Yeah, I discovered the double tapping also, but it is still inexcusable. down+jump is SO SIMPLE. WHY couldn't they make that an alternative to pressing the stupid other dash button? I just don't get it. I mean, how often do you want to go down a ladder and jump at the same time? NEVER. That's why down+jump should make Megaman dash. Has anyone actually tried playing Megaman X + with the SNES controller? I refuse to believe I'm the only one who finds it awkward to use a toptally seperate button (very far from all other buttons, by the way) to dash. It's just stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!!!

I have played MMX1-3 only on the SNES, and, like I said, I find it much easier to work dashing into my normal routine when compared to the original megaman games. When I think dash, I don't expect the down button to play any role in it. I don't understand your point about ladders. If anything, having a dash button instead of down+jump is better for the same example that you gave: you can't absentmindedly go for a dash in MMX and accidentally fall down a ladder. The possibility for this error was removed when a new dash button was incorporated, and for that I say "way to think of every possible scenario when it comes to dashing, Capcom. Well done." Down is reserved for ducking, jumping down, sliding, but not dashing. Dashing is a forward movement, so the left/right inputs should be used. Any statements contrary to this are blasphemy. Also, since when was A/Y super far away from the other buttons? Be thankful they didn't use X or Select to dash.

There is no ducking in Megaman. Megaman does not duck, he only slides. Also he does not jump down specifically. He only jumps up. The ONLY thing up and down is for used for in the Megaman games I've played is to climb up or down ladders. So far, as far as I can see, this does not interfere with my suggestion of making down+jump an alternative to dashing. Down+jump is just a shortcut. Like any slightly advanced more in any fighting game. Except the fact that I can't perform it properly when one of my fingers is effectively disabled. Imagine if the "hadoken" move in Street Fighter 2 was changed to down+up+left+highjump+lowkick+highkick", then imagine if you hade to perform it during an intense fight, and then you might understand what I'm talking about. I would have used a simpler combination but I don't know enough about SF2 to make my point better. I only have room for about 2 buttons at the same time on each thumb. I'm sorry, I guess I'm in a minority here. I can only press 2 buttons at the same time with one thumb comfortably. I can press more, but I have to put my hand in an awkward position and it just doesn't feel right. I have the crazy idea that the controls of a game should be readily available without hours of previous training. I guess I'm crazy. :/ Edit: Okay, I realize now that my example in Street Fighter 2 did not sense make. Oh well.

I guess you haven't really played Killer Instinct Gold or anything lately. Anyways, apology accepted.

I think we can all agree that Meggermanx One Through A Zillion is a debacle in the Meggerman series.

I agree with Blublu here. The only way I can play the X-series and dash effectively is to use my index finger curled up on that side of the controller. My right thumb is very comfortable across both the Y and B buttons, and this has become the standard for jumping and attacking in platformers because it's a good setup. Sliding as the down+jump combination I would argue is one of the most revolutionary moves in early platform game history. Mega Man 3 started it, and it spread everywhere from Kirby to Castlevania. Why? Because it's a good control scheme. My solution would be to put dash on the R button of the SNES controller. Sure, we'd lose the ability to jog-dial both directions through our weapons without pausing...but I can't think of any places where this would seriously affect gameplay. Bonus: If using a PS controller on an emulator, just set dash to R1 and your weapon selections to L2 and R2.

Dash in Down+B would be horrible. Mostly because it's nothing like slide. When you let go, the dashing stops (except in Rockman & Forte). And there is always the double tap option. I guess Capcom wanted to create a completely different serie so they didn't put dash to L or R because of fast weapon switching. Dash in A might be a problem for someones when speedrunning, but if you just play the game you don't have to dash when jumping and shooting at enemies.

Wrong! they made it less accessible. On my SNES gamepad, I find it incredibly awkward to dash, jump and shoot at the same time.
Shift your dash button to L, and your change weapon buttons to X and A. They let you remap controls, it's only your fault if you aren't taking advantage of it. EDIT: Anyway, best Rockman series is Rockman Zero, best Famicom Rockman game is Rockboard (with 3-5 following and probably 3 on top), best X-series game is X1, then X8, then X6..

Okay, you win. I guess it's much better to change the dash button to L. Now that I think about it, that is probably even better than the down+jump combination. But I would still prefer changing it do down+jump. The only excuse I have now is that I'm more used to that. :P

Yeah I was just about to say, doesn't the SNES game let you change the controls? I have been playing MM2 like you guys said. The only MM game I really ever played was MM3, and I loved it. But in 2 you can't slide, super annoying that is, but the game is fun. I really love the megaman series. I am pretty pissed megaman hasn't made it into Smash Brothers yet...

Hmm I think Mega Man 2 is the best one but in my opinion, Mega Man 3 has the best stage music (every stage is beautifully orchestrated) although Mega Man 2 is also a strong candidate in that category.

For I am a great MegaMan fan here are my favourite : - MM2 in the MegaMan classic series - MMX1 - 2 - 8 are very good in the X series - MMZ4 is my favourite in the Zero series but also the easiest MegaMan Soccer is lame in my opinion. Power Battle and Pwer Fighter are funny games and The MMLegends series are not very good (still in my opinion). Coming to Angerfist's music point, here are my convictions : - MM3 has the best music ever (Sparkman's stage is terrible !!!) - MMX2 has the best sound in the X series (I love flame Stag's theme !!)

Mega Man 2 is my favorite of all the games and all the series - graphics, music, gameplay, challenge, and fun were all top-notch not only for their time, but still today. Although Mega Man 3 was good, it was somewhat assembly-lined, I thought. The later games in the series suffered from this more and more.

I've always liked MM3 best because of the music. I know a couple of other people feel this way, too, therefore I must be right!

But Kirby's Adventure lets you slide with Down+B! That's because B is for attacking stuff. Why doesn't Meggarmin's slide attack stuff?

My personal favorites are Mega Man 1, 2 and X. Not coincidentally, those are the only three I ever owned and played obsessively. The rest were either rentals or, in recent years, emulated nostalgia-recapturing experiments.

My favorite is Rockman8. But every time when asking "What's your favorite/best game in this series?" Almost no one mention it. :(

In addition, you can't dash-jump with Down+B. Double-tap is awkward. The single-button press is simply the best way.
