Edit: Bisqwit, you should probably add that into the rules by saying something like "ROM requests are not allowed. (this includes the fds bios image called disksys.rom)" so people know not to ask for it.
People who request ROMs don't read the rules anyway. Others will understand. that .rom MIGHT mean a ROM.

Every day? ^_^;;; Umm... it'll be done.. by the end of July maybe? I don't have much time to work on it ^_^;;;; It's not very far along at all yet but it's a lot improved already. I still haven't tested to see if the fall-through-ceilings glitch is useful.. and I'm not using the negative-edge glitches (even though there are already times in this version where I walk through monsters on the overworld without getting an encounter because of perfect timing). If someone else wants to make a good one before then, they ca, and if my version beats it (once it's finally done) then I guess it will be worth the wait.. I'm sorry for picking such a popular game and then working so slowly! ^_^;;;;; Next time I'll stick to obscure CAPCOM titles no-one remembers...

Wow, it's longer than the Japanese version? Boco was sure it'd be quite a bit shorter.

with the fast levelling of the japanese version .. hwo should the nes version be shorter?? the other problem is, avoiding the enemies on the worldmap is harder than in the fds version.

Loading times for one. There are a lot of loading times that aren't in the US version. Secondly, you have to stab items to pick them up in the Japanese version so you can't use fairy in any of the rooms with items. Which means wasting time getting keys. I'm pretty sure the US version can be done without going out of your way for any keys.

i dont think so. you will run out of magic very soon. fairy spell needs lot of magic. of course you can get magic from every 6th enemy i think but killing 6 knights i.e. takes a lot of time as well. but its definitely true that my run can be improved a lot i cant say anything different i know this. by the way as you can see i used the german version not the US one. perhaps there are difference but i dunno.

Do you have the VMV available for download anywhere? I'm on 56k dialup for now but I'd like to see this run so I can tell you what to improve. You really should have a faster time than me. You say you can't avoid random battles? Believe me.. you can. It took almost as many rerecords to do that as it did to do the blind fighting, especially in Death Valley. Try using the directions in a different order, or staying still for a few frames, or going a tile or two out of the way, etc.. Also, if you time it perfectly you can walk through a monster if it's moving towards you and doesn't change direction. And you didn't use Fairy for every door? Well.. it's okay to pick up keys if they are on the path, but otherwise you should concentrate on levelling Magic. And remember that when you seal a statue, you get all the EXP needed to reach the next level.. it doesn't mean you have to spend it on that! Level one stat up really high, then level your other stats with the 'runoff' from that stat for quicker levelling. I really do need to see it to tell you what you can improve (or learn what I can improve from watching it).

I think you should try to level up more. In particular, I think leveling up attack will save time in the long run. It will allow you to skip some of those later keys by utilizing magic refills and not worry about wasting too much time killing enemies. I didn't play it, though, so I may be wrong. I'll assume you haven't seen Boco's run because she did several things that will save a lot of time compared to your way. 1. Get the hammer first so you can use fairy in the first palace. Sleepz determined that it is much faster that way. 2. Skip the candle and the cross. You don't need them. 3. Skip the spell spell and the magic key. Again, you don't need them. I did thought the fighting in your move was very cool. With the above changes and a little more planning with respect to keys and you'll have a great video.

Whoah, all of those things are in this run? No wonder it's so long.. if you fix the first, you shave about 3 minutes off (you get through Parapa much faster because of your higher level + Fairy spell), and another 1½-2½ minutes for the Candle and maybe 4 or 5 for the Cross (it's waaay out of the way).. the Spell spell and Magical Key don't take much time (about a minute) but aren't needed if you budget your magic right (you'd only get the key for Three-Eyed Rock, which only has two doors that you need to cross). If all that stuff is fixed you'll beat my time like I predicted a NES-version should. But if you're getting into random encounters and it's not to avoid a spiked tile.. then that's even more time you can shave off.

skipping candle and cross is right but it would be no fun to play and absolutely not entertaining to watch such a movie in my opinion. magic key was stupid thats true. i just forgot that the last castle got no doors....perhaps i make a second run but not yet it takes too much time to run through whole hyrule :-/ and i dont want to make a run without candle and cross.

I would hardly call time attacks "fun" to play anyway :-) I thought it would be less entertaining to watch without candle, too, but I think it ends up being more exciting. But I can understand if you don't want to do it without the candle.

