OK, here's some info for anyone wanting to do this... - All characters have the same moves; their most important differences are in stats and jumpkicks. - The game rates everybody either an "A" or "B" in each of the three stats (Power, Speed, and Jump), but it's actually not quite that simple. That is, there are clear differences in Speed and Jump for everyone, and Blaze only does less damage than Axel and Adam for a few moves. Here is what a more accurate rating for each character would look like: AXEL: Power - A Speed - B Jump - C BLAZE: Power - A- Speed - A Jump - B- ADAM: Power - A Speed - C Jump - A - To further explain this (thanks to Truncated's FAQ!)...Axel and Adam do exactly the same damage with everything. Blaze deals slightly less damage for a few moves, the only significant ones being her jumpkick and rear attack. And while her jumpkick does less damage than Axel's, it has much better range and priority. So actually, I think she would be the best character for a timeattack... - Budget your use of the cop car appropriately; I imagine it could save quite a bit of time in the right areas. Remember, IT CANNOT BE USED IN THE LAST LEVEL. - Every character has an infinite combo that works on all normal enemies. Jab, then pause a bit, then jab again, then pause again, and repeat until they die. I seem to remember this also working well on a boss or two, maybe the fire-breathing fat guy? That's all I remember... -Josh

i personaly dont see anyone doing a run of this game. it is just to damn long. i remember playing this as a kid and getting RIGHT up to the final boss, and agreeing to join him. much to my horror i was warped back to the 5th level or something. i never played it after this.

Actually, a guy called SprintGod made a recording of this game today. I would link him here to this thread, but he appears to be offline right now. ^^;

There is no secret difficulty in SoR1, only SoR2. The strength differences aren't that big between the characters. Adam and Axel have the same strength for all moves, Blaze is almost the same except for a few moves. Check my Damage list on GameFAQs for more info. There are damage lists for SoR2 and 3 by me there too if you are interested. For the firebreathing fat guy, you can grab, do two knees, jump over him twice and grab again. This is more for safety than for speed, I suspect.

for any enemy, the fastest way to kill is to do 3 punches (or as many as just before the final blow, asap) and instead of doing the final blow you wait for the stunned status to go away, so u start again before they can move. just as josh said...

That's the easiest way to kill them, not the fastest. You need to mix that technique with some stronger moves to cut through them quickly. e.g. against one of the weak enemies with Axel on Hardest 6xPunch, Back-punch 6xPunch, Jump-knee ...with grabs Punch, Grab, 2xKnee, Throw 2xPunch, Grab, 2xKnee, Headbutt 3xPunch, Grab, Knee, Throw 5xPunch, Grab, Throw For stronger enemies, just add a few extra punches at the start. Another noteworthy technique is to repeatedly Jump-knee enemies to the right. This allows you to get some easy kills whilst moving across the level. [p.s. I restarted my recording today, just reached Level 3]

Truncated, much thanks for the info, didn't realize you made a FAQ for that! Will edit my first post now with some changes... -Josh

yea, you do that technique till they have enough HP left so you can finish them off with something stronger. the idea is just to make them fall at the last moment

ouch that must have been a lot of work! i like from level 5 and beyond most cause there were more enemies there. few enemies on the screen sucks... sometimes i wonder if the police car is a help on the time or not... esp. on level 1.

Don't say 'ouch' yet... Wait until I've completed a Streets of Rage 2 / Mania / Max recording, then say 'ouch' :)

I couldn't believe it, but it's possible to skip Mr.X part of the 8th round! Just look at the video (you need Gens+ for watching). [Edit by Bisqwit: No reason to create new topics when an existing one will do just fine! Merged the post into existing thread.]

Excuse me. And thanks for placing my message into corresponding topic. I will try to be more accurate in searching. There is another video: fighting VS round 5 boss. This fight is faster than SprintGod's. I made it using Gens+... I couldn't insert a savestate into GMV.

If any run gets done then it should be a 2p, I started a run many months ago, but I got clogged up in all the strategic plannings, so I've effectively abandoned doing it. I would need to almost completely start from scratch again anyway, after spotting a series of improvements and strategic errors although I do sacrifice a little time just to be a little more stylistic, here was my WIP EDIT: Chemist, could you not just upload a video instead please.

I think speed is just one of the interesting things on a beat em up game. In my opinion, you should ultimately try to be varied, funny, rhythmic and fast, but have a good judgment of what is funner on each specific section of the game (speed/entertainment). Just my opinion though :) If I were to do this movie I'd try to do similar stuff to my Altered Beast TAS, but that also doesn't represent the goals of tasvideos.

Speed is something, but if you kill enemies before they reach the screen, that's just plain boring.

I was considering doing this movie within the not too distant future, but hopefully someone gives this a shot. I agree with FODA and AKA. It should be 2P and contain considerable Speed/entertainment tradeoff. I think that entertainment should be the central goal in the run. In 2P mode there are more enemies, but the work split between two characters would make makes it relatively less than 1P. Plus with the glitches above the run would be faster anyway.

To sum up the improvements
 • Never use jump attacks or floor enemies, unless its the finishing blow
 • Never hit enemies with a 3rd fury attack when using Blaze
 • The most effective new strategy would be to use left, right punches. Quite simply when use you punch an enemy the punch tends to stay extended for a long amount of time, its possible to land several hits if you make the other character face in the oposite direction then back again.
 • More use of team attacks, I only used it once in my WIP (after that I used the bottle) . Its doesn't quite kill enemies in one hit but you can walk up to the enemy using the other player and while the other player is in the process of doing there team attack the other player can land a solitory weak hit and then the other player using the team attack can make the kill, this might prove very useful on level 5 paticuarly for Mona+Lisa.

Use GENS in the future. How exactly does that first glitch work? I can't replicate it myself playing around with it, but i'm not really getting what happens anyways. You seem to grab the pepper, and grab the 2 ladies, and the game just ends? Also, your video files are huge for the length of time shown. Use Xvid or h.264 and use a smallish bitrate (256 maybe) for showing quick examples. Try hosting with filefront, youtube, or google video.
