Hello any noble viewers! Please help me! I am new to linux and decided to try and view some of my favourite TAS videos on it. I installed MPlayer like it says on the codec help page (the latest version) and it will not play the videos. Do I have to install the right codecs now? If so how and where can I get them from? Many thanks in advance. Ritch

What happens when you try? Anyway believe it or not there are big packs of codecs on the download page :) just scroll down a bit. http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

I'm fairly certain every single video on this site can be played by ffmpeg, which mplayer has built-in. The 1.0pre8 release or newer should handle every single video on this site without issue, CPU power permitting.

Where can I get 1.0pre8 from? The only one I can find on the site is this "MPlayer v1.0rc1" which I installed from source.

rc1 is newer than pre8.

maybe there's an error message you missed. Try starting mplayer from the console and pasting the error message. You might also have missed something when installing mplayer from sources. If you're new to linux, you're better off installing mplayer via your distribution's package manager.

I've got many issues with 1.0pre8 and rc1 release related to sounds. One movie is Link's awakening. I recommend SVN versions, they are usually better.
