So, 22000 frames and 14400 re-records later... and I've finally got progress through Mt. Moon. This should prove to be the most difficult segment of the run, and I'm glad to finally be through it. I got rather lucky manipulating the Spearow and Jigglypuff; I was able to get them both without dropping a frame. It's interesting to notice how much cash I have when I buy the Magikarp... also notice how the man moves afterwards (subtle glitch). From this point, I'll be catching a Clefairy in Mt. Moon, and glitching both a Gyarados and a Gengar while I'm there. Afterwards, there'll be a small glitch-fest in Cerulean (including a MissingNo. encounter).

I agree. Also, Primo, can you post a link to the route?
Sure thing. This is not complete, and it also contains a few errors... namely I forgot to pick up a Drowzee while I was in Vermillion, and catching a Growlithe won't work exactly as written. I'll most likely end up having to let two pokémon be sent to a box and retrieve them later.

Primo, I have to say this looks excellent. :3 And you even made Catching a Jigglypuff seem effortless. I used to go through at least ten Pokéballs trying to catch one. xD Keep it up! ^^

Great work so far. Can't wait to see it when the glitches start. :)

I'm really looking forward to this. It is a very clever run. I hope you get the rest of the route specified soon and also, when are you planing to end input? I suppose it could be when you catch the 151st or when you beat the elite four. I'd go for the latter personally, but it is your choice.

I would suspect the input would end when you get the certificate from the programmer.

That's what I thought originally, but I don't think it offers the same closure. It would be as if FODA had ended his SM64 input after speaking to Yoshi on the roof instead of beating the game. I think it should be after beating te elite four because Oak's rating could be used as the closure on the run.

Unlike Mario 64, how many pokémon you have in no way corrilates to how close you are to beating the game. Basically, the run you're suggesting would be a completely different, much longer run. For example, if I were planning to go through victory road, there would be a lot of pokémon I would catch there, instead of evolving them from their earlier forms. As it is, I am aiming for the fastest time to catch the 151st pokémon, and to view the diplom afterwards.

I must say I'm with Mukki in this one. Beating the Elite Four would give much better closure. But because this is primo's run, the choice is ultimately his (unless ending it in the diplom was somehow against TASvideos rules, which I don't think it is). Anyhow, I wish you good luck with this run and hope to get new update soon. ;)
Which run should I encode next? :)

I think that many viewers, myself included, have never seen the certificate from the head programmer. I thought that for this reason, it would be interesting to end the run with this displayed indefinitely. Although there won't be a credit roll, I still think that this is enough closure to catching all 151 pokémon. Were someone to do a run which has the goal 'Fastest time to obtain all 151 pokéman and defeat the Elite Four', it would no doubt be at least an hour or so longer than this run will be. I think that such a run would begin to drag on towards the end.

I agree with this. The certificate is an ending of the game. No need to make the run longer than it needs to be. I like it so far by the way. I was a bit suprised by the wild jigglypuff and all the failed hits by the enemy. I look forward to your next WIP. Please keep up the good work.

Are you going to rearrange your item pouch at all? Having to move down one spot every time that TM is in the way would probably get frustrating.

I desire to see that certificate!
Why, oh, why do I even try to understand my own species?

Hmm...of course, it is your decision Primo. However, the programmer certificate is underwhelming. Also, I just think the run will feel incomplete if you only have 4 or 5 badges. Finally, it surely couldn't be an hour longer? You'd have high level pokemon by then which would waste the elite four (that is if you are going past Cinnabar). Just thought I'd throw that out there. I'll look foward to this whatever you decide to do ;)

A little more documentation for the run if anyone is interested. This a list of how and where I intend to catch each pokémon.

I've caught all 150 pokemon in Pokemon Blue. I can tell you that it looks pretty lame. It has a picture of you and it says something like "congratulations". Lame.

A new WIP which progress up to Cerulean. Squirtle turned out to be weaker than I had anticipated against the Lass in Mt. Moon. This means that I had to manipulate two 1/256 misses back to back against the Oddish. I think Tilus is one of the few who could truly appreciate this battle. I also rolled DVs of F7DF for Gyarados; a little higher speed would have been nice, but overall very good. I had also thought that one could release pokémon directly without storing them first, but apparently not. It looks like I will have to switch boxes now and then, but I'll be making enough trips that this shouldn't be a problem. Next stop, Nugget Bridge.

I originally thought this would be a dull idea, but with the use of glitches it may actually prove to be interesting. I'll wait for a later WIP before I look more into it. As for the "ending" question, I like the idea of just getting the certificate. The goal of this run is to collect the 151 (no rhyme intended), and there's already a run with the goal of beating the game, so there's no point in extending the movie when the goal is already achieved. This was the only Pokemon game I ever caught 'em all in. I'm too lazy to do it in the current games. That, and there are way too many of those super-secret legendary types. Stupid Mew setting a precedent...

Now that the glitch has been found for glitching pokémon at level 100, are you planning to redo part of the route? It must be frustrating, but still, a level 100 Gyarados would do this a lot faster than a level 7 gyarados.

Yes. This new glitch changes everything. Not just Gyarados, but every 2-phase pokémon that I was intending to glitch. Growling 6 times and gaining a little Exp will very often be faster than feeding Rare Candies (for some, I was planning on using as much as 30(!)). The main problem is that I will need to have a Growling pokémon with me everywhere I go (and preferably as the main fighter). Gyarados does not fit this description. The best options would probably be Ivysaur, Nidoran(f), Cubone, or Lapras. At any rate, the entire run needs to be rehashed, which is one of the main reasons why it's currently on hold.

Ending on the certificate is lame its really isn't worth playing that far in order to get it, I don't think you should get 151 Pokemon and say you've finished the game. What about the gyms plus you should really conquer the game by becoming pokemon league champion, as that gives your final stats and play time.

Seconded. I know this was already speculated over before, however, with this new glitch the movie should be short enough to be watchable and since there is likely to be a major route overhaul it shouldn't be to irritating to impliment.

I've been convinced. Having a L100 pokémon the entire run through, there really isn't any good reason not to finish the entire game. However, I still think it would be a good idea to obtain the certificate, as this is the only tangible reward for catching all 150 pokémon. Doing it after the ending credits is a bad idea, because it would extend the movie ~3 minutes. The best option I can think if would be to step inside Indigo Plateau, step back out, and then Fly to Celedon to pick it up. I could also do it before Victory Road, but this would mean not being able to catch any pokémon there, and it wouldn't be all that much faster anyway.

If you are intending on seeing the certificate then, yes, do it after stepping into Indigo Plateau. After the credits wouldn't have the same closure. However, if you did it before Victory Road then the movie would run more fluently and you wouldn't seem to be going so far out of your way. That's just me speaking though. Whatever works for you is best.

In doing some completely random research, I have come across information stating that burning an opponent causes an attack reduction equivalent to two grolws. I wonder if this would be effective towards the glitch? In that case, a Charmander with Ember and Growl would possibly save some time over any Pokemon with just Growl.

Stat reductions from burn and paralysis are separate multipliers as stat mods. Burn is equivalent to stat * 0.5, but the stat modifier is still neutral (7). One Growl + burn would be stat * 0.25, which would take 4 Growls to reach. In any case, burn isn't going to help out here.
