My run is over at sda, so actually seeing what I'm writing about might be easier for you to do. Most of the things i was describing that you could and should do are in the vid.

I've been looking back over this game recently with an eye towards TASing it again in a few months time. In the meantime I have put together a rudimentary route for the time being. I haven't yet considered the possibility of a suicide, but I will look at it more closely over the next few months. Here is the route at the moment (feel free to comment); The numbers beside the level name is the amount of collectable silver stars I have estimated I will need to collect. Any more than 200 over the course of the game and I am forced to do a bonus round. I will aim for less on each occassion. Old Army Game (1) Take damage from Helicopter (4/5) Get health Star (5/5) Take damage from balloon (4/5) Red Alert (10) Ego Check(26) Damage falling from rope (3/5) Damage from clown (2/5) Damage from Plane (1/5) Nightmare Buzz (0) Buzz Clip (26) Revenge of the Toys (4) Checkpoints :) (5/5) Damage from Hamm's coins (4/5) Run Rex Run (20) Buzz Battle (0) Pizza Planet (22) Damage from cans at the end. Invincibility to go through boy. (3/5) Inside the claw machine (46) -- (4/5) Really Inside the Claw Machine (0) The Claw (0) Sid's Workbench (10) Damage from Fireballs (3/5) Damage from YoYos (2/5) Revenge of the Mutant Toys (0) Damage from YoYos (1/5) Roller Bob (0) Day-Toy-Na (0) Light my Fire (0) Rocket Man (0) - not that it matters Expect this to see a lot of edits, but it's something to work with for now.

comments in red I haven't yet considered the possibility of a suicide, but I will look at it more closely over the next few months. Aim for a no deaths run. Its more interesting and, even though it might be slower, I think its better suited for thsi game The numbers beside the level name is the amount of collectable silver stars I have estimated I will need to collect. Any more than 200 over the course of the game and I am forced to do a bonus round. I will aim for less on each occassion.I can almost guarantee you will need to do a bonus stage, because there are mandatory stars in really inside the claw machine (based on how fast you do it) and skipping stars in certain levels will be much slower than just quickly losing at the bonus game Old Army Game (1) Take damage from Helicopter (4/5) Get health Star (5/5) Take damage from balloon (4/5) Red Alert (10) Ego Check(26) There are 2 health stars in this level (not including one at the end). Any plans to get either of them, as i think you can collect both without slowing down. Another tip, I think jumping is faster in most cercumstances than swinging. Damage falling from rope (3/5) Damage from clown (2/5) Damage from Plane (1/5) Nightmare Buzz (0) Buzz Clip (26) Revenge of the Toys (4) Checkpoints :) (5/5) Damage from Hamm's coins (4/5) You can take damage and save more time in other levels than hamm's coins, as it barely causes you to slow down compared to some other parts Run Rex Run (20) Buzz Battle (0) Pizza Planet (22) You might want to take more damage in this level Damage from cans at the end. Invincibility to go through boy. (3/5) Inside the claw machine (46) -- (4/5) How are you planning to get through the part near the end with the exploding caps? Would you be able to take damage and just blaze through them? Also, you should make sure you don't need to take damage here slowing down for falling objects/coins/other things Really Inside the Claw Machine (0)I'm not sure if you move too fast for this, but you gain 2 health stars for going getting a good enough time. Not sure if you go fast enough if you get a life instead The Claw (0)Make sure you allow the claw to carry buzz, so it has a shorter distance to travel Sid's Workbench (10) Damage from Fireballs (3/5) Damage from YoYos (2/5)Remember you can jump over the yo-yo's and land inbetween them, at least the swinging ones. unless you are talking about when woody is on fire, which may be a good time to take damage Revenge of the Mutant Toys (0) Damage from YoYos (1/5)I'm not sure if taking damage here is optimal compared to other areas, but i don't really know Roller Bob (0) Day-Toy-Na (0) Light my Fire (0) Rocket Man (0) - not that it matters

More stars can be avoided than you may think. I looked back over my old run and the figures posted are those that I gained in that run (apart from Boss levels, where I collected many, but I feel they can almost be avoided entirely). Also, sidescrollers are a large source of stars, but I will have total control of course which means I can avoid a lot.
Stanski then wrote:

The jumping I agree on. I also need to test whether or not I can get the star beside the Helicopter optimally without taking damage.
As Stanski thought further he wrote:

Good point. That was just really me looking at it on the surface and I could probably manipulate it in my favour anyway. That health star would be best off in Pizza Planet.
Mukki's final point was justified by Stanski as he wrote:
You might want to take more damage in this level
Agreed. Where, is the next issue. Many areas are similar. I'll look for areas where I can double up the damage with the invincibility period (i.e to pass through food and people).
As Mukki ran out of ideas Stanski wrote:

