I mindlessly switched Taillow with Castform even though Taillow was not the lead back-up Pokemon, and didn't notice until I reached Liza and Tate. This sets me back a whopping half an hour of TASing. Excuse me while I laugh at myself. Yes, by skip, I meant run away. Edit: Liza and Tate now done. I saved another 4.5 seconds somewhere. Edit 2: Wallace now done. Saved another 1.5 seconds.

I wonder if it would be faster to put the Pokemon you don't use in the fights against the Elite Four in the PC so they wouldn't get registered into the Hall of Fame.

I personally think it's a little too similar, as the main difference is the Battle Frontier which wouldn't get finished anyways.

I could, if only to see what it looks like. But I'm busy, and it counts for little. Relatively, it's too similar to Ruby/Sapphire, and TASes of the latter already test the patience of viewers.

The main difference is that Emerald has two more dungeons (beneath Mt. Chimney and Sky Pillar) during the main game. Not to mention a long, boring Surf out to Sky Pillar. There's a few extra cutscenes and more dialog in Sootopolis as well. So pretty much everything that's a change is a long boring event.

I picked Torchic in Pokemon Emerald and three of the Elite Four Trainers are easy as I agree with one of the other posts but what makes it harder for Blaziken is Steve being replaced with Wallace as the Champion. I really played it on an actual GBA so I brung in the other Pokemon I caught to sacrifice for reviving and healing/restoring HP of Blaziken. I've never played through the entire Ruby/Sapphire though. About doing a TAS of Ruby/Sapphire, Sapphire is easier because of Carvanha/Sharpedo and Kyogre? And in Ruby, even though Numel and Cameruptare 4X Weak to Water Type attacks, they're harder not only because of that but Groudon? Who would TAS Pokemon Emerald? Well if I were to TAS Pokemon Emerald I'd pick Torchic as I did in my Cartridge. Shall I pick up a Pikachu from the Safari Game or teach a Ralts/Sableye Thunder? Not only did I train Blaziken, but also an unevolved Ralts. I'd basically do what I did when I played Pokemon Emerald on my GBA, but use less Pokemon and go through all that work without buying too many items? I know how to take advantage of a Pokemon's Catch Rate, but not quickly while catching Deoxys.

Give it a shot. However, I already made significant progress in Sapphire. My philosophy in a Pokemon TAS is to take one strong Pokemon and one very strong attack (usually Physical-based) and smash all other Pokemon with it, using other attacks if resistant. My strategy is mainly to beat non-resistances, not to match weaknesses. Against most types, far more are non-resistant than are weak. This led to the decisions I made in the Sapphire run: - Using Machop. Machop has many strong attacks and 1.5x on paralysis (which I need for Facade). - Using Facade. - Not catching the legendary (Kyogre). For your starter, I'm not sure about Torchic. Picking Torchic means you have to pick some Water or Grass Pokemon to beat the first gym (unless you want to level up for 3 minutes just to get Ember). Mudkip is slow but of course there is Quick Claw. It also serves as a HM slave if you catch another Pokemon as a main battler. Treecko is fast but has bad moves and should only be used for the first bit of the game in order to catch a main battler.

Yes, EVs are useful, but I can't luck-manipulate for them. I can only battle for them, and I don't want to battle any more than I already do. Well, PokeRUS doubles EV rate, but I don't want to spend forever trying to get it, considering that IV+nature is far more significant, and I spent a long time to even come close to a max stat in Attack (for Machop, that is).

Here's a thought: What if someone did a run, starting from a savestate, to see how many hearts you can get in a Pokémon contest? The only rule would be that you can't use moves the pokémon can't normally learn. I don't know the best method, though using anything with harden and takedown (for combo points) double edge (for epic points at end) could work well. Use that in a toughness contest, and here's what you'd get (with perfect crowd-wooing) 2+1 for Harden, making 3 for a total of 3 12+6 for Take Down, making 18 for a total of 21. 2+6 for Harden, making 8 for a total of 29. 12+6 for Take Down, making 18 for a total of 47. 6+6 for double-edge, making 12 for a total of 59.

The best combination I can think of is any of the moves that double points in conjunction with explosion (+15 if no one else picks the same judge) If it doesn't double those points (maybe it doesn't, because they're bonus points), then self destruct does the same thing. If there are 5 turns then, you'd get 75 points, not counting making the crowd go wild.

The search function confuses me, so, quick question to those TASing this game: When does the game roll for stats and gender of the starters? Additionally, is there a wiki or something similar that documents all this RNG manipulation business for Pokémon so I don't have to bump this thread for future silly questions?
