Assuming that the correct emulator is snes9x, and the correct version of that emulator is anything from 1.43 to 1.50, both linux and windows versions, yes, I have tried the correct emulator. EDIT: Nevermind, I got it working. Sound settings were causing massive desync.

I'd really appreciate an AVI of any completed runs of this game, as I can't seem to get a matching ROM and things seem to always just freeze after people get the wall jump boots... ~_~

The last WIP I saw in this topic (the one from Saturn) ended with samus getting the wall jump boots. ;) EDIT: Note the red underlined text in the following screenshot. ;)

Hm, what I mean is the game just freezes as the wall jump boots are gotten. The message just stays on the screen forever. >_>

Be sure that, if you have enough supply of items, crystal flash while mother brain's hyper beam hits Samus to break the law, pwn the drew and save some (most likely not much) time by free served Shinespark. And skip untasty 10-pack-Missiles in the escape along the way with your new infinite supply of Super Missiles, too. It sure is fun to play around with it ^^
Very interesting. I tried this out in v1.0 (from a old savestate at MB) by starting a CF just before MBs 3-Tank Beam and as Drew said nothing happened. Samus just died :-) Maybe you can make a small smv to show how exactly to do this? If this works it will definitely save a couple of seconds.

It's not like Crystal Flashing skips MBs Hyper beam. -> You have to have your energy refilled enough so that you can withstand Mother Brains Hyper beam.

Um, I used a health cheat so I didn't die from the beam. her beam cancled CF, and strips her armor. ALSO: I have made a TAS, so far I have gotten Screw attack, wave, ice, and am in brinstar heading to lost caverns. time is damn good I think

Well, this won't be as awesome as Saturns run, however it is an optimized route, and has very few major errors. you get get the smv here: http://drewseph.zophar.net/Drewseph_SMR_TAS.zip you will also need to download the LATEST SMR un-headered patch here: http://drewseph.zophar.net/SM_Redesign_v2.0_Headerless.zip I'm not sure how in synce this will work with a headered rom. For those who have played through the game once or twice, I think you'll find this run VERY fast. you can watch it and be surprised by the final time which it vastly improved over atmas early test TAS. Thanks to moozooh for helping me test out boss hp, and quick trick shortcut manuvers =) he easily saved over a minute on my final time because of it!

er... not too much. Hopefully this will be the last time i'll have to apply a redesign patch. Edit: the roms don't match. The patch you gave yields a rom whose crc is 08881c69. It looks as if you're using an older version of the headered rom. On my v2 headered rom, it desyncs after the missile set. On the patch you gave, it just desyncs at the start.

Wierd, Samus has the speed booster and I've had no desync problems, and I'm using v2.0 headered. :/

Whoops. It was actually me who was using an older version. No wonder. Edit after watching: very interesting; it might even be good enough to publish. Two questions, though: what's with the kraid fight, and why didn't you skip the zebeths?

Except that it starts from a savestate that directly (by its timing) affects the randomness, so it can't be helped. Besides, it wasn't intended for publishing since the beginning, hence the multitude of small errors that would sum up to 3—4 ingame minutes. The movie really shows the TAS potential this game has, though; the speeds in the last 2/3 of the run are stunning in contrast to the seemingly crawlspeed beginning. "Better living through boost charge preservation!" :D

I have to say if it was up to me, this run would already be up on the site. This has got to be the most entertaining Super Metroid run ever (and hence one of the most entertaining and awesome runs I've ever seen). The incredible shinesparking, screw attacking and starting a spin jump again after first shooting in the air etc. just took my breath away. If there were any small errors, they were the kind that I didn't notice. The sheer speed is awesome! I'm glad you did this, Drew. Thank you.

I've only watched the run once (yet), but here's some questions:
 • getting the red brinstar underwater 10-pack-missiles: isn't it possible to mockball in there?
 • I've been sceptical about getting the "early" power bomb when I watched atma's run, as you'll have to kill crocomire anyway, but in your run it looks just like wasted time. You'll save a bit of trouble entering crocomire's lair, but waste plenty of time on the bomb maze. Is there any reason for grabbing it except to look cool?
 • You pick up a 2-pack of missiles in maridia. You don't run below 2 missiles before mother brain. Is that (small) detour only taken for the boss fight?
 • killing dragoon looked sloppy to me.. repeatedly falling into the sand pits. That didn't waste time, just looked sloppy.
 • you're getting a 5th energy tank in maridia, being quite some detour. Is it really needed or faster?
 • you're deactivating the speed booster whenever entering lava. ok, so you're going for ingame-time, not real-time. But why is booser-less samus faster in lava?
 • I always wondered: what's the trigger for the western maridia guardian ? You'll have to be in that nearby room for an earthquake to occur and break the tube, but when will that earthquake be triggered? Anything to do with visiting lower norfair first?
 • Is it worth getting the plasma beam just for 26 hits on mother brain? I don't know the damage values and can't estimate the fighting delay. Would collecting some power bombs help on mother brain, or won't the charged PB-shots damage her?
 • since you're already next to mother brain before leaving again for the missile refill: if you break the glass or hurt her, will it be reset when you exit the room?

 • I've tried getting speed booster early with crocomire's power bombs, but the lava's too low to ibj out of in the room where one would normally need grapple.
 • From what I can tell, that's needed to survive Mother Brain.
 • Yes, Samus is faster in lava without the speed booster. I lost the quote, but when I asked on irc he told me it was a programming error that Kejardon didn't know how to fix at the time (or something like that).
 • Killing the 4 main bosses is my best guess, since I killed Ridley in a game that skipped Kraid and still that tube wouldn't break until I saw what a pathetic joke the giant is against the beam combo...

 • Nope, 5 tanks was the minimum a couple of versions ago, but on this one when he's hit with the Brain beam he's at 474/599, clearly one tank can be ignored. (He has 35 left after)

Yeah, after discussing it with Tub on irc, my next best guess is that he wanted to screw attack Mommy Brain...

>> I've tried getting speed booster early with crocomire's power bombs, but the lava's too low to ibj out of in the room where one would normally need grapple. Atma and Drewseph were getting the speed booster with 1 power bomb, before killing crocomire. Killing crocomire and getting the speed booster with 2 power bombs shouldn't be more difficult. >> Killing the 4 main bosses is my best guess, since I killed Ridley in a game that skipped Kraid and still that tube wouldn't break until I saw what a pathetic joke the giant is against the beam combo... atma didn't kill Kraid, so that isn't it. Last guess: getting another or both of the Maridia Guardians ? Drewseph, enlighten us! ;)
