Here are four soundless .avi segments: http://www.savefile.com/projects.php?pid=501843 I was just getting used to the VirtualDub encoder. Although it seems strange to leave out the sound, I decided to do so since the audio would double the filesize (I haven't played around long enough). I also had problems uploading to savefile.com. I tried to upload the last segment six times (five in savefile.com, one in rapidshare.de) before it worked. As for the run, if I get the Active Buster, I would only upgrade its energy, if I could. I've also been thinking of how sequence break in this game, but in terms of reaching places that are normally too high to reach, I don't think so. Mega Man can get hit in midair to send him higher, but doesn't gain enough height.

Wow, this is great. Just goes to show how much planning I didn't do. If I have some time where I do not feel like being lazy Im going to try this stuff myself. Has there been any progress since then because you have really gotten me interested. I really want to see how you do some other bosses and stuff.

Ifrit, I really liked your sda run. I'd definately be interested in seeing another attempt. I'd suggest WAY fewer segments though, because some were only 2-3 minutes long. You can definately get some great bossfight ideas from fractalfusion too. He's got the skillz to pay da billz at owning bosses. Good luck to you.

Well thanks. Don't worry, my next attempt is single segment.

Most of this is old stuff from the SDA forums, but Ifrit and I have had quite a few talks about how to rip this game apart. Here is most of what we came up with, if not all. Well. Ifrit and I had quite the brainstorming session. Unfortunately every little attempt got us close to what we wanted to achieve, but ended up in failure. -We established that the trigger for the Bruno fight is most likely the activation of the subcities, and the opening of the "Problem Door". -Thought of a possible "angle running" technique, has yet to be proven if its worth being applicable. -We glitched into Main Gate early in the game via a glitch that is on http://rockmanpm.com/index.php?page=series/dash/rockmandash1/secrets/wal ltrick -Only problem is that there is a door blocking us from entering the control room to activate the Sub Cities, which is of course deemed the "Problem Door". -Grand Grenade did nothing so far. -Our attempts with damage boosting through the Problem Door via splash mines or the Wolf in the main room failed so far as well. -I had the idea of taking the drill bit in the Main Gate and getting the Drill Arm early, which would allow us to break into Clozer Sub-Gate early, which would allow us to open the Main Gate, giving us access to the Sub Cities. That ultimately failed, because upon entering the Clozer Sub-Gate, Ifrit discovered that he could not get out except by going into the ruins again. None of the doors would open. But getting there early IS possible. We just need to get in deeper. THIS IS THE ONE THAT IS KILLING US, IF WE GET THROUGH THOSE DOORS WE WILL BE ABLE TO SEQUENCE BREAK THE HECK OUT OF THE GAME. HELP US!!!!!! -Had the possibility of skipping the Lake fight, may still be doable, but Capcom seems to be excellent at covering their asses. If only Acryte would look at this thread. Roll Eyes -Then we decided that perhaps we can leave Clozer Sub-Gate early, we could avoid the Air Battle. This was ultimately shut down too, because although Ifrit was able to escape successfully via the Drill Arm, the Main Gate was apparently not open, and glitching in would only result in us encountering the Problem Door again. So to sum it up. We are on top of quite a few sequence breaks here, and we need help from the SDA community in order to achieve them. We need to either get through the "Problem Door" and activate the Sub Cities, or get deeper into the Clozer Sub-Gate. I really want to sequence break this game. It'll be my way of getting revenge on Capcom Roll Eyes and it would also make for an AMAZING run. I tried using the grate in Downtown to skip the scene where Tron Bonne is being chased up a pole but of course you cannot do so. It said something like: "A manhole - I wonder what happened to the girl being chased by the dog?" Oh well. There must be something. Normal. I tried out skipping the Power Raiser. I think its worth getting. It gives extra boosts at the beginning. Snakes take only one shot to kill. City Hall and Feldynaught are slightly easier/faster with it as well. Hmm, I suppose. But either way we don't need the money in the chest, if we're poor, we can always check that hole in the labyrinth. So far, Ifrit and I were thinking.. -All Special Items/Weapons -All health upgrades (Except for max Canister packs) -All Buster Parts -All minigames completed, no matter how inconsequential they may be. -Town restored to full.."glory" If it got destroyed any during the pirate attacks. I'm contemplating doing it on Hard mode..segmented. I believe Ifrit is just doing a normal pure speed run for now. Hit me if I missed anything. Its not entirely redundant, you can steal the 200k from the robbery mini-event, since if I recall correctly all you get from not stealing it is..20k, I may be wrong though. (Also the Bonne's get to build their restaurant.) Thats pretty much the sole minigame/event I was referring to when I mentioned that. There are some glitches I discovered, and minor sequence breaks that would really only benefit a 100% run, but I'm well..too lazy to post them at the moment. So you'll have to wait till later. :D

Wow. I never expected that anyone would want to sequence break a game so badly. Except in various Halo speedruns. I like to glitch up games, too. I found a way to enter the ruins from Cardon Sub-Gate without Jump Springs. It seems near impossible in real-time, though: http://www.savefile.com/files/3668560 To make it to the high platform, a perfect diagonal jump off the elevator panel is required.

