Nice find, I guess Nibelung did something similar when he took damage with Dixie and passed through a barely opened shutter wit Kiddy. this game is so glitchless that anything we can find will help alot. anyway, just finished Creepy Cavern, thank God no banana bonus in there...

IIRC many of the Lost World levels have three bonuses, two of them being green banana bonuses. Sounds like a nightmare.

if there's something that would make me gave up this run, it would be a green banana bonus with ghost barrels and water! talk about a horrible combination... but I'm starting to like those bonuses, they'll give us time to find new things, hopefully.

just watched Tompa's movie and 0xwas is faster into the first bonus level, are there plans to optimize it? I can't watch 0xwas's movie, it tells me it's unsupported on my emulator but the version is correct (v1.43), help? in full mine actually says v1.43+ v13, is that the problem?

When you get that message, it generally means that SNES9x-RR v1.51 was used; SNES9X-RR v1.43 cannot play movie files from v1.51.

Alaktorn: I'm actually three frames faster into the first bonus. The in game timer is really crappy. Let's take some frames before entering the bonus: Frame 1: 14:82 (On the in game timer) Frame 2: 14:83 Frame 3: 14:84 Frame 4: 14:85 Frame 5: 14:96 (Where I enter the bonus) Frame 6: 14:97 Frame 7: 14:90 Frame 8: 14:91 (Where was0x enters the bonus) Also, download the SNES9X 1.43 version I posted on the previous page, it's version 17 and you'll be able to play the movie using that one.

Will entering the bonus later give you a better timer when it spits you out of the bonus?

Um... the character management in Creepy Caverns and Lightning Lookout didn't quite worked as intended, I hope we have a better luck in the final run, lots of random things on those stages, but no new Bear Coin; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1900878268/DKCIII.smv

oh god, why does it work that way…? that also fucks up non-assisted speedruns :/ I have another question about movies: how do I jump directly to a specific frame in a WIP? I've watched the old WIP, how do I skip that so I can watch only the new part of the new WIP? and how do I watch the input of the movie? I tried turning on "display input" but nothing shows

Your best bet is to make a savestate at the end of the WIP and then load the savestate when playing a new WIP. Be sure to check that the movie is in READ ONLY mode.
and how do I watch the input of the movie? I tried turning on "display input" but nothing shows
Check the hotkey options for input display and toggle it to the button of your choice. I'm not sure how to do this in Snes9x, since I'm not familiar with it, but it should be somewhere in the options.

I was a little worried about Koindozer Klamber, but it turned out to be one of the smoothest stages to do, except the banana bonus of course... I guess there will be no surprises from this point, so this may be the last of my "wips", and our official run will start as soon as possible. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1467233306/DKCIII.smv

SWEET! The only things I have to check on are the Bear coin in Murky Mill and the ones in Kong-Fused Kliffs, to see how much time they take.

Okay, there will be a holiday this week, and I'll try to finish the Lost World in the meantime.

I don't know what's wrong with my test run, just watch what happened on the Lost World and after the Special Ending; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1846343380/DKCIII.smv

