I had a boring morning so I tried to run this game, it turned out pretty good.
This game has quite a bit of randomness (enemy appearing spots). It's funny little game where is easy to get lost if you don't know the route. I had to copy lot of Vatcherns movements because of the luck manipulation. I made the difference (3 frames) in the second last area.
I used FCEU 0.98.13 nitsuja
In this movie I:
 
Aim for a fastest time
Manipulate luck
Use warps
Use death as a shortcut and take damage to save time at the same time
I'd like to thank Vatchern for making his movie, I did lot of same things he did. And because Vatchern took example from Randils movie, I thank Randil too. And I thank Morimoto for his movie.

In the zone before the last zone you start by falling down. Vatchern pressed left before he started falling, but I started to press left couple of frames after I started falling. This way I don't hit the wall so much and come down couple of pixels further than Vatchern. EDIT: AngerFist: Well there are some movies where the older movie was only 1 frame slower.

That's only SMB 1 I think. 3 frames isn't a very big improvement though..

No, that wasn't SMB 1. Since (I think) Phil and Genisto made a 1 frame faster movie than Pom, but Bisqwit rejected it, since it didn't add anything new. I think the same goes for this... there isn't really anything that's new to this. No one watching the AVI would spot the difference.

I don't see the point in publishing movies where the difference in speed is not noticable to the human eye. I think a minimum of one second is a good idea for very short games, and a lot more than that for longer movies.

Ah ok. I agree to that though, I would never see the difference. I haven't watched either of the runs but I don't think I would vote yes on this, sorry. Nice try though,

I don't think a minimum is a good idea. What if someone submitted a 1.00 second improvement, then somebody wanted to submit a 0.97 second improvement but couldn't? It could've just been a 1.97 second improvement to begin with, but now you're rejecting it because they didn't find it all together.

Im most definately voting no because: 1 - It only improves the current run by only 3 frames. 3 - It means nothing to me gaining these 3 frames as nobody in the world would detect or understand if this movie would get published. 2 - A game like SMB is a billion times more popular than this game and therefore we have made an exception and accepted runs with 1-3 frames of improvement of the current run. Edit: I also think it depends on which game we are talking about if the minimum of improvement should be one second. For instance, if someone submits a run of Mega Man 5 where it improves the current record by 1 second, it should get rejected immediately because of the length of the game. The conclusion is that shorter games like these may be ok to set the minimum for 1 second.

Well... I don't think setting a minimum amount of frames is right. If this movie was 3 frames faster, and those 3 frames where obtained by a completely different route, I would have voted yes... but this movie is basically the same, so I'm voting no.

I'd say 2:40 is a rather short game, compared to the average movie length here (which I'd guess is around 15 minutes). I haven't watched the run, so I'm not voting yet, but three frames is three frames. The fact that it's not a popular game shouldn't make this automatically rejected; it will probably just not have a high priority in the submission queue.

This isn't a famous game, and as such, nobody cares whether you complete the game in 2310 frames or 2320 frames. If it were the same author doing this, I'd accept it, but as it's a different author, doing a 3-frame improvement on a relatively unknown game on someone else's work, I am voting "no".

I don't know if he used the old movie file to make this, but if he didn't I would just give him credit on holding the record and keep the avi the same since it would be a waste of time encoding and downloading again( not that anyone would want to download again)

Don't think it can be much faster than 2:40. There's not a way you can move faster, the route is fastest, most things are done earliest frame possible etc. But I'll try to make it some frames faster when I get home.

I haven't watched this yet, but I've watched Vatchern's run, and since this is only 3 frames faster I guess it's basically the same. Where did you save those frames, by the way? I won't vote because I haven't watched it yet, but I would most positively vote no on this because it's too less of an improvement basically, pretty much what the others have said. I hope you understand this point of view. We've had discussions about this in the IRC-channel some time ago about my first submissions, and I've changed my perspectice in this matter. You could look at it from the previous author's point of view, if someone can obsolete his run with a run that is only 3 frames faster, then someone can quite easily obsolete most runs on this site by just making one single jump slightly better. But I think you're right that this game can't be done that much faster, I found that out when I did my run. This shows how good Vatchern's, and for that case Morimoto's too, run is. Anyway, I hope you can improve it even more, perhaps even a second or two! I'll wait with watching this until I hear more from your progress. Good luck, Guybrush! :)

I don't this can be improved by second, but half a second is realistic if I can improve my run by the way I think it can be improved.

Well, I tried to improve this run more, but I only got 1 frame off. If there could be some way to manipulate the last statue (blue one) to fire different way there could be more improvment.

Maybe 15 frames or more. Not really sure.
