Impossible is not really a very good quality hack.

I think it is one of if not the best hack of Super Metroid, no it is not good for a publication here for obvious reasons (it's just a half hack and does not offer much new for the viewer) but I think it is a great quality hack.

Is that just your subjective opinion or are you basing it on something? Because if you look at Impossible objectively and compare it to say, Redesign, it's just a lot worse in every way. It's way too difficult (even if it's meant to be played with save states) to be really enjoyable to anyone besides SM-freaks, who I'm sure only enjoy the aspect of trying to beat this game, not the playing itself. The level design is not clever or especially aesthetically pleasing and way too similar to the original game. I can't think of even one reason why this should be considered a 'good' hack like Redesign, which has a TON of new stuff, completely new and beautiful levels etc.

Coisidentaly I did not care much for Redesign. Sure I see that a lot of work have been put into it and all that I just did not enjoy playing it very much, I'm not a sucker for searching a lot for various things, the guardian fetch quest was not plesant at all and the new gravity plus gimped walljump took a lot of fun out of it. Of course this is only my subjective opinion (though I know I'm not the only one who thinks Impossible is more fun) and objectively Redesign is by far the more worked through hack and generally the hack one should aim to play. Also I'm pretty much the Super Metroid freak and love the challange Impossible offers and I like that it is similar to the original since that means you don't get lost. (no I very much don't like hours of exploring) To put it shortly, I prefer half hacks over full hacks, I prefer challenge over exploring, I prefer normal SM gravity over SM:R gravity and I prefer Impossible over Redesign.

I also like challenges over exploring, it's just annoying to get a new totally changed map in front of you when the route is in many hacks to non-linear so you might accidentally skip an item. (bad memories from GD) In half hacks it's basically the same map with a lot of stuff changed, not a whole new game where you spend hours looking for the next item or so. Also I would enjoy Redesign if it wasn't for changed physics, or at least I think so. I've heard that it's awesome.

There is no question that Redesign is superior to Impossible in the design and amount of work category. It's easly the best Super Metroid hack out there and I really hope it gets accepted on this site. And as everybody knows, the main goal of Impossible was to make a hard and challenging hack that sets a new level of difficulty for video games, and improves the SM realtime skills of those who try it, while intentionally keeping similarity to the original Super Metroid. Because of that I too think it's not worth to be accepted here. If somebody finishes a good TAS of it though, I will definitely add it into the main post of the SMI topic so that everybody can see and enjoy it. Regarding challenge vs exploring, it's always up to the players taste. I think Redesign is a hack that offers both things pretty well without getting too hard in any of them, which is why I really enjoyed playing it the first time. It was a great experience.

i don't think there is a way to objectively compare redesign to impossible, other than just saying "most people under most circumstances judge that impossible is better than redesign".

not me. I perfer Redesgin over Impossible mainly because after the begining of Redesgin, it gets much funner (even though I do hate Norfair in it, took way to long to get the items I needed there). And about your WIP Saturn, I'd rather wait till the WIP is actually done. I'd rather wait and see a whole vid of new and unexpected stuff than just 2.5 minutes of it. Also, don't rush. Like you said, it's quality over production time.
Current TAS Project: SMR 100% TAS - 12.5% of the way done with the initial route (I'm going to then release it for further improvments)

I think you meant to say the opposite.

I'm thinking about doing a 100% TAS of this hack, but I need a route, and I'm not good at making routes. I hope someone can create a route, because I wouln't be able to do a 100% TAS without it. Thanks in adavance to anyone that tries to create a good route.

You gotta be kidding. 1. Tell me the number of TASes you've started. 2. Tell me the number of TASes you've actually finished. Please?

I actually think he finished one of noobsmasher some months ago. So that means he finishes at least .5% of his projects...

I don't think Drewseph has or is working on a 100% route. I'll ask him if he is. anyways, I'm sorry that I've started all of these TASes. My new n00bsmasher was finishing (well, I hopeing to finish) one of the said TASes. Tonski: 1: Too many, 2: one. I'm droping all of my other TASes mainly because of lack of optimization. But I will finish this one if I get a route.

A 100% route for this hack is probably nothing one comes up with just like that, it took up untill ~half a year ago to find the optimal route for regular SM 100% run (and there is not even proof that it is optimal, it is just likely) and this hack is way bigger and has much more than 100 items.

I asked Drewseph if he was or is making a 100% route, and he isn't. He olny made an any% route with Saturn for his TAS (which I hope he finishes his new WIP soon). Just wanted to clairfy that. So I still need a route.

I do not agree with moozooh. I'd rather have Fano7 should finish his consolerun before starting anything else.