Some notes as I'm watching: - Awesome idea in Konveyor Rope, getting hit so that Kiddie can plow through all those bees! - Pretty decent luck on Creepy Caverns. Hopefully it will be the same in the final run. - I love the DK coin grab in poisonous pipeline! - Did you figure out how to skip the Ellie barrel in Stampede Sprint? Too bad it's not useful for a couple different reasons (the main one being that the camera won't scroll). - YES! You got Tompa's team throw theory to work in Criss Kross Cliffs! - The bear coin in the bird after the Squitter barrel only takes 11 frames to get I believe, but my Bear Coin list needs some adjustments after watching this. - HAHA what the hell did you do to Boomer? - You don't need to go back to the first Wrinkly's Cave to trigger the 2nd ending, you can just go into the one in Mekanos I think. - Yes, stupidly, 3% of the game is attained by going to Swanky's. I never knew this. (You don't need to actually play any games). - Also, after your movie file ended and I went into Swanky's I had 6 bear coins. I wasn't paying too much attention to WHY though, so I should look into this. Overall, awesome! EDIT: A couple very interesting discoveries: BEAR COINS: Watch 7E05C9 (the bear coin address) closely when buying items from Bazaar. In the test run, the game attempts to take all 55 away, but gets cut off at 8 when you leave the cabin! This means that we only have to get 50 bear coins in the run, and the new trick would go something like this: Enter Bazaar Bear's at the end, purchase the mirror, and leave quickly so that you're left with 8 coins. Re-enter and buy the shell! (Remind you of Link's Awakening?) TRIGGERING ENDING 2: Dooty, After some testing, I'm assuming you encountered the glitch where the game freezes if you try to enter a different Wrinkly's Cave. The fix for this would be to save just one time at any point in the run (probably fastest to do this right at the beginning when you enter her cave automatically). This will prevent the freeze from happening and you can just enter Wrinkly's Cave in Mekanos instead of returning the Gyrocopter and stuff.

Thanks a lot, I was about to give up. @ ElectroSpecter; - Ellie's barrel must be used. - I guess we just need 50 Bear Coins to buy the mirror, exit the the bear house before the counter reaches zero then enter again to buy the shell. - about Boomer, it's possible to pay for the last explosion the same way; exit before the counter reaches zero.

That's actually pretty interesting, it would save you from having to head back after completing Swoopy Salvo, right? Also, the stuff I mentioned in a previous post but got bumped back a page too soon:

Another strange thing; the flower we must give to Bramble only appears after the shell is given to Barnacle, so we must alter the route of Banana Birds too. I'm glad I finish this test run, it would be a pain to find this stuff out after a couple of months of hard work, and then redo the whole thing...

Is is really faster to only get 50 bear coins, exit to save those last few and buy the mirror, or would it not be faster to get the 55? Going by the provisional list on page 16 of this thread, I don't see you losing much time by picking up 55 coins, and in order to actually save time by avoiding 5 of these, it would have to be faster to exit Bazaar's shop, re-enter it, and then buy the second item, which I very much doubt.

Yes, you're right, just Boomer will benefit from this trick, since we must enter his hut more than once anyway.

exit the second bonus with Squitter or Squawlks, pass the no animal sign a little higer and then hover above Ellie's barrel, but there's no way to do this stage without Ellie.

First off, the Bear Coin issue: Toothache, that list is quite inaccurate at this stage in the TAS. Many new tricks and different strategies have eliminated several of the coins that take 0 frames to collect. Dooty, we shouldn't say that it's completely out of the question to do the Bazaar trick, as many of the new Bear Coins we have to get take a substantial amount of time to collect. Once the list has been finalized (which will be soon), we can compare it with how long it takes to do the Bazaar trick. Also, you can skip the Ellie barrel without animals ;)

The new Bear Coin list is done. I hadn't realized it before, but the coins in Kong-Fused Kliffs still take 0 frames to get, as we have to wait for the rope to burn anyway. The coins you collected, Dooty, are all optimal except for one case: Instead of getting the coin in Ropey Rumpus, which takes like 35 frames or something, get the one in Tyrant Twin Tussle, that I mentioned before that takes 10 frames. Otherwise, our lists are exactly the same! As a small aside note, we could get the coin in Doorstop Dash above the sandbags instead of getting either one of these two: - The Murky Mill coin or - the first coin in Konveyor Rope since they all take ~14 frames to collect. I believe this would be a good decision so that viewers aren't left scratching their heads about why we didn't collect a coin that looks like it would be fast to grab. In light of this new shit and me realizing that the Kong Fused Kliff coins don't take any frames to get, about 130 frames are used up total in the entire run collecting coins. The Bazaar trick almost definitely takes longer than that, so that's probably out.

Okay, but there's a small problem; I just tested the Swanky's Sideshow and it didn't gave me those 3%, but watching the Special Ending twice did! any ideas?
