Exactly, By buying these two objects before going to K3, I think it would save time. PS: One thing I think it might be useful, not tried it. When you go to the second bounus in the second level with the doors, you could take the piece before the bonus, so when you finished the bonus, the piece will be back, meaning one piece = two pieces!

According to my testing, getting this coin even normally (after dropping from the bonus) is not worth it, as there are other coins that cost less (or no frames) to collect. Also, I think it really is just faster to do all the purchasing right at the very end. I don't remember exactly how the game plays out towards the end, but I seem to recall the game depositing you in the starting lagoon / Wrinkly's first Save Cave after the first reset during the first round of credits. Either way, we have to go to Funky's to get the Gyrocopter, meaning the trip to Bazaar is pretty much on the way. Flying to his house in the Gyrocopter is trivial if that turns out to be necessary as well. HOWEVER... If we determine that it's faster to spend the coins before doing K2, it would have to save at least 250 frames, as changing the coin route would cost at least this many frames.

Oh also, I just remembered that some major issues have cropped up with the bear coin list I posted. Now that the trick in Kong-Fused Cliffs has been discovered, the bear coins need to be collected again and the frame cost determined. I have a strong feeling that most (if not all of them) will not be collected anymore.

I just finished the test with the name "TAS", still no luck with the second bonus, but then I found out that the bonus can be manipulated on the outside; the frame you touch the bonus barrel changes the banana setup. but ElectroSpecter said something that I guess, will force a small change on the code entry screen:

do we need to wait for the credits like DKC2 before we can reset? if so, how about use the "ASAVE" code?

Unfortunately, the green banana bonuses aren't always this kind ;) In later levels, it's sometimes necessary to wait on the map screen (as many as 15 frames in past WIPs) to get a good bonus. Also, bananas can be manipulated in SOME of the green banana bonuses depending on the Kongs' locations. The first one is a good example of this.

Hm, I've never tested this out, and I'm not sure that it's kosher with the site rules. In fact, I don't really remember testing anything with resetting the credits. It's possible that we can reset as soon as K. Rool is defeated, but it's also equally possible that we have to wait through the credits before the game autosaves. I remember when I TASed Demon's Crest, the latter was the case.

I hope it's not against any rule, in any case I'll test it right now to see if it can save some frames, as it saves the game after each level, we can reset and resume at the same location.

Do we have to beat the boss(the last one with the boss of the lost world) in order to access the max %? If not, what'll we'll do? skip them? or do it for the sake of completition?

I believe to get to Clifftop Cache in Razor Ridge for the banana bird there, in addition to needing to trade for the wrench to be able to use the lift, he also charges you 2 bear coins to use it. I'm sure by that point, you'll have more than enough or be able to easily get 2 more, just thought I'd mention it in case whoever is running the game got there with exactly 55 bear coins and had to backtrack for 2 coins.

I don't remember they need two pieces.... I think only the tool is needed. Anyway, by that point, there is still the levels in K3 to take them, if we buy the miror and the rock before.

Like I said, I realllllly don't think that it's faster to buy them before, as you need to go get the Gyrocopter after anyway.

The "ASAVE" test is finished, but it saved 0 (zero) frames :( using it or not, the game only saves after Cranky's conversation.

So I guess beating the boss of the "last world" and the lost world contribute to the 105%. Am I right?

Yes. Like in DKC2, you must beat the boss on the "Lost World" to achieve full completion. /of course you also need; all bonus coins, all DK coins and all Banana Birds.

I thought it was possible to skip them because when you go to the cave where you save on the "main map", the birds carry you somewhere, then it's the staff credits, or, if I'm not wrong, you can directly go to the clouds on the upper left screen with the gyrocopter.

um..., now you got me! but looks like you gain 1 or 2% for each boss you beat, so you still need to defeat those two bosses for 105%.

We need to be sure! Well, if we could skip them, it would save huge time! But I agree it could be "less complete" in a way, we must choose: beat them for completition sake, or let them alive for time sake.

ok then, you MUST defeat the bosses, otherwise you can't progress.

About using two Bear Coins to use the lift: I think that you can just use the Wrench the first time, and every time thereafter you must pay 2 coins to use it again (which wouldn't come up in a run). Er, also, I think you get the 41st DK Coin for killing Baron K. Roolenstein the second time.

I'm kinda lost with so many "variables" on this game, but I guess we just need to do this: complete 40 levels, complete 81 bonus rooms, collect 85 bonus coins, defeat 8 bosses, rescue 15 banana birds, collect 55 bear coins, collect 41 DK coins, collect 5 golden cogs (?), find, buy or trade these items: A Present (Bowling Ball), Flower, Shell, Mirror, and the No. 6 Wrench. if someone did a complete test run of this game and are willing to share with us, it would be really helpful. in any case, I'll try to do it myself, just to be sure we are not collecting unnecessary stuff.

There's a 105% speedrun up at SDA here that you could watch. This wouldn't give you the freedom of testing it yourself, but it would save a lot of work and time.

I would feel a lot more comfortable with redoing the Bear Coin list at this point, as I don't trust some of my ancient vague notes (and also because three of the Bear Coins in Kong Fused Cliffs are now not optimal to get). So I think I'm going to redo my list over the next week or so. EDIT: World 1 Bear Coins redone. The sidequest route I planned (page 10 of this topic) still seems pretty solid to me, so that should still stick.

Unless there are some fancy skips that I'm not aware of (quite likely :P), this is the chain of requirements to get 105%: Gyrocopter and some Bear trading to get the Banana birds. All DK coins to get the Gyrocopter, which includes beating K.Roolenstein in the Lost World. Get all golden cogs to fight K.Roolenstein 2, which includes getting all Bonus Coins. Getting all Bonus Coins inlcude beating K.Roolenstein the first time, which includes beating all non-Lost World levels and beating all other bosses.
Even the best player is limited by the speed of his fingers, or his mind's ability to control them. But what happens when speed is not a factor, when theory becomes reality?

I've been wondering and searching for map skips for some time (as the overworld map in this game gives you a bit more freedom to move around when in the water) but I haven't found much yet. Skips would be awesome though, especially in an any%.

I noticed a while ago that you speed up slightly every time you pass over a rock as the hovercraft. I actually managed to go fast enough to match the 3rd boat's speed, but wasn't able to go up a waterfall. Didn't test it too much though.