Now that is what I am talking about. It looks pretty ridiculous, though. So, is there any practical use to it? I have got to try this later. See how difficult it really is.

Fractalfusion, Dehacked's microstorage accepts m64, or whatever mupen's movies are called now, I think, so if you don't want to mess with savefile, you can post wips there, though, you'd still have to use it for avi's.

I tried out that jump and did it on my first try. Its actual pretty simple to pull off. Now, is there a chance it is useful?

On the order of sequence breaking, not really. But you can get the Rollerboard and 9260 zenny, then leave through Portal 2 and call Roll. You can't get the Buster Unit this way, but the Sniper Unit is exactly the same, and you can buy it from the Junk Shop for 800 zenny. Speaking of Sniper Unit, I somehow realized that at the lowest range level, it is impossible to knock out the Barcon's back cannons. Seems unfortunate, since I wanted to destroy the Barcon with max attack (Laser+Power Raiser Omega). By the way, is it possible to glitch into Main Gate without using Jet Skates? Edit: Thereisnospoon, I like DeHackEd's upload but for games that are either long or N64, I tend to distribute .zip files with both the TAS and savestates in them so I have to use savefile. The one thing that bothers me is the lack of a download count. If no one responds, I have no idea whether people watched it, or they think I'm stupid and totally ignore me.

Well, that sucks. Im guessing Portal 2 is where you entered right? Im not up to speed on the locations of the Portals.

I agree it sucks. I believe thats why I got the Buster Unit. Since the Sniper Unit is cheap that would be a good choice.

I doubt it. I tryed running into it and jumping but nothing.

Portal 2 (referenced by some maps) is the second entrance to the ruins from Cardon Forest. It's the entrance where you glitch into Main Gate. I'm using this route just to delay making the Jet Springs.

Oh, okay. That makes sense. So you are going to take down the lake with the Power Raiser and Sniper Unit, correct? How are you going to go about the Sub-Ruins there?

Yes, if by Power Raiser you mean Laser. :)

From watching your run, I'll decide whether to get the Old Hoverjets and make the Jet Skates first, or get the red refractor first. At least, I'll try out the Main Gate glitch to see how it works. Note that I have never played up to that point yet.

About that. I would think getting the Jet Skates would waste time as you need to exit the ruins, get on the boat and go back to Uptown. It seems like going through the dungeon with diagonal running would work faster.

Yeah, I figured out that you have to go all the way back to Uptown. Even if not, it still wouldn't be worth it. Assuming that I get the red refractor. Although my run has not finished the Barcon yet, I went ahead (without recording a run) and tried out the Main Gate glitch. Although I was able to get into Main Gate early, I ran into the same problems that you guys ran into as well. What I would like to know is why there is such a "hole" in the ruins that allows me to simply fall out of the map using the Jet Skates. Are there any such similar holes anywhere else? If it is possible to fall out of the map in the Main Gate area, it would be trivial to get past the problem door. I was really busy this week so I didn't get much done. I'm at the Barcon now, though.

I haven't heard about any other spots such as this but I haven't really tried, so there is still a possiblity.

Here's the run up to Barcon destroyed: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/833/Mega%20Man%2064%20%28USA%29.m64 Savestates: http://rapidshare.de/files/13683134/savestatesmm64.zip.html Remember to run it with raw data enabled (my fault). I took a different route in the Cardon Sub-Gate which prevents having to revisit the conveyor belt room. The jump to the high platform was done differently as compared to the .avi (I went back to change it). Finally, it was hard to hit the Barcon's arms; it would have been better if there was no shot tracking. :( The run is 27 minutes long, but game time is 23 minutes. This is due to (unavoidable) lag. The .avi won't come yet. The savefile file servers are full.

This sounds really great. I will try and watch this. Have to find everything though. How long do you think it will be until an .avi is available? (I know how you feel in regards to the Barcon.)

Sure, maybe it is faster that way, but walking at an angle so much makes my head hurt. Kinda reminds me of Battlefield Earth and it's overuse of Dutch angles.

Soundless AVI segments are here (starts at #5): http://www.savefile.com/projects/501843 #8 isn't here yet; savefile is having awful problems. Update: #8 is here, on rapidshare: http://rapidshare.de/files/13753150/mm64tas8.avi.html A couple things. First, I cleared out the first three segments, and second, I didn't bother with most of the lake battle so I didn't make AVI of it. If you want to see any such AVI's, just tell me. As for angle running, it's unfortunate, but it's the fastest way. Good thing Mega Man doesn't jump faster than he walks. Why can't games resort to a fair amount of physical realism? There is no free-roaming camera, either. Mega Man's movement is highly dependent on the camera angle, which makes good camera angles a rarity. Even worse, the best camera angles are the ones that cause the most lag (this game has a lot of lag).

Jump straight to the Barcon? How so?
