http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29857205609249683 Thanks for that. I fixed that part and I managed to save an extra 9 frames at the Birdo fight. I am now 13 frames ahead.

That's nice. Just keep in mind to take every possible thing into account and to take your time on the run.

I take a couple of hours for each level. It gets easier now since it's the third time I do this run. Also, 3-1 is done: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29886754059159950 19 frames ahead. There is no difference in 1-3. Weirdly, there was an extra lag frame when restarting the game costing me 1 frame. I saved 4 frames at the falling part by jumping instead of falling. I saved 1 frame in the cave area with better subpixels and another 2 frames at potion throwing for a total of 7 frames.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29972624023142716 26 frames ahead. I saved 2 frames in the first part by jumping on the ostro instead of landing on it. I saved 3 frames in the cave area. I saved another 2 frames at Birdo.

I now realized that I forgot to mention something on your previous submission: In the cave section when you push against the wall after the fish jump. If you move to the left you can keep some of the speed and in the end reach the door one frame earlier. Here's my method of it: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/29973110558134307

5-2: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/30330464726140993 111 frames ahead. I saved 3 frames at the second part of the level and I saved 82 frames at the Birdo fight. Total time save of 85 frames.

Much cleaner Birdo fight there, nice nice! However: In the first cave with the ladder, you could have achieved a higher X-subpixel value there as well, I had 224 in my test which let me pick up the Hoopster early. In the end, three frames were saved up to the vine at the end of the section.

I am very sorry if I am asking a stupid question here, but I am curious to this. (This is an SMB3 related question). Since SMAS has Left+Right which theoretically gives a speed of 63, higher than the NES's 56, why hasn't anyone tried to defeat 10:25.6 on the SNES? I didn't say, obsolete, so you know... I think it is possible, and a 100% run to defeat the NES run is also possible. I suppose the SNES may have slower load times and after-level delays, but I believe the Left+Right makes up for it. Perhaps some people can test to see if my claim is true?

It has been TASed. Here is one version from many years ago: www.tasvideos.org/891S.html encode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkUzj5dcbQs While it is improveable, not by 10+ seconds. There's also a TAS on the GBA version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKfFUhSOf5k

How can you be so sure? That was before numerous glitches were discovered and different strategies were discovered. I would like this to be TASed again and we will see.

You can optimise getting the mushoom and leaf. Possibly faster to grab the leaf in 1-3. Unsure how much that will save. 1½ seconds with better HB RNG in W1, to reduce the amount of steps. For 8-Tank 1 it's unsure how much can be saved because of the boomerang bro RNG, to kill it before he throws the boomerang. Otherwise some time could be saved by getting ahead of the camera both here, 8-ship and 8-Tank 2. Possibly faster route in 8-F2 and Bowser's Castle, can also have Bowser lower down for the final hit. Yeah, it is very improveable. But I can't see 13 seconds. Feel free to try.

You're probably right about the leaf. I believe that big mario can clip the block holding leaf in 1-3, correct? I think that will save some time over current strategies. 293 is possible in 1-F. For the fortress, I am trying to find a faster route. Mugg's strat looks pretty fast but I am not sure about all the options. For the Castle, I think the current TAS strat is the best, with short hop trick. Nitsuja's run will probably get screwed mainly around the castle... :P

Not that much right now. I have a small down of motivation so progress is stalling. I will still try to finish by the end of may.

I'm sorry if my nitpicking makes you drop the motivation a bit. As I could really have done a better job at it the first time you showed a WIP here. Do you want me to go through your previous run in more detail and write down all small improvements for it?

I'm fine with all your feedback. I have learned more that way and it helps me to make it better because I tend to overlook small details like subpixel caryover. The lack of motivation is more on my side. I mostly had to take a small break from this game since it's the third time I'm making this run since january. Also, theses days, I feel more like doing something else than TASing. I have so much other project though that I don't want to stop TASing. EDIT: I finished 5-3 if you want to check it. I have a 139 frames lead. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/30956988824298601

You could have landed earlier to start the crouch charge, also remember to gain distance when you go around corners by first holding the opposite direction and then turn around to get as much speed as possible without hitting the wall. This way, 9 frames could be saved: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/30981142053053250

7-1: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/31090401675108277 I am 176 frames ahead. I managed to beat one rocket frame rule saving me a frame. I saved another frame in the room after and with the help of the left+right trick on ladders, I saved 27 frames at the climbing part. Now let's hope I can make the veggie cycle in 7-2!

Hello. I have been playing Kirby, but I'm kinda not fimilar with the vegetable trick that it was used in the current publication of SMAS SMB2. Also is using Mario faster in 1-1?
i think i got banned again... I don't know if I can do TASing at the moment. May in summer or something? Soon-ish... Aka. Chuterix, formerly ChutacoackoTAS (did I even address that name?) Check out my RTA's and TASes here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx6JXd3XDSkJqREaLQDYlDg P.S. I have school on weekdays unless break or something. So I will not read messages until the weekends or until further notice.

No matter what version, SMB2 is a hard game to TAS. If you don't even have idea of which character use, or even the easy vegetable trick... I suggest you to don't even try... but as I can't stop you, good luck! Also, is a bad idea.
