I am currently working on a movie for this game, I've just finished level 2 and now it's time for bed for me, it's almost 4:30 am :) I'm playing it on Hard Mode, just in case you care. I didn't get hit on level 1, and I took 1 hit on accident and 2 on purpose on level 2. PS - Is there any easy way to tell the length of your movie, or do you have to take out a stopwatch and time it yourself? Just curious.

The movie file is composed of a 64 bytes header and then 3 bytes per frame. For NTSC: Take the sive of the movie file, substract 64 bytes, divide by 3 and then by 60. It will give the lenght of the movie in seconds. For PAL : Do the same thing but divide by 50 instead of 60.

I just completed Level 3 and my time is 14 min. 33 sec. This game takes a bit longer than I thought it would. I'm playing the PAL version of the ROM, but I haven't noticed any difference yet in speed, and I've played this game quite a few times. If anyone wants to see my almost-halfway done movie, tell me and i'll email it to you ; I don't have any webspace for you to download from.

%!@#$%!@#$ I get to the last level, then decided to watch it as I do after every level, and lo and behold, it desychs right away. The movie goes into options, changes the difficulty, and then just sits there. This really makes me angry because it was 22 min 17 sec long. Anybody know a way to fix it, or should I just start over from the beginning?

always make backups of your movies... every 5 mins of game you copy the file (just drag and drop on same folder, it's fast), so you can come back if a rec screws up

Finally completed. The final time is 36:03.84. It could be improved by a minute or two maybe, but I don't see under 30 min as possible. This game has too many auto-scrolling parts to knock off that much time. But you never know, someone could come and surprise me with a sub-30 min time. If anyone wants to host this movie for download, pm me and i'll email it to you, that'll make it easier for me because then I wouldn't have to email it to everybody who wants to see it.

Hey Dan_, you mind if I host it so you don't have to email it to everyone who wants it? I saw it (after spending some time looking for the PAL rom), and it looks very good.

Alrighty. Reminder: You need the PAL version, which should show up as "Rocket Knight Adventures (E).bin" in GoodGen. http://nifboy.keenspace.com/images/rocketknight_v1-Dan_.zip

Well, I've decided to start work on version 2 of Rocket Knight Adventures. So far I've completed level 1. Version 2 completed with a final time of 34:20.10, which yields an improvement of 1:43.74. Again, if someone wants to host it, tell me and i'll send it over. You'll still need the PAL rom to watch the movie until Bisqwit or someone else decides to have Genesis .avi's on their site. There are a few possible improvements that could be made for v3, such as ending levels with less life to reduce the bonus points, and also some techniques that i've thought of that could save a little on walking around. Still, I can only see a few more seconds being shaved off, so i'd say that under 34 min would be dang close to perfect. However, i've pretty much played this game to death, so I won't be making v3 for a while to come, unless I get some strange impulse to play RKA again.

My site is open for Genesis movies as well. However they will be stored in the submission queue until the site backend reform has taken place, which will take a few weeks. Just follow the regular submission procedure as described in the FAQ.

http://dannyfowler.150m.com/gens_movies/rocketknight_v2_dan_.gmv Remember, you need the PAL rom to play the movie correctly.

I am finishing a movie of this game, i think it is a pretty cool game, and you can do a lot of crazy things, however, it is as long as an RPG, seriously, i've never seen a game with so many bosses and sub-bosses, i'm at stage 5 now and it is looking fine in my opinion.

I think it's a good run- there are some mistakes(missed/badly timed shots, etc) here and there, the most important of which is that it seems that once you start dashing on the ground, if you jump during the dash you will leap into the air and continue moving at the dash speed, like in mega man. If this was used more(and is true), the platform levels would go far, far faster. The bosses seem unique enough from one to the next to be entertaining each time, which is fortunate since as stated, there are so very many of them. The boss music is such a ripoff of sonic's. But I guess the whole theme of a fast, rodent superhero is.

Very nice run, but now then... Can you complete Rocket Knight Adventures 2? No, not the SNES one, the less-known other Genesis one...Trust me, that game is awesome too, I wanna see you do it.

Just so you all know, I am (eventually) working on an improved v3 of this run. It is currently in queue behind Dracula X, though, so once I finish that I will resume work on it.

Disregarding what I said above this post, I am currently working on version 3. All I can tell you is that it will be a big improvement.

http://www.filespace.org/dan_/rocketknight_v3_dan_.gmv Still using the (E) rom for reasons beyond my comprehension. Here's what I have so far. I'm almost done, and I abandoned it, like usual :P. I'll hopefully complete it soon. Feel free to comment on it if you find anything worth commenting on.

whee, thats really nice. What I'm sure you've tested, but that I was wondering about, is if it is faster to do like you did, get to end of level without life to make scoring faster, or is it better to end with full life, to avoid life refilling? The life refilling seemed faster than the scoring :P

When you end the level, it drains your life, giving you points for every half-heart. Then it refills it from zero. So, by ending each level with little life, I save a bit of time.

So the draining of life is slower than the refilling, guess you have tested. I love the way you jump to keep the speed on some maps, too bad that this isn't possible to use more often.
