It's indeed legal. There's many legal site mentioning that site. Though, maybe giving a direct link is illegal which isn't the case here. But I don't think telling people to get something there is legal...

Well, in Sweden there's even a Pirate Party, if I remember correctly... Anyway, I tried SOTN and it worked quite fine, except that the captions at the start menu were garbled without a bios file, and the emulator crashed when I tried to record a movie with anything but the default file. Plus, it's not re-recording yet. All in all, looks really promising.

Just a quick update, and not the good kind. It seems PCSX has a savestate bug that causes the control pads to lock up sometimes. It seems to be actually part of the emulator core as the game actually stops sending the hardware signals to read the gamepads. I'm going to see if I can figure it out, but in the meantime development will be seriously slowed... :(

I tried to test it, but the emulator crashed whenever I tried to write a savestate or when I tried to create a movie file. Also, how do you play ISO on it? I can only see play through CD-ROM/exe

CD-ROM is misleading. Set up a CD-ROM plugin that reads ISOs. Though this is unsupported*, because I've been using a real CD-ROM locally for all my testing. *Under the classic software definition of unsupported.

Wow, I just checked Mega Man X4, X5, X6 and they synched perfectly. Great job DeHackEd and Valarnin! I played all of them about 15 minutes past several loading screens, but never got any problems playing them back. I used: Graphics: Pete's D3D Driver 1.76 Sound: P.E.Op.S. Dsound Audio Driver 1.9 Controller: N-Rage Plugin 0.95 Cdrom: Mooby 2 cd disk image driver 2.8 Bios: Internal HLE Bios These are however the first plugins I tried, so I think others might work as well. I always loaded through bios, but I could later also replay these movies loading the ISO normally. Problems I stumbled upon: - when browsing for the movie file, the program did not recognize them, thus not showing them in the window. However manually typing it into the field loaded them properly - MMX4 was an ISO, so this message came up: "The plugin does not support ISO-9660 images. If this is a binary image, rename it with a ".bin" extension." It still loaded it without having to rename it (which I actually didn't) - when choosing to load/save a state, there seems to open the "open image" window, like the one to load a game. Thus I could not use this feature neither when playing normally nor while recording Please consider this as help, not criticism. Again, amazing work! Thanks EDIT: Mega Man 8 and Resident Evil Director's cut dual shock edition synch too. EDIT: Crash Bandicoot desynchs very soon. Looks like we can only tas Capcom games :)

This thread hasn't had activity since July. Has PSX TAS'ing been abandoned?

Low priority due to severe bugs in the emulator itself, busy life, and the basic fact that I have other projects as well which seem more successful, like that snes9x+lua thing. It's a killjoy, I know.

I hope you can get success in your other projects to back work in this project... Good Luck... :)

I'm working on my own PCSX Re-recording version. It still doesn't have a fancy file format or cool replay/record dialog boxes, but most of the other stuff is already done: speed controls, input re-recording, a possible fix/hack for most of the desync issues, 9 savestate slots, etc. What I would really like is frame advance, but I haven't find a pause function, and the speed seems to be controlled only by the GPU plugin. I've recorded some videos with it (the only avi recording option is from the GPU plugin, so there's no easy way to record sounds right now): Crash Bandicoot: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Unlike DeHackEd, I'm a terrible programmer; so don't expect anything decent from me. Still, I will release my version+source code in case anyone wants to have some fun with it. Just as soon as I write a decent movie file format for it (right now, it just looks like this:
1111111111011111
1111111111011111
1111111111111111
1111111111111111
, it doesn't even have a header and it crashes the emulator after the last input :P).

The community is eagerly waiting for PSX tasing to become reality, so if this works it would be great. The videos look very promising, too. Still, there is the question, if or how you managed to solve the savestate problem of PCSX that DeHackEd was so worried about. Maybe you can talk with him, bisqwit or someone else who has both experience with PCX emulation and the mechanics required for a proper tas emulator. I'd love to play around with the program, but I understand if you don't want rush releasing it too early.

I'm having some difficulty integrating zlib, mainly in "what files go where." When I put zlib.h and zconf.h in MVC++'s Include directory, it can't open zlib.lib. When I add all of zlib to the PCSX project as a dependency, create the .lib and place it in VC98/Lib, I get a multiply defined error for a bunch of standard functions. You mentioned wanting an emulator pause function, so I'm searching for that. So far the only thing I've found is a flag for it in Win32/resource.h, "ID_EMULATOR_PAUSE" defined as 40005. I expect if a pause function was found, it could then be given a case statement in WndMain.c around line 400.
Working on a mod of an old favorite in my spare time. PM for updates!

I only experienced that bug once; then I just restarted the emulator and it was gone. I haven't tested a lot of games, though. And it was probably caused by the internal BIOS, it causes a lot of bugs. And yeah, I already talked with him. And as you may guess, nothing good came out of it.

Thanks. :) I wouldn't put the hopes of the community on someone like me, though. Hopefully, pSX Author will release the next version of his awesome emulator very soon.

I use MinGW32 to build PCSX and the plugins, so I can't help you with that. :/ I will release my source in the next days after I clean it up, if you're still interested on it. About the "ID_EMULATOR_PAUSE" thing, that's really weird. Maybe someone sometime thought about adding a pause function, but then he never did it. There's no reference to that flag anywhere on the code. :/ I will post the emulator in the next post, as this one became a bit long. Sorry about the double post, I hope I'm not bothering anyone with that.

PCSX Rerecording v0.000001: pcsx-rr v0.000001 IMPORTANT: you will have TONS of desyncs if you don't follow these steps FIRST: 1) Get scph1001.bin and put it inside the "./bios" folder. 2) Configure your Plugins & Bios as follows: *Sound: "No Sound 0.4". Then you can change this one when you're replaying your movie, but select this one when you're recording to prevent desyncs later. *Bios: "scph1001.bin". Don't use the internal bios; it's really buggy and it causes a lot of desyncs when you have the sound enabled. Keys: -Savestates: 1-9: Save State F1-F9: Load State -Speed Controls: Numpad 1-Numpad 6: 1fps/5fps/10fps/15fps/20fps/30fps Numpad 0: Normal Speed (60fps in most cases) Numpad .: Turbo Mode Use "pcsx-replay.exe" to replay a movie and "pcsx-rerecord.exe" to record. :P It will automatically use the file "movie.txt" until I make some nice dialogs and a decent file format. Known bugs: Too many. Use this under your own risk and make backups often if you're doing (you shouldn't) anything serious with it.

@mz Sorry to bother you with this, but I got this problem: When I try to open either rerecord or replay.exe, it tells me "Error loading GPUframelimit: Error loading symbol" Then the config window opens. But when I click "OK" the message comes up again. I got the bios and DeHackEd's pcsx version did run on my computer, so I guess it is not the emulator itself. Do you happen to know how to fix this? Thanks in advance

My version uses a new function (GPUframelimit) which only the newest GPU plugins have. So, only the plugins that came out in the last few days work for now. You can get the latest Pete's GPU plugins here: http://www.pbernert.com/html/gpu.htm, and if you're recording you should only use my modified PEOpS GPU plugin, as that's the only one which have speed controls.
