Emulator sync settings:

  • Use wip1 timing

Movie goals:

  • Shortest input length
  • Manipulate luck

Movie Information:

This is 1,734 frames (29 seconds) faster than the currently published run. Most of this time was gained from precise frame optimizations, and slightly better luck manipulation. The actually strategy remains the same as the old run.
The goal in this game is to turn 1,000 dollars in 10,000,000 as quickly as possible. This is done by playing a mere 4 quick games. The run consists of 2 games of limit roulette, followed by 2 games of no-limit craps. The only way to play at the no-limit tables it to accumulate 100,000 dollars, which is achieved at the roulette table.
I did massive testing to try and find a quicker strategy, but to no avail. My initial intention was to play the slot machine at the fixed limit casino, and turn 1,000 into 100,000 with just 1 pull instead of 2 roulette games. The stupid AI in this game would not allow me to pull a "777" on the slot machine, which pays 200 to 1. There are 255 different pulls that can result, and I actually spent hours trying every single one. The "777" simply would not occur. That is why I needed to use the same strategy as in the published run.
Suggested screen shot: 8,000
Enjoy!

This guy is impossible. Being busy breaking Chrono Trigger, TASing Super Metroid any% v2, and doing countless tricky testings, also with new low% NBMB, he STILL is able to make new and improved TASes of other games. Don't know this game and those not watching/voting (makes no sense anyway), but I just had to throw my impression about big hero out. :-)

Yeah, he's quite the role model. Anyway, for the run ... I'm surprised the devs made a story to go along with the action, but it's an improvement, so I'll throw in a yes.

I always though this was a retarded game to TAS. Improvement, bleh. I'm voting no.

I just want to be more descriptive about my reply. This run currently beats the old record, even though it wasn't fully entertaining to watch (alot of dead space from dialog) it does beat the current record held. If I wasn't a lurker, I'd vote yes. However, I can't :(

Yeah, I used to think it was a stupid run too. When I actually learned how to gamble in casinos, I liked it much more. I would say the luck manipulation is what drew me to this game, kinda like monopoly. The run may not really be entertaining, but I find the concept to be interesting.

I quite liked the other movie, it a good game to TAS as it has the "what if real life had savestates". The chances are that you'd probally get banned before you even reached 10 million. I don't have the rom but I'll be sure to download the AVI when its published.

Weird one, JXQ. I don't get why somebody vote "no" on a run that IS faster not only by a tiny amount of frames (where this could be a valid reason if entertaining sucked on the, for example 2 frames faster improvement) but by whole seconds compared to the previous, already published TAS. Do you prefer to rather have the slower published run stay where it is instead of replacing it with a better run? If the game sucks, and there is no published run of it yet, it would be not a problem to vote no. But on a improvement of a already published run... It's like voting no on your Super Metroid 100% v2 TAS and keeping v1 instead, which of course would be the silliest thing ever. I don't see why it should be different in this case too.

The poll question is "Did you like watching this movie?", not "Should this movie be published?" JXQ answered the former like he should, and nobody should ever dog him for it.
<Zurreco> if so called professional players cant adapt to every playing field, theyre obviously not that great

Yeah, I always forget about the actual question. In that case I'm sorry, as of course everybody has his opinion. I just ment that rejecting a obviously faster run because of such no votes would be absolutely wrong, as we mostly aim for fastest time, unless otherwise stated.

I actually would prefer that the currently published run would be removed. Perhaps if there weren't so many "Boring, but an improvement, so I vote yes" votes, then this option would be considered more seriously. It's important to remember that there is no site rule that says an improvement should be considered differently than a new submission when casting a vote.

How did the previous run get published anyway? Did it come before the question changed to "did you like watching the movie?"

They were a few poorer submissions by another author until this one came along. This is the original thread http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=892&postdays=0&postorder=asc&vote=viewresult It seems it was submitted nearly 3 years ago when no voting existed. I think back then the phillosphy was if it looks optimal enough then publish it.

Yeah, and 6 "yes" votes were cast already after that movie got published, uh-huh. ;)

voting yes out of respect for how hard it is to use optimal input yet not have that bitch ask you for gas money or whatever at the roulette table

Nice that you can skip through the craps scenes. Is it not faster to play craps 3 times first, rather than play roulette twice?

I was thinking that too, but there would be one problem. Once you pick your game, all rolls/spins are fixed. I am not sure of what the odds would be of getting 3 favorable rolls right in a row. I think the manipulation delay would be pretty big. Even if it were possible to get 3 favorable rolls, you have to consider that the most frames are spent during the money win screen and the money calculation. Going through that an extra time seems like it would take longer than watching the roulette wheel spin. Edit: I am gonna try something else, I think I can make this a little bit faster. If I succeed, this will be canceled.

Why couldn't you just update the submission? Its quite off putting to post another submission with a minor improvement made to it.

1) It uses a completely different strategy for the beginning half. 2) It is 25 seconds faster than his previous submission. At a total length of 210 seconds, this time is an 8% improvement. This isn't 10 frames at the end of a movie we're talking here (which is the example given in the Submission Instructions). What's so annoying for you about someone else submitting a new run instead of updating, anyway?
