I've been wanting to do this for a long time but, I felt that the author of the 120 star run would probally do this in the end, but after a long discussion on IRC he had no objection to me doing it and so I started the very next day.
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Takes Damage to save time
  • Ignores semi-important goals
Thanks to everyone on the SM64 board including nesrocks, Robert_z, laughing gas,silent_slayers and to a certain extent RIkku as his previous unsubmitted TAS showed some great strategies that I would otherwise would have not come up with at the time.
I was excited about doing this becuase with all the glitches available I could really do the whole thing completely out of order and being 3D would allow me to me more expressive in my actions as opposed to the roboticness of 2D.
Over the course of the game I reckon the choice of stars saved 4 seconds, the new star glitches and shortcuts saved 15 seconds and the lobby glitch saved 6 seconds, while the rest of the time came through better optimization. This was possible because of Nitsuja's virtual analougue stick which I strongly argue gives far more precision that what a controller would give espeacally for optimal turns and long jumps as well as moving at hyper speed.

Nicely optimized. Overall, very nice job. The bird-claw Desert star was noticeably improved and Bowser 2 was just a nice outside-the-box idea. I don't care for the giant zoom whatever glitch, but it wasn't too frequent in the run.

great job AKA. It had enough new techniques and tricks to differentiate itself from the old run and make the game seem new and exciting again. Yes vote and keep the star.

Just finished watching and have voted yes. Great run. I haven't been following the thread recently so i didn't really know what to expect. I loved how different it was from Spezzafer's run, i was expecting just that with FODA's improvements but you made this fresh and new. I was at no point bored and Mario moved fluently and optimally throughout. I never saw any real room for improvement (perhaps hit the castle door more cleanly at the start? I don't know, im sure I will be corrected quickly. Does the door animation pull you in?) and everything looked perfect. Great improvement on a run that once upon a time blew my mind. Brilliant.

Spez's Mario64 run got me into TAS, and now that it has been improved so significantly, how can I say no? This deserves a STAR too!!! OMG, I have demanded for 2 stars already today LOL

A highly entertaining improvement of a Mario game, with even more speed abuse? Why anyone would truthfully vote meh or no is beyond me...
<Zurreco> if so called professional players cant adapt to every playing field, theyre obviously not that great

Reluctant yes vote, because "glitches suck" is the new fad.

Well, AKA, I saw a lot of spots where you could have cut off a lot of time. I wouldn't be surprised if you could make this a sub15, if not sub10. I'll talk more about them later, when most people don't remember. Also, I'll probably change my mind at the last second about everything.

Very impressive - the "oh hay i will just teleport around the battlefield to my whim" thing kinda broke my mind, and while the rest of the run wasn't as glitchtacular, it was without a doubt an improvement. Yes vote!

The battlefield star without even touching the island is always pleasant to my eyes. Well done, a new TAS will become famous as soon as the GoogleVideo starts spreading around.

I wonder if FODA will have a go when he's done with the 120 star, although anyone who wants to have a go at it is more than welcome, although I'd fully expect a near perfect run, that goes as far as avoiding un-needed coins, although don't forget I also saved time in Bowser#2 by not having to recover so much health afterwards.

Again? coins don't waste time, last time i checked, unless you pick more than 100.

After you finish a level, when you jump out of the painting, the game counts up all your coins. If you had no coins, wouldn't it take less time?

Is there anywhere I can download an AVI from? With a big exception to BitTorrent

Yes, BitTorrent. (Why's that an exception?)

glad to see it was published, a very good TAS. maybe the description could be altered a little so that it describes (even very primarily) what has been improved since the last version ? as of now, it's just a copy/paste.

Bisqwit, I can't stand I'd rather download it from a central server e.g. FF or Archive.org, since I get like 2kbs for BitTorrent, where as I can get 50-150 on a central server. I agree with SXL, as I thnk the description should definitley be changed, so as to at least give a reference to the improvements that were made.
