I've tried to leave him a message but youtube is being very cranky. I really don't know what to do about such activity, but I thought I would bring it to the community's attention. At the very least I think he should have links to each individual movie he steals.

I still think it's good practice to at least cite where the video's original copy was from if you are stealing it. Youtube's comment system works about as well as myspace's entire website.

Actually he acts like he did the Castlevania Circle of the Moon TAS: "Because I got God's gift. :P Joking because it's a glitch." And all who posts comments think it was him who made it. Even if the persons nick stands in the beginning of the movie...

Check that guys profile and you'll see people typing in requests in his user coments. Some people think he makes the runs, but if the viewers on YouTube aren't smart enough to figure out who makes the videos from the short intro at beginning, he's only impressing the dumb people.

I wrote a comment at the Circle of the Moon video: "Only so you know guys, it was NOT ThiefAlucard who made this movie. He haven't made any of the movies that he has uploaded on youtube. They are all from www.tasvideos.org. And the movies are done on an emulator, using save states and slowmotion." I'm thinking about posting the same at some more places too. What do you think...?

I just had a great idea. For every video posted on YouTube, users have the ability to post a 'Video Response.' The idea had been tossed around a few months ago to make a short introductory video about TASing... I think now may be the time. EDIT: So here's my idea for the video. It needs to be interesting and entertaining, or nobody is going to watch it. So we compose a 30-60 second voice-over explaining what TAS videos are, how they're made, and the purpose for making them. Basically, a concise version of the HowAndWhy page. During this time, we show 5-10 second clips from some of the more popular videos, showing their most impressive moments; the first battle ship from Super Mario Bros. 3 comes to mind as an example. I'm not quite sure how to finish it... maybe with the tasvideos logo and the site URL.

I received this e-mail. The video in question is Genisto's Arkanoid movie, and it indeed lacks the proper labeling.

Not only does it lack proper labeling, but the site 'plastered all over it' is very not work appropriate. EDIT:

ThiefAlucard in Youtube has now wrote a comment that it wasn't him who made the video. But this is what he said about Phil's Turtle 4 video: "For the first. I used an emulator but I didnt save stats. Nobody saves stats that is boring. I played trough the game without saving once. So dont say you know everything when you didnt do the run. Or because you cant do the run." And as the rule says, he should be banned for this.

We can attempt to get individual movies removed with some success, but I can't think of a strategy to dissuade people from ripping off TASvideos overall. I like the video idea, but I question its effectiveness.

How about a watermark? Like a TASvideos.org logo or something that is ALWAYS present in some corner of the video, but like 50-75% transparent? I think this would be the only way to dissuade almost all video thiefs ... the only way to steal in the future if we used this technique would be to re-encode the movies ...

But isn't that exactly what these people have done? They must have re-encoded the movie in order to add their own watermarks, remove the introductory text, and hide or replace any other text that's displayed during the movie. (I'm talking about the Mario64 and Arkanoid ones.) [EDIT: Oh, you meant that kind of re-encoding, going back to the emulator. In that case, then no, they could in fact steal it without doing that even if there's a watermark on it.]

It would probably be a far greater hassle to try and remove a watermark that's present throughout the video then to remove the introduction and the occational text.

Maybe true, but if those movies had had watermarks, I bet they would still have been obscured or altered somehow, and meanwhile everyone that watches the real AVI has to see that continually-present watermark.

yeah really, they will always find away to remove the watemarks even if they use photoshop. I don't like the idea of watermarks cause it takes pixels away from the movie. There is always going to be someone that steals things. PLus all they would have to do is put a watermark over your watermark. Plus another thing, they could just make their own avi movie from the rom and then emulator movie file DUH!
