Yeah, I'll keep that in mind, but so far I'm not aware of a situation where I was close enough to the edge that jumping off is faster than sliding. Anyhow, here is an update. I cleared Woodman's stage in this movie. See if you could spot any errors. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1551/Megaman2_Update.vbm

Do you think you'll use the leaf shield in the middle of the level on those Fan Fiends and get tons of refills the rest of the way, or just use it on AirMan?

Yeah I used the leaf shield against the Fan Fiends but all I needed was one small refill, which I happened to get after shooting the second one. So I had enough to use on all the guys on the flying platforms and beat Airman. Check it out. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1557/Megaman2_Update.vbm

Oh yeah, I forgot you could hit multiple enemies with one shield. Plus I had its energy consumption mixed up with Clash Bomb.

Just saw your WIP and it was very nice. Was jumping in Metal Man faster than sliding?

If you're talking about the conveyer belts, it's either just as fast or faster, I can't remeber though.

For most cases jumping is a little faster. Sometimes it's the same particularly at the parts where I had to make smaller jumps.

Hmm, I think I saw a couple of places near the end of ClashMan's level where you might have saved time with an extra jump, but I won't be sure unless I test them. However, why didn't you slide across the moving cloud platforms in AirMan's level? I just remembered that I gained one pixel every three frames by doing that, since Meggy falls for two frames after each slide 'cause these games handle sliding across platforms stupidly.

You know I always wondered why you were sliding across those platforms, but it never occured to me that it would be quicker. How were you able to figure that one out?

Uh, I tried it, and I found a pattern of when I could slide, and I noticed that it allowed me to scroll the next Lightning Lord onto the screen a little earlier, meaning I get my ride to the next platform a little sooner.

Alright I redid the flying platform part and gained 15 frames. Now I'm redoing Clashman's level. So far I figured out a way to save a few frames in one part by activating rush jet while still on the ladder instead of waiting until Megaman gets off. Anyway, you mentioned something about a couple of jumps I could make that might save time. Did you happen to test them out?

Ok, I improved Clashman's level, so I saved 75 frames. 15 in Airman's level thanks to Bag, and 60 in Clashman's. I mysteriously lost 16 frames when I redid Clashman's battle, so I decided to use the same imputs that I did the last time. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1593/Megaman2_Update.vbm

Okay, here's the part where you missed a jump opportunity: Try jumping off to the right and then jumping up the ladder a bit so you save some climbing time. Or did you already know about this and not do it because it messes up your timing in avoiding that next enemy somehow?

Ah I missed that one. But it turns out that I could only save 1 frame by doing that since I have to wait a little longer to start the second slide in order to avoid one of the pellets. But I'll do that since I think it looks cooler to jump.

Well I finally completed Magnet Man's level. This level was tricky because there were so many possibilities that I had to test several ways to complete it to see which way was the fastest. Originally, my plan was to not waste time and go into the menu screen until I got to the first part with the disappearing platforms. That plan soon changed when I took a lot of damage sliding through all those huge spring enemies and I couldn't manipulate a big energy from the eyeballs for the life of me. And there were a lot more I had to shoot in order to avoid dying. There was no way to jump over them. So instead of wasting time shooting them I decided to start the level over and equip the metal blade so I could destroy one of the huge spring enemies (it takes twice as many shots with the buster) in order to have enough energy to slide through all the eyeballs. My reasoning is that although I lose over 50 frames going into the menu screen prematurely, I save 15 frames from destroying a couple of the flying magnets and at least 100 frames destroying the spring enemy with the metal blade instead of the buster. Plus it's the only other way I could think of to slide through all the eyeballs. I believe the only faster way is if there were a way to manipulate a big energy. What do you all think? http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1625/Megaman2_Update.vbm

The leaf shield can take out the eyeballs in one hit...and since it goes through enemies in this game, one shield could probably clear an entire room. You'd just have to hope you won't need the leaf shield in a later level, though; weapon ammo is no longer refilled between levels after you beat the first four bosses. :/

That's one possibilility, and would definately be faster than using the buster. However it still requires me to go into the menu screen. It's better to go there at the beginning of the level and equip the metal blade in order to save 15 frames from killing a couple of the flying magnets.

Here's an update. This will be the last wip I post. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1741/Megaman2_Update.vbm I cleared Hardman's and Topman's level. Now on to Needleman's and then Wily's stage and I will be done.

Nach, I figured out how luck manipulation works in this game, so I want to try to batter it much as I can. I've been doing some experimenting with the Leaf Shield. I was able to die with it activated, and the extra bars appeared on the left side but I wasn't invincible. I also couldn't teleport up any ladders no matter where I took the damage. Could you give more detail on how they're done? In the mean time I'll be working on Seasons.

I've been doing some extensive research testing & planning out the most optimal route, and now I'm about 90% sure that starting with Metal Man is best. I figured out a few new strategies for this level. I'm much faster in my improvement. The 10% uncertainty comes from testing from a password. From there it was only optimal to get a big weapon refill from the last wheel with the clown. It would've wasted more frames manipulating it in more than one spot.

Unfortunately I don't recall how the leaf trick worked. However for the ladder teleport, if you get hit at the right frame while climbing one, you instantly teleport to the top. Not exactly sure how to force it, but I can attempt to make a video to demonstrate.

Could you post a vid? I tried every frame and he just climbs normally.
