Hm, so the UD is faster after all. Would that also be the case for non-TAS? Otherwise, I might just have to restart the run. <____<

Not sure if it'll be faster non-TAS, there's some annoying luck manipulation there, especially for Chansey's DVs

Sorry for the late reply. p4wn3r and Mukki have been busy lately, so they don't have time to reply. But last time I checked, they were making good progress and appear to be close to done. Hopefully it will be in the workbench soon.

There's a new trick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntStTtt27L8 I doubt that it saves time compared to the current way, but I'll let you know anyway.

Was that first wild encounter, in view of a trainer, a manipulated random one, or some glitch involving holding a direction when saving? Without seeing the input, it's hard to tell from the video. (I can sort of see everything else that's going on there, though.)

Looks like a random encounter in front of the trainer, the save was just in case he had to fight the trainer and didn't need to lose/go back to pokécentre/demonstrate the possible lack of savestating

It's just a random encounter. The save is completely unnecessary.

BRILLIANT IDEA! Start with Squirtle instead of Charmander. In Viridian Forest, run into a wild Pikachu in front of a trainer (I've had this happen on console). Get owned by Pikachu. You white out and return to the last pokemon centre, thus triggering a trainer-fly glitch.
Hmm. I experimented earlier with this, fainting from poison directly in front of a trainer (result, teleported directly without triggering the glitch). I'll experiment with this as well.

This is of an unrelated note, but it would be interesting if a Red/Green "catch 'em all" run was done alongside the Red/Blue one, by combining the dokokashira door glitch with other select button glitches, such as this one. Link to video

This is why we need peer-reviewed testing... If I had double-checked, we would've known about this long ago. Alright, then! What can we catch using Trainer-Fly in Viridian Forest? Gyarados' Special number might be too high to reach, but we no longer need to worry about poison so Nidoking and Ivysaur are on the table. Nidoking looks very good because it gets the absurdly good Thrash (Normal, 90 damage, faster than almost any other move to use) at level 1.

I dont remember much, so not sure if this would be better, but rival's bulbasaur at route 22 has the stats for a gengar, which is the pokemon I would use on a yellow tas without save corruption. I do recall it had faster cry, and fast attacks with short names (Lick I assume).

Lick also has the problem of having no effect on a large number of Pokemon in the game (I think both Normal and Psychic are immune to it, which is a good chunk of mandatory fights in the game). Gengar does get Night Shade (which avoids immunity) and a pretty good movepool, though.

Hi Chamale. Nah, we don't need peer-reviewed testing. All we needed was a vbm. And we didn't do that.

is progress still being made on this? has the recent discussion, god forbid, made for a start over scenario? inquiring minds want to know!

Despite these setbacks I'm going to finish the run on the route that we have. It has already taken a year and a ton of work. Expect this in a few weeks.

I'd got to Blaine some weeks ago, but due to some mistakes with box manipulation, I have to redo him and the entire pokemon mansion, then exam period started and I haven't touched this for a long while. Mukki's completely right, we have to finish this, when Life gives us a break. Besides, I don't think that new glitch can really improve Pewter, fighting Gary takes a lot of time. Here goes it (I forgot I needed to trade Slowbro for Lickitung and switched the box with Slowbro into inactivity, losing some time, that was the only mistake, but means redo): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1091411297/POKEBLUE.vbm And sorry for completely forgetting about this thread from time to time...

What I've seen of the WIP so far looks pretty sweet. But I'm only getting slightly over halfway through the latest one (Fuschia City Pokémon Center right after evolving Rattata, around frame ) before it desyncs for me on VBA-RR 23. 22 doesn't seem to have the same issue, fortunately. Quasi-edit after having finished the watching: looks even sweeter, catching the legendaries. All I could think was "OH GOD MY CHILDHOOD." It's always suspenseful, waiting to see the next thing you grab via the trainer fly glitch.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of any memory addresses that handle the number of Pokemon caught? I'm assuming there's a series of addresses that work as flags for whether you've caught a certain species or not, possibly each byte handling more than one species.

Pokedex addresses are in the range D2F7-D31C. It's stored as two separate pokedexes: "Own" and "Seen", in that order, 19 bytes for each. Each byte has a value for eight pokemon, if the bit is 0, not registered, if 1, it's registered.

Awesome! I was having a tiny bit of trouble finding the addresses myself. Thank you! Anyway, I made the following lua script, but I was a bit disappointed when I found out that lua text can't be drawn on the SGB border, where it would fit pleasantly and be out of the way. Regardless, it's a good concept for both people watching the movie using the ROM and potentially for unofficial encodes. http://pastebin.com/cSXuVkSr It is a simple display of how many Pokemon are currently captured. Of course, placement of this number can easily be changed to suit the viewer. Personally, watching the current WIP with this running made it more enjoyable. I know that the official encodes must be lua free, but for WIPs and such, perhaps this idea can be used? =) Disclaimer about the scripting: I tried using a for loop but it didn't work so I just did it the long way. It works, so I'm happy.