The caps can be approached in a certain way to avoid them, I remember that much, whether it is optimal is worth looking back into. The falling coins could probably be manipulated to a certain extent, but not totally. I'll have to test how many I can presuade to follow my route.
Stanski wrote:

I'll look further into if the extra health would let me skip more in Sid's Workbench. If not I'l just take the life.
Stanski wrote:

Good point :)
Stanski wrote:

Yes I was referring to the last ones, however, since you have indirectly raised it, I way look into the swinging ones briefly. Perhaps a use for those two health stars.
Stanski wrote:

Neither do I really. Everything after 'The Claw' seems to get forgotten when thinking about this game. I'll look deeper into it. Whenever I get any spare moments I'll investigate these points further. Mainly I'll look into damage to save time and how/if the ending frame of Pizza Planet manipulates the coins in Inside the Claw machine. I'll update here whenever I can. Thanks for the help Stanski; a lot of very good points there :)

Points on randomness of coins in inside- They aren't random, they fall the same way each and every time. I know this for sure, as I could run through the level the exact same way each and every time with the coins falling the same way. So don't bother investigating this. I think maybe taking damage at those caps at the end of this level may be the best way to do it, unforunately I don't think you can make it through with taking just one hit though. If you could, this would be the best way to do it. It saves much more time than other areas where you are looking at taking damage. I'm pretty sure the guys walking/the way the fries fall in pizza planet is random. Not sure what they are based on, but you could conceivably manipulate it so that each person walked the correct way for whatever situation you are faced with (for example, get a faster walker when you are just about to approach cans, or a slower walker when you are on a long straight away). You should probably just take the life in "really inside the claw," depending on how close you are to the limit, but I'm pretty sure that you'll be so far ahead of it that it will be pointless. My performance in this level is not the best during the run that was posted, but hopefully you can see that turning should be avoided as much as possible without moving forwards/backwards at the same time. In "Sid's workbench," You can take damage so that you can get through other parts of the yo-yo's fast enough, that much I know from regular playing. I think you were correct in going after damage in the end of level yo-yo's, thats definately faster than taking damage at other yo-yo's. Obviously the hardest level to plan for is going to be pizza planet. I think you should spend the most time figuring out how to manipulate stuff in that level, as you can save a bundle of time if you go through the level well enough. Everything else damage wise should be straightforward, and there shouldn't be any other areas that I see for luck manipulation (besides the fireworks, you just have to obviously avoid them, but thats easy enough in regular play so I don't see it being a problem). Are you having to stop for the falling darts a long time in Sid's workbench? Hopefully you can figure out a way to get through this area better than I can, because I really wasn't sure how to get through them other than running forward then running back then forward again.

I've been really busy with my Majora's Mask TAS recently, however, I have most certainly not forgotten about this. Once I am done there I will begin making a movie of this. I'll update my route above in this thread with new ideas later.

Edit: Sorry, I accidently post the Toys Story on the Sonic 1 + 2 + 3 topic and the post of the Sonic topic is off, because I moved my post from Sonic Topic into Toys Story Topic. Well, that's my minor mistakes. Toys Story game in Genesis Games is trying to solve the puzzle and completing the stage. You goal is to play through all the level by guiding through, and avoiding the enemy and trying to complete the game. So the rom for Genesis is Toy Story (U) [!].bin When your playback for Toys Story will Desync or not? This will guide you to complete the Toys Story as fast as possible. You might ignore the star pickup that can avoid the bouns stage and focus on aiming for fastest time. By KRocketneo

Thank you for that wonderful gem of a post, I was totally lost to the game play which I could expect in Toy Story.

Something tells me KRocketneo thinks this place is a review site for games... or posts. It appears KRocketneo (I speak in third person because it's obvious he's not listening to anything anyone writes to him) thinks he's making a useful addition of information in ever topic he writes in, even though everything he says is 1) A repetition of what someone else wrote, or 2) Something so obvious that noone who has ever played the game already knows about it. Mukki: Please remember that your goal is trying to complete the game. This will guide you to complete the Toys Story as fast as possible. By Truncated

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1839119270/ToystoryU.gmv I was bored, so I TASed the first level. I did it faster by about 150 frames.

All of it came in getting rid of Sega logo? I wouldn't call it an improvement at all.

Yes, I will continue, but there is a problem, not improve 207 frames in the first area, but I improved 245 frames in the screen start (to start the game). In the first area lost 38 frames, then, try to again, and improve 10 frames of it lost . Now I'm trying to improve everything I can to finish this (if I have time, because I have many things to do)

Nitrogenesis, you have not improved at all, the only thing that would improve screen start, like me, but you lost 54 frames in the first level

Jon Burton uploaded a video on his channel asking if he should make a director's cut for Toy Story on Genesis. There might be some interesting add ons if he decides to do this. Link to video