This is directly from the rules "The language on this board is English. Posting in other languages is not allowed" So why arn't we using a ENGLISH version ROM of this game? Stop being a cop out and take the american version we can all understand (And harder game too!) Also I think a movie should have been made of this allready. Its been what, two months and version 3 of the time attack is still not done? Also you can use the Re-record trick so that every enemy drops a Experience bag. You know this right? It makes leveling up a BREEZE

Why don't you read the rest of the posts in this thread. The US version doesn't work with Famtasia.

Some people have a life, you know. If you want to see one so bad then you make it.

No, every sixth enemy will drop a P-bag. No less.

@valawhatever 1.if you want a speedrun with the english version -> do your own 2.if you want them to be done quicker -> do your own 3.if you want to read the text in the game -> play yourself 4.if you think my run is not good -> make arguments, critics are ok but tey have to be real arguments. else its no discussion. 5.i just posted my link with my zelda 2 run here cause i know that here are some people who would like to see an avi. it should be no advertising at all. so if you think that you only want to see movies with bisqwits rules why you downloaded it though you could see that it was not bisqwits site where you downloaded it from? 6.by the way check out castlevania 3 run and read the ingame text...nice english isnt it?

Wait all this talk of Zelda 2.. I didn't even realize the Link's Awakening was both for FDS and NES... I could only spend 10 mins. on this game on the NES,partly because I.. well got bored somehow with the sidescrolling parts once you encounter monsters. I didn't even get to explore this map, but now that I know it's got as large a map as ALttP, I might play though it again. As far as this thread.. can we move it to a console-themed forum?

Err.. Link's Awakening is Zelda 4, not Zelda 2, and is for DMG and GBC. EDIT: Also, both versions of Zelda 2 were rereleased on GCN and may be ported to GBA.

That's the code for the standard Game Boy. I don't know what the individual letters stand for though

Okay, so I'm finally watching the run.. here are my thoughts, in chonological order (but without timestamps, sorry). Why didn't you get the first Magic Container before going to Parapa? Actually, you should have gotten the Fairy spell and Downstab already, but.. Why did you get the Candle? Why didn't you kill an extra enemy so that the statue levels your attack to 3? Why did you talk to Error in Ruto? In Death Mountain, there's a point where you fight but don't kill a Goriya, then fight and kill a Daira that drops a P-bag. Why didn't you kill the Goriya so it would drop the P-bag instead? When you're about to get the hammer, why do you level Magic to 3? ..and maybe this is a style issue, but why do you kill all the Octoroks and other small enemies but not the Myu? Why didn't you switch to the Fairy spell when you got it, so you didn't ahve to open the menu later? Why get the red bottle in Midoro Swamp? Why leech a blue bottle from a Bot if you get the red bottle from the Gleeok statue? Why visit the King's Tomb? Why get the Child & Reflex spell before getting the Boots? Why get Upstab? (& if you get it at all, why not on the way out of town?) In Maze Island, it is always faster to walk the long way around compared to fighting. Why did you get a key, then go outside for a red bottle, instead of using Fairy again, then getting the bottle (or preferably, leaving to get the Child & Reflex)? Why do you get so many keys in the Temple on the Sea? Why do you get the Spell spell and Magical Key? Why do you get the Cross? You did not use the fastest route in the Great Temple. You are not very aggressive against Dark Link, and you miss shots. Overall, you fight better than me, though. Oh, and this critique isn't including optimisation using UP+A.

i dont think that your faster when getting the hammer and downstab and fairy before castle 1. missing the attack level ups of castle makes you slower in getting the hammer.
Why did you get the Candle?
we talked abouth that already.
Why didn't you kill an extra enemy so that the statue levels your attack to 3? Why did you talk to Error in Ruto? perhaps that was very late night once more... :-D
Why didn't you switch to the Fairy spell when you got it, so you didn't ahve to open the menu later?
dont know how it works in yuor version but i had to open the menu always before being able to use any magic, so
Why get the red bottle in Midoro Swamp?
if i had not i would have been hit by those on map monsters. tried every other way :(
Why visit the King's Tomb?
same again
Why get the Child & Reflex spell before getting the Boots?
unfortunately i mentioned this after i finished the run. if i make a new one i will improve this.
You did not use the fastest route in the Great Temple.
i did ...
You are not very aggressive against Dark Link, and you miss shots.
here it desynchedbout 20 times. i lost my motivation and made it that way. up+a is faster but it looks not very entertaining. if you would use virtuanes you could make a new one. i think the disc version it not that entertaining cause noone ever played it for real :-/ i know i made several mistakes in this run. but its a very long run and you know that the motivation is not that high after a while of playing. so please understand my faults ;o)
