I've actualy already done some of the more popular games onto 2 dvds (around 20 TAS's each, mostly nes and snes) Used nero's basic editor to add menus. If i can find them again, i'll tell you whats on them. At one time, i had all the TAS's dled on my compy. A new computer and a hd failure whiped them all. I was gonna take the time to re-dl but most are missing seeds, and i dont wanna bother encoding them myself, (i have no idea how to.) Good idea, i'd do it, alphabetaized, if i still had them all.

Anyone willing to re-encode a high-quality version of Guano's OoT TAS (whatever is the maximum quality such that the run can fit on one DVD)? I'd highly appreciate it...

I was under the impression he didn't need/have a raw ever since he just had the emulator pipe the video into mencoder...?

He told me he had the raw and couldn't wait to delete it. Here is the answer <DeHackEd> if you mean the 17 GB lossless capture, no I do not. the fixed_quant=17 version I sent you is sufficient

If anyone's interested, I've created a short(:10) intro that can be used for your TASvideos DVDs. Of course, it was more appropriate when the site was still called nesvideos, but it still works. Get the video. (4.39MB, 256x224, 60fps, 48KHz PCM) You'll also need AVIzlib to play it back.

I know this has gone slightly off-topic, but would it be legal to sell a recording of a copyrighted game? I don't see it as much of a problem when it's free, as your not making money off of something someone else built and never gave you credit to record. However, if you started to sell videos like the SM64 120 video or an OoT video, Bisqwit might get sued.

Well, no one's sued SDA yet.

I think you're selling the service to put the run onto a DVD, which is a big time drain...since the runs are available at no cost you're just paying for the effort it takes to put it onto a DVD.

If a user have average 128K connection, he wants to download all TAS videos. How long All those run will take to download? how much he will suffer in downloading? how much it will cost for internet connection's bill? I think DVD is easy and alternate way... I bet it will be low cost than internet bill. User will get Videos without pain and Site will get some revenue ;) who will decide the DVD Cost :d lolz...

I don't really think this is a good idea even if itis legal. As soon as someone puts the videos on DVD and sells them all, there will be obsoleted videos. It seems like you would be putting a lot of effort into something that would constantly need updating, and therefore any DVD that you would buy would be outdated as soon as you buy it. Bad idea. I think there are better ways for Bisqwit to get revenue if he wants it.

Copyright infringement doesn't have anything to do with whether or not it's free - although one might be infringing on the copyright of the person who made the run itself. Something like this would best be distributed for free as a torrent, or for cost of postage+blank DVDs through the post. It's not so easy to do because you have to essentially massage the raw emulator AVI output into NTSC video, and then you have to account for the aspect ratio of the real console. Just merely slapping NES video at 256x224 into a 352x240 29.97fps video does not suffice.
