THat is the sad downfall to h264 encodes. Many encoders that make the videos figure out or don't care that most computers can't run them. Because they figure if their computer runs it then everyone else should. For now I would just suggest reencoding it to xvid, thats what I'm doing.

I took a liberty of moving the off-topic posts into a separate thread. Please continue about the N64 game here. [Edit: And moved _this_ post back to the right thread. :) ]

This new xvid video file, it still lags on my computer? You must be doing something wrong. I did my xvid's with meconder at 1440 kbps with the some of the same resolutions you have for your videos to reencode the file, then they play well, but for some reason my computer isnt playing the ones you encode. Must be more then an issue of the resolution.

Are you referring to the "CIA Rooftop [xvid version]" video? Because that's the only xvid video I can find on this page… I downloaded it, and it plays fine on my work laptop. It seems to be about 380 kbit/s in bandwidth, and the effective frame rate of it is around 16 fps (because 8/11 of the frames are just dummy no-changes frames). > You must be doing something wrong. Something must be wrong in your computer. ↑ Do not get defensive over this statement. I only used the exactly same wording as you did. You should learn to not use "must be" and blaming others when you have no idea what's happening. When you learn that, you will avert lots of pointless quarrels that you usually get into.

I actually replaced it after he posted with a 320x240 version instead of 640x480 as it's a easier to play but it's almost the same file. I don't see how i am doing anything wrong, unless there is a secret to capturing and encoding it without default settings of either x264 or xvid.. is there?

mplayer may have a problem with videos that have frames dropped IIRC. Plus xvid just isn't a good codec :p

mplayer has no such problem to mine or the developer's knowledge. http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/bugs.html That's a list of all the known mplayer bugs.
