It looks fine if you're running a high resolution and always have your browser fullscreened.

I don't always have my browser fullscreened... in fact, it looks better if the columns are _not_ very far apart. A window of 1400 wide is a little too wide, but a window of about 1000 wide is just fine. 800x600 might be cramped. The font size is the greatest factor. In my opinion anyway.

The forum scared the shit out of me when I woke up this morning, but I'll probably get used to it. Kinda nice to see someone actually editing the classical forum-design.

It seems like opinions are different for everyone. Some people like it, some don't. It's almost a 50-50 ratio. All in all, an option to choose what layout we prefer (via the profile settings) would be the only way to please everyone. You could leave the two-columns layout as the default one.

Yes, that seems to be my opinion as well.

That's a good point. One of the great things about about this forum is that most posters are literate. This is a forum for intelligent discussion of games. Please don't pollute it with text message slang. EDIT -- I am talking about TASvideos discussion boards in a wide sense not the off-topic forum etc.

what? if we use slang we save space. for example why write "through" instead of "thru", since they're pronounced exactly the same way. just lots of unnecessary letters. so... use slang. only use letters which are needed, example: would > wud forever > 4ever weird > wierd (should be the proper spelling since that's how it's pronounced) etc. i mean.. english is totally weird.

This site has users from all around the world. Some of the people who do not speak English as a first language just won't get what is going on.

>"Fixed" the one-column problem by substituting the floating boxes with a two-column table. Damn non-compliant browsers. Are you suggesting Opera is non-compliant? I'm pretty sure they would like to hear about such a thing so they can fix it, since they are usually very zealous about conforming to standards.

Did Opera fail to render it as two columns? I find that surprising to hear.

Just give up and give us an option to change it back, Ceej. +1 for the GameFAQs reference and +1 for the right idea.

I also agree that it should be an option - make the default two columns and that's fine, but with phpbb it should be easy enough to add it to the control panel as an option. I find it more cluttered even at a window size of 1356x1175.

Opera is non-compliant in several ways, last I checked.

maybe we can have a style switcher? or something like that? so everyone can choose old/new ;)?

Style-switch sounds nice. I use 1024×768, so I still have scrolling to do. This new layout doesn't make everything nice and neat, it makes things cluttered and unnecessary. Ack. Ick.

Yes, this saves mountains of space.
i mean.. english is totally weird.
Internet chat speak, on the other hand, is very sensible.

Now that it actually works and I've used it enough, I kind of both like and dislike the new forum layout. On one hand, the most-used forums (General, Workbench/Published) are at the top now, but on the other hand, it just seems cluttery to have two columns. I'd be for shrinking the row size some, either by using less padding or shrinking the gigantic "No new posts" icon down to the forum size, but then again I'm probably too used ot Acmlmboards...
