Hey, everybody, I just wanted to let you know that I'm making a Low Level FAQ over at GameFAQs. If you could post some possible helpful boss strategies over there for me I'd be grateful. A FAQ of this nature doesn't get made by just one person, it takes a community effort. Heck, my FF1&2 FAQ got over 1000 posts before I finally made it... so far, in two days, only 2 people have expressed any interest at all. And only just a tiny bit at that. Keep the stuff at the GameFAQs boards though, we need not clutter up this topic. EDIT: Removed broken link

My final fantasy IV advance save state editor: http://tinyurl.com/yxnub3 Right now, you can edit any attribute for any character and also edit your party, revert back to dark cecil or young rydia. Not sure if it will come in handy but i've been working on it for the last couple of days, I plan to add a item inventory modifier and also a magic editor for each character. It might help for testing purposes for this run. I'll post when i've made more progress. Requires the .NET 2.0 Framework: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en

It would be more useful if you could give explanation of memory adresses.

Most of the information i've used for the character portion was here: http://tinyurl.com/y4ma6p I havn't dove deep enough into the actual game yet to determine random battles, etc...

FF4 GBA has a bug where if you do a certain sequence of menu operations with 4 or fewer characters the game will crash, and possibly corrupt your save files. Like sketching Gau, this might be exploitable in a big way if manipulated well. Melissa

Please elaborate. I have not heard of this bug.

Okay, I dug up my description in an old email. I haven't tried this out, but I know it works - this is translated from a Japanese page Squeenix had about it. 1. You must have 1-4 party members, because the bug involves empty character slots. 2. Go to the menu screen and select Item. Use a Potion or similar item on one of your characters. 3. Go back to the menu screen and select Order. Move the character on which you used the item to one of the blank slots. 4. Go back to the item screen. The game will crash. WARNING: THIS CAN ERASE SAVE FILES. EDIT: http://media.putfile.com/FF4-Menu-Glitch

Well, it doesn't look useful if the game only crashes.

I don't personally see this bug being exploited, unless someone took the time to figure out what it does. If a file was corrupted in just the right way (meaning a series of recorded attempts made), then I could see it... but doubtful. The double-attack bug, however, is easily usable in many situations. I can see it being used a lot. There are quite a few fights where you have to cast Reflect (or the like), though most aren't in the main game. I can see someone taking a side-trip for Bahamut, though getting past the Behemoths would be pretty tough. I actually got the bug to work once where Tellah used Osmose and Firaga right next to each other. It was fun. :) Whatever happens, good luck with the run. I expect great things out of you, Phil, and a game of this quality deserves perfection. :^D EDIT: Yang + Haste = wtfdeadmonsters. Yang is FAST. Haste gives him 4 attacks or so to every 1 from Cecil.

Do I need to explain why I am planning for this game? Got some idea's.. might make a test run through the game. Anyone interested? More demand I get the quicker I will work. [Edit by Bisqwit: Merged into existing thread.]

Why would you do this version of Final Fantasy IV and the one for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System? Remakes are generally discouraged unless they're very different from the original.
Why, oh, why do I even <i>try</i> to understand my own species?

Ahh. Heres why I would choose GBA remake. 1. Battle backgrounds are better designed. 2. You can "run" in town saving time. 3. It is the "hard" version of the game.

I myself rather enjoy the GBA Remake. And I don't think you actually get Stat Drops like in the SNES version. I always hated that. Have Cecil at a high Level, only to find out he can't do squat because his stats dropped like crazy. I think they fixed that in this version. ^^ Come to think of it, I wanna play it again. ^.^

There already is a FF4A topic, you know =P I've been wondering if anything was happening with it, though. The lag in battles was pretty annoying in this remake, though that double-attack glitch sounds pretty cool.

Do it :) FF4A is really nice and It would be nice to have a run of it. Would be nice to also see the run go throw the new dungeon.. if possible, maybe.

The first is an irrelevant point. The second, however, is a pretty good reason. The third is nice.

this game should be done because it's an improved version and with several bug fixes, so you can't skip the sealed cave for example.

One thing I've noticed while fighting Rubicante is when Rydia casts Shiva on him, he counters by casting Blizzara on himself, potentially for more damage. This could be manipulated to save some time and make the battle faster, unless there's another viable alternative you can think of. Rydia is pretty slow, so there's no guarentee. For the last battle, you should probably take the normal party for speed purposes so that you don't have to change members. Edge could do some damage by Throwing any unneeded swords, but if you want to spice it up, go ahead and take some of the other characters. Edward and the Apollo's Harp obtained from the Cave of Trials can make Dark Bahamut a bit less daunting, if you get Ragnarok. (New name for Crystal Sword) There's also a few glitches that can be useful in the game. Quicksaving, declining to load, then loading the quicksave leads to the next encounter being the rarest in the room. There's also this thing where if you activate running when an ATB bar fills up, it's guarenteed. It's a little hard to explain, though.

...So I've been trying an unassisted run of this for kicks, on the EU version because I'm told some of the lag glitches are gone. I've made some notes on what do to during the run (based on what I saw in the SDA run), though it's a bit wordy to make sure I don't go the wrong way at forks. My main concern is figuring out how to get by the Sealed Cave, which apparently has three mandatory Trap Door fights. Action's FAQ has a reader tip that says their instant death attack is reflectable, but Rosa would probably not have Reflect yet and the only source of Curtains seems to be a rare drop of Gloomwings'. Naturally it'd be cake time-wise to get them in a TAS... =P Anyway, I had three things I wanted to point out as far as the beginning goes. -On the way through Antlion Cave, there's an immediate Antarctic Wind in the second room that would give Edward something to do during the fight; I got it to do 56 damage with a few tries. (For that matter, couldn't you just go ~4 steps out of the way for the Kaipo Ether so you can do 3 more Chocobos? When's the next time you're going to need an Ether, especially if you dequip Palom's test-run Lillith Rod during the Kainazzo fight?) -Have you considered picking up any Hermes' Shoes (Haste), Hourglasses (Stop), or Bacchus' Cider (Berserk)? There's a HS in the bottom chest right before Octomamm, for instance. -This is just some neat trivia, but you get healed after Damcyan in the GBA version and not in the SNES version. I just noticed that X)

Thinking that's because, when his cloak is closed, he absorbs water and ice. Why he would do it when his cloak is open though... Unless you're talking about the four elements fight later on.

What kind of percentage are you doing for this? For instance, all maps secured, even special dungeons at the end? Or just as fast as possible.

Hi. I wanted to show this that i had made for Final Fantasy IV: Advance. It is a Lua file for GBA emulator called battle-info.lua that shows the vitality of all data from participants in a fight. Here some images. You will notice that in some cases it works without problems, but in other, delivery numbers were crazy or irrelevant. I honestly do not know why, if I find the exact values in the RAM of the game. But at least I have this and is always enabled. Does not recognize when you're in a battle. Here is the code for that you try it, if you wish. Download Any advice to improve it is accepted. Besides, I want do it like the lua sonic_hud.lua by marzojr.
