my work. Just wanted to let you know I'm not dead. Thanks to all of you for your support!

How are the computer problems turning out, Tailz? Have you gotten any further on the run yet? Just wanted to let you know that I'm still eager to see this done. I hope you can get it done tomorrow! :)

My computer is still in the shop. Apparently the problem was more serious than I thought. I hope to get it back within a few days so I can finish this run.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaack! Actually I've been back for a while now but this is the first post I've made since I got my comp back. I got my comp back on the 9th of this month and I had a lot of reloading to do. Unfortunately my hard drive had to be wiped clean and although I was told everything was backed up, not everything was. I lost a lot of stuff, all my roms, emulators and some other files. Thankfully the folder I keep my movie making emus and files managed to survive. Anyway, my comp is back to normal. On to business. I didn't want to come back without bringing you guys something so here. Sorry it took so long, enjoy!

Hey there. As you know, I've been testing movement in this game some now, and I thought I might sum up what I've found out: Avoid Jumping: Whenever you jump, you stop for 1 frame before jumping. So each jump looses 1 frame compared to running normally. So avoid jumping unless it's absolutely necessary. Always walk down an edge: The best way to use the edgeboost trick is to simply walk down the edge, not jumping. Remember that jumping stops you for 1 frame. Try your hardest never to slow down: Pretty obvious, but should be noted. For example, on level 2, you back a little bit to avoid getting hit by enemies. I know that in this particular place, it's avoidable by killing all the enemies that are blocking your path there earlier. Generally, if a monster is blocking your path and thus slowing you down, try your hardest to kill it as soon as possible so it doesn't block your path... It's often possible to avoid waiting periods. Also, in situations where you have to turn around to kill an enemy, use frame advance for these situations. This way you can make sure you didn't waste any frames there. I suggest you use frame advance on bosses too, I found it easier to frame-perfect the battles that way... Anyway, I'm sure you knew most of this already, but maybe some of this helped.

I knew most of that stuff already but thanks for the info. At the moment I'm redoing the first stage trying to do it as fast (or faster) as you did in your demonstration. For some reason I can't do it as fast as you did. I did some things differently like killing enemies sooner or without jumping and I always tried to keep my jumps low so I would get back to the ground sooner, but your run was still faster than mine. I'm not sure but is flying through the air faster than walking? That's the only thing I can think of that would make your run faster. You flew higher and killed more enemies whereas I flew lower and killed fewer enemies. I'm going to do some more testing with jumping. I know you lose a frame when you jump but if flying is faster than walking, it might be worth the frame loss if it means going faster.

While flying, you move exactly as fast as when you're walking. But since you loose one frame with every jump, walking is always faster than jumping. It doesn't matter whether you make small or big jumps, you don't loose any frames when landing. The only difference in speeds between jumping and walking is that one frame you loose before performing each jump. So to put things short, never jump unless you absolutely have to. If my run is still faster than your's, make sure that: *You are as fast as I was on the startmenu. *You do the edgeboost trick on all places that I do them. Remember to walk down the edge, not jump. *Don't do any more jumps than I did. *Always hold down right ;) If you're still having trouble getting it as fast, link to your movie and I'll take a look at it, and see if I can find out what can be changed... Good luck! :)

Ok, I just ran through 1-1 again. You are still ahead of me by 11 frames. You finish on frame 4338 and I finish on frame 4349. I can't figure out why I can't do it as fast as you did. I used the edgeboost on every possible edge, jumped as little as possible, I even jumped less than you did! You jumped 23 times and I jumped 22. I just don't understand it. We both hit start on the same frame as well, frame 23. Here's my movie. Maybe you can figure it out. The only thing I can think of is flight distance. You fly longer than I do and that's the only difference I spot.

You should focus on getting 4128 on the frame Randil got 4338; it's possible.

Tailz: Here are the mistakes I saw in your movie: - missed an edge boost at 2545 - jumped unnecessarily at 2715 - powered up at 3790 (this one's a huge time-waster) - I must be missing something else... does this game have any (subtle) lag?

I haven't watched your movie yet, I intend to do so later on today, but I'll answer some questions anyway... I'm pretty sure there is no lag on the first level, at least I haven't experienced any... You should look up what nitsuja said, perhaps that's just what wastes some time... Oh, and I believe you could save time by turning into Megagon sooner, beause then you could run straight through some enemies instead of having to jump and shoot them, wasting 1 frame... Anyway, I'll take a look at your movie later on, and comment on it then.

I've done 1-1 again just now myself, you don't even need Megagon: 4140 frames (still improvable if Baxter can do it in 4128 ...) There's also my previous attempt at an improved Amagon run that got up to 2-2 about 11 seconds faster than Tailz's run, if it can help. The game does have minor lag at times too (at least in 2-2 near the start), but I'm not sure how well it can be avoided ... if it happens from having too many enemies + bullets at once on the screen, shooting them one by one as soon as possible should work.

I wasn't sure if you needed him or not. I figured it would be quicker to kill the boss with him but the time it takes to power up might not be worth it. I'm going to continue working with 1-1 until I get it as fast as possible, trying new things and making sure everything is right. Thanks everyone for your input so far, it's a big help.
