Okay, so I started trying to attack this game today... but... I have been pondering what would make a 'better' video. A. Perfectly completing all Andy Asteroids levels, getting every fuel pod, running the 'extra' Peter Puppy part of the level, and going to the secret level. B. Intentionally failing on Andy Asteroids and totally skipping the 'extra' parts of levels for the sake of time. Personally, I would much rather want to do A. However.. many others claim that things such as sonic special stages are boring to see in speedruns (even though you get a bad ending), plus anybody could just 'beat' my time by skipping them out, thus making my run entirely useless. So, what do you peoples prefer, speed or perfection? I know this is a speed-oriented site, but I think it would be much better to do -everything- as fast as possible, rather than only the basic necessities as fast as possible.

It's called 'Who turned out the lights?', and there's an optional entrance to it in Level 5.

Well peoples, I've thrown in the towel on this game, and figured it'd be best to leave to someone else. Seeing as I'm in a lazy mood, I'll just copy/paste my reason from IRC. :) [08:08] <CherryMay> I think I might give up on EWJ and leave it to someone more talented. When I look back at myself playing, I think things like.. "hey, at one point I got four shots on that boss instead of three.. why didn't I do that every time?".. and, of course, I would need to start again from the end of the first level anyway, to intentionally miss fuel pods in Andy Asteroids. Plus, there's a swing-hook-thingy in level 2 that I have no idea how to reach, and I'm sure it would make the run shorter. So, there we go. I do hope someone else gives it a shot though, it was one of my Genesis favourites. Gotta love the nonsensical yet refined style it has. And especially as there are a -lot- of major shortcuts and alternate routes in the levels, it would make a very interesting run.

Oh, it's okay. The SNES version is far superior anyway! ^_^

I agree bladegash. But either way I'd like to see this run. I think that probably speed is the way to go though, cause its an interesting game even without the bonus levels. There must be some cool glitches in this game, I just feel it.

Wasn't it the Genesis version that had the extra level though? Or is it the other way around?

Blah, my fault. I used to play it a lot on that. I just assumed it was in the Megadrive one too. Kinda like how I assumed things like Lorenzo's Soil in EWJ2 was on the PC version ^^;

For all intents-and-purposes... if one made a full "100% run" of Earthworm Jim, there'd be the supplementary section/video for simple time attack. I wouldn't feel discouraged simply because people made it clear they don't want it (for whatever reason)... If it's there, they might actually make a run without, but until then, imagine your run standing there pristine as its own light :) Cherry, I think you should make whatever videos you wish. After all, this is an entertainment site.

To everybody who wants to see a video of this game: What do you want? -normal difficulty level or -hardest level: in this mode the boss battles became longer and more boring.
I am a Mega Man fan that hates Megaman X8.

I thought Earthworm Jim had insane desync problems.

thats the SNES version i think. ive got a WiP up to level 4 (Down the Tubes, pt 2 aka Tube Race) i will put up IF i can get SmartFTP to install here. if not, it should be up by tonight when i get home. oh, and i went ahead and beat Psycrow in Andy's Asteroids each time.

I dont see why you wouldnt. Going into the actual fight on the moon takes way too much time.

I tried the Genesis version with test9c and it desynced on me at the first miniboss. Around a month back.

i remember someone saying it leads to the Who turned out the lights but then i saw the later post. however, in the SNES version, i remember debugging it until i got to those levels so they may be in Gens as well (never owned it for gens). EDIT: me, find a fix? nah... in just use 9c with perfect synchro. works fine for me. EDIT 2: wait, now that i think about it, i changed the BUTTON CONFIG to 3 instead of 6; i know this sometimes messes with the game (kudos to Truncated when i was doing X-men 2 and eventually got Wolverine for the first level by this). but that was just randomness... maybe it affects other things as well?

Yes it can but the rerecord doesn't work. And I think there won't be implementation for this in the near future, as far as I can see savestates don't even work properly, must be because of the CD format... but I dunno anything technical...

iirc, the sega CD came with extra RAM. Probably something to do with that.

The problem with SegaCD is that only the Megadrive state is saved on savestate. So unless yuo're lucky so the state of the SegaCD doesn't change between now and the previous savestate, the movie will desynch. And one note about Perfect Synchro: it's a SegaCD thing. It doesn't affects Genesis games at all. Desyncs with Earthworm Jim are probably caused by the sound engine. Getting it on sync would require the same magic that made Snes9x 1.43+.

hmm... the perfect synchro does seem to affect the sound at points though (sometimes a SFX is used and the next time it isnt); but im not gonna debate it since i know NOTHING about the technicalities. anyhow, it still works fine for me.

they came out at the same time i think. it was 94? anyhow, this got game of the year for GENS while DKC won over on SNES. of course, this was according to some gaming magazine from back in the day, so im not sure how useful that info is. EDIT: there was a PC version as well that had ALL the levels. what i mean is, it seems SNES got WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS but didnt get INTESTINAL DISTRESS. GENS got the exact opposite it looks like.
