The only banners I hate are flash ones. Because google ads are html, I don't care.

I support this, since you never know what Bisq can do with some extra change. Upgraded server, faster connection, more... We have a small google-ad banner at Acmlm's Board as well (to pay for the server costs).. bottom of every page and integrates into every scheme (as best it can, using the various HTML colors). The typical revenue from something like that ad is shown here, and... well, it's more than we expected, to say the least.

I voted meh on this one. Ads don't bother me either way so it's fine if he wants to put google ads in the site; it is his site after all. I'd also like to see him get a profit out of this, he deserves every bit of it for creating this site of pure awesomeness.

I Voted Yes about Advertising. There should'nt be any shame in making money with website which is actually for maintenance. You spend your time, your Pc so you are eligible for earning money. Secondly i won't recommend Google's Advertisement Why? because they pay for Click not Impression. As every Regular visitor know that Site is getting Highter Page Visits daily, so i suggest to use a Advertiser who actually pays for CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impression)Popups/Pop Unders are always paifull so i won't recommend them, Additionally use Google search because it's popular.

Well I do like that Bisqwit is actually asking for opinions and not just going "I'M KEEPING THE ADS WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT AND THAT'S FINAL."

I'm fine with the ads if they don't put intrusive sounds in my sound speaker like they do at HIH.

Some suggestions for integration of the ads: make the grey bar (now #a0a0a0) the same color as its background (#dddddd). Make the font sans-serif, like the rest of your site (it seems to be hardcoded to Arial now?) and center it. Getting rid of the additional color green (#008000) might also help a lot.

I tried this already, but I'm not sure that I like the borderless version. As for the font, I can't change it. It comes from inside the Google iframe and I don't think I can change it.

As I usually check these boards more than the site, the ads don't bother me. I barely even notice them when I do go to the main page, since the colors blend in so well with the rest of the page.

Nice. So let's see you get ~$100 a month. Also has 1/3 the sits a day that this site has. So $100*3*12 = $3600. Bisqwit, you probably will be getting something in that neighborhood. Everyone with a popular site I know is making a nice amount off the ads and it far exceeded their expectations. If you had 2 million hits a day, you can quit your job and just live off of the ads and have that run the site and servers and everything.

my vote : I don't care. I almost never use the main site, I discover the new movies from the forums. I had a look though, and they don't disturb me. besides, I remember Bisqwit broke one (maybe two) modems because of this site. it's normal he uses the traffic to repay those. I plead for transparency : add (on the "donations" page for instance) the income statistics ; then, how that money was used (balance...). I humbly suggest that this usage remains for the cost of the site (bandwith, hardware...)., and is explicitly said. therefore, no one will ever accuse the owner to "cheat" on the visitors. anyway, it's up to the owner judgment, he may do whatever he wants with the hardware, even data, since I believe that contributions are "donated" to the site content. it's also up to those contributors to leave the community if they don't like its rules they accepted.

I voted no, and I am greatly surprised that thus far I'm the only one to do so. I'm not at all a fan of internet advertising, and even less enthusiastic about the sorts of ads that you simply cannot block, which google ads seem to fall under. I would've preferred a donation setup - I think the site is popular enough that you'll probably be able to keep it afloat on donations alone - and it's not intrusive like forced banner ads are.

You can block Google ads easily. Just disable javascript. Next easiest is to prevent executing scripts that are loaded from pagead2.googlesyndication.com.

there has been a paypal-button on the main page for ages. See here how that worked out.

Keep 'em - anything that helps out with the running costs of the site is good. :)

I think the ads as they are right now look great, by the way. It's hard to notice they're there at first sight.

Also an adblock user, I hadn't noticed. Donations is a good idea, but it seems to me that many of the regulars here are students or recent grads who probably don't have much to throw around. The google ad is a pretty easy way for everyone to contribute.

I have no idea what do you mean by "Impression", but I disagree on going to anything else than google ads. As far as I have seen, google ads are the only ones which are moderate, text-only, non-intrusive and non-annoying ads. Everything else seems to be blinking ad-banners on tops of pages. Those are annoying and distracting and I strongly oppose using them. They also affect negatively the overall look and layout of the pages.

You seriously can't compare huge blinking gif ads to the moderate text-only google ads.
and it's not intrusive like forced banner ads are.
Which banner ads? I can't see any banner ads. Well, I actually can see one. It says "Nesvideos - Tool-assisted superplay movies" and when you click it it goes to the nesvideos main page.
