I have improved Genisto's TAS with 5 seconds. Not much but time is time. I guess I'm faster cause I'm using
"Get enemy stuck in the floor" glitch and "Fall through the floor" glitch. And I'm using up+down fast climbing glitch which you can save much time on.
And I'm fighting the Birdo bosses different. Sometime at the bosses you can see the eggs or the fire Birdo spits out pass through me. And on stage
1-2 picking up the enemy underneath the flying carpet which I also think I'm save time on. Try to be as precise as possible with the Jumping on the carpet.
And as always I'm trying to beat the game fast as possible.
From now on I will check out the Discussion forums more often.
And try to find one cool game in the List of ideas page that I can beat even though if the game is difficult.
Then there will not be any misunderstanding right?
Using the list of ideas is possible, but I don't know if it there were any updates recently...
If the game you are working on already has a topic, you can post your plans there. If it hasn't got one already, you are always able to create a new topic about that game. People will notice it better, and the people watching the topic will have some interest in the game. Using DeHackEd's upload site (which you appearantly did for this movie) is also a good idea. If you post your wip at a topic that is related to the same game more people will probably watch it.
(Sorry for bringing this up again, but) have you considered making a new version of your Rockin' Kats run? There are a lot of improvements that can be made. I'm getting the idea a lot of people really want to see a new (full) Rockin' Kats tas, and if you aren't making it, maybe someone else will obsolete your run in the future. I think this would be a good game to pick for your next tas.
No problem. In fact, I'm glad you asked! Yeah, I want to make a TAS of it but it is really hard to make it look absolutely perfect. And one idea is that I play a few channels maybe 3 or moore. And then someone who is interested continue to play where I quited? I was thinking a punchgun only run. I think I'm going to link at this forum to the uploading page.

What do ya say Baxter? Are you in?
I strongly disagree with this statement. Giving a run that seems to be out of place on the site grandfathered rights just because it used to fit is borderline favortism. Surprise.
Also, Tokushin's SMB3 run was "removed", meaning it was obsoleted by a run that didn't have exactly the same goals. Maybe the SMB2 full-run should obsolete the princess only run (this run actually uses the Princess in one level, anyway).
This is where the forums can help. Play one level and post the progress, then wait and hear feedback. Then, go and redo the level with added improvements, and post again to get more feedback...once a level is sufficiently "finished", move on to the next level with the same process.
This way, instead of putting your energy into many different movies, you are putting it all into one movie and it will show in the resulting quality. I also think Rockin' Kats has some sweet TAS potential.
<Swordless> Go hug a tree, you vegetarian (I bet you really are one)
You say you put effort into the movie. Other people (namely, but not limited to, me) say your efforts are sloppy. You say you're giving up and trying to run a different game.
Are you seeing the pattern here? You need to improve your current submission, not discard it. THAT is where the 'lack of effort' comes in. You have this mentality of 'good enough' that quite frankly is detrimental to producing quality TASes.
We've had movies that improve upon existing TASes by about 1/4 of a second get accepted. Why is yours being so poorly recieved? It's not because it doesn't improve upon the previous Princess run, or that a Princess-run doesn't belong on the site.
It's because yruns are NOT judged solely on the basis of whether they improves upon a specific run. In this case, it's also being compared to the other SMB2 runs on the site, and it is judged wanting.

Here Baxter! You seem to be very interested to both TAS Rockin' Kats
and watch a run. So here is your chance to download the movie file and
continue where I stopped. Then you stop the playback and I can record, etc etc...
Then at last is going to be a awesome TAS hopefully...!
I've always wanted to play a game with someone a pro!
Happy Easter by the way y'all!
You should post this in a topic in the NES games category under Rockin' Kats, if one exists. If one doesn't exist, make a new one. People who are interested in Rockin' Kats may not know where to find it if you put it in a submission for SMB2.

I'm going to tell Baxter and some other people who agree with him
why I'm not posting topics or plans. This is the secret: I don't want
anyone to steal the idea!
By the way, I must ask ya a important question: Does almost everyone
post plans about their gameplans?
Here Baxter! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1014/RockinKats.fcm

The reality is, if someone really wanted to steal an idea, then they would just wait until your movie was finished, and make their own. But around here, that's not very common, and a very very minor improvement by someone besides the original author is often rejected.
I'd say the majority do.
<Swordless> Go hug a tree, you vegetarian (I bet you really are one)
Yeah, I know I didn't to that on purpose. I didn't know how to do that back
then. But now that I do know how to post ideas in the forum I'm always
going to post things there.
Thank you JXQ for so many good advices!
First of all, I traveled through Bålsta earlier tonight (I live in Västerås). Neat.
Second of all, this (general) topic has been bugging me for some time. It surprises me that so many of you don't want this to be published. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, I just would've thought more people would vote yes. If this run and Genisto's old run were encoded and ready for publishing at the same time, which one would you guys want to appear on the site? Why?
If your reason for voting no here is because you don't want to take up the time of the encoders who have more significantly improved (compared to what's possible), or new, movies to encode, and we all know how long the ready for publishing que is etc, that's fine and reasonable. If it's because you think Genisto's version looks better, I guess that's fine and somewhat reasonable too. If it's because you like Genisto and tend to favor the old timers and their movies, that's not fine and unreasonable. If it's because you don't think the improvement is good enough (probably the case for most of you), I think it's hard to justify, encoder timesaving issues aside (which I addressed earlier).
Edit: I guess the point I want to make is this: Given the choice, why would we not choose the slightly better run over the slightly worse one? Assuming even better runs are known to be possible, that is. Also, the existence or non-existence of a princess-only category is irrelevant and a seperate issue, so don't comment on that please.
Alright I got around to actually watching this run. Fabian's right, whether or not I think the run should have it's own publishability based on categories is seperate from what I think of the run on an entertainment level.
It was fun to watch. I like the various jumps you do over and under enemies. However, there were some known improvements to be made. However, this movie was published despite having some known flaws, and was later obsoleted. The only difference here is that it is obsoleting an existing run, and what does that matter?
Yes vote.
(Can Princess double-jump?)
<Swordless> Go hug a tree, you vegetarian (I bet you really are one)
"Can Princess double-jump?" It was only a matter of time until someone
was going to ask that! I knew it all the time.
Don't double-jump for 2 reasons.
1. I think you'll save time to not do that. It looked liked the enemies,
(Which you use to make a double-jump) slow down the character. Maybe
its just me. Imagination!
2. Its fun to watch someone play the game different isn't it?
To finish da game with almost no double-jumps.
In the run, Princess did two double-jumps near the end of 4-1.
It seems that double-jumping does not slow down the character. If it were not true, the SMB2 movies would certainly not double-jump where unnecessary.
It is also nice to show as many glitches as possible. Most people would rather see a lot of double-jumps than no double-jumps.
As far as I know, nobody here wants to steal anybody else's idea. We all want to help others and have fun. Stealing other's ideas is no fun.
So it bothers us if someone is afraid that others will steal ideas, and not post plans as a result.
Almost everyone does that. Sometimes people don't post plans if there is a lack of interest, which is rather natural.
The problem with this run is that the timesaving tricks were known for quite a while now. It's one thing to have a movie lack improvements that have been discovered when the movie was almost finished and the author wants to keep consistency but it's something entirely different to not use timesavers that are known without any reason to do so (e.g. if a timesaver would distort the gameplay a lot someone might decide to not use it but that's not the case here).
