More Rockman hacks (not just 2, either) -Rockman (1) 2000 (TAS from 2008 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5317762) -Rockman (2) ABNormality (if it ever gets completed) -Rockman 2 GrayZone (TAS from 2010 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm11565736) -Rockman 3 Alpha (TAS from 2008 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm4160035) -Rockman 4 Minus Infinity (when it gets completed) etc. etc. etc. Also, in the similar vein of 3+4+5+6, possibly DEM+NC simultaneously. sample: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm1595529

if/until the requirements are agreed upon for 100% completion this is pointless to do. I have a partial fcm of 1st quest that i made for fun but i didnt plan on getting the bomb upgrades. only full inventory screen and magical all.

Hm yes this would require a lot of planning, especially around buyable items with the 255 rupee limit. Formalising the 100% definition obviously comes first (do you include all maps/compasses, bomb upgrades etc), planning the rupee collection will be the biggest headache imo. Still it will be awesome once it is done.

i do not include all bomb upgrades and maps/compasses. my definition of 100% for this game would be all menu items and magical sword/shield. i collect the letter but no medicine. and skip the regular boomerang, blue ring, and white sword. i buy the candle in order to collect heart peices and some of the secrets to everyone rupees. the rupee planning actually didnt seem terribly difficult as long as u make a list of your route/spending/item collection. after i finish my 1st quest "swordless" (more like a minimalist) tas i was considering working on the 100% run i had started.

I would love to see something come of this as it is a very awesome under appreciated game and that thread just doesn't seem to be going anywhere :/

Some awesome men should make a Dual TAS for Contra + Super C (which was refused by AnS because of that hope, but still it isn't realized)
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Have anyone tried Athena already? - It's a bad game - It's really really hard - It's not too slowpaced Maybe it could be a good TAS .. +D

I found this TAS on YouTube of Athena. It seems to be reasonably optimal.

Has anyone ever done a tool-assisted run of Super Mario Bros. that is played for maximum score? That's an idea that has really intrigued me lately. Basically it would be a 0-death, warpless, tries for maximum score speed run. You'd have a real interesting trade off at each point. You'd break any bricks that you could get without having to slow down, you'd fire-kill each enemy that you could (unless you could shell kick or stomp sequence a bunch of enemies) as long as it wasted less than 4 seconds, you'd get every power-up, you'd fire-kill Bowser, you'd let every lift drop down all the way, you'd get every coin that took less than 4 seconds, and then you'd cross the flagpole at its highest point with xx6 seconds remaining to get the big fireworks. It might be a very involved task (with the opportunity to discover new level strategies that outdo your previous score), but I think it would look pretty awesome when finished.

I know for a fact there was a warpless maximum points run (without dying or shell trick). I can't find it anymore...

Does anybody think there would be enough entertainment value in a TAS of Zelda II that completes the game with level 8 in all categories without major glitches, to make it worth it? Is the goal of completing the game with levels 8-8-8 as fast as possible going to make for an interesting and worthy TAS? The game is well known, and there are a number of fans who would find the concept interesting, but is that enough to make it worth it?

Probably not, since the regular unglitched run already finishes at 6-8-1 and almost never gets hit anyway, so spending all the time upgrading the life stat would be useless anyway. There wouldn't be much to add to the 8-8-8 run over the already published unglitched run other than "kill more enemies to get more levelups" grinding/padding. I'd rather see an unglitched low% run that completes the game with the bare minimum of items, spells, and levelups instead. I heard something like 3-1-1 or 4-1-1 by the end was possible...

I know what you mean. I just think that there must be some people out there who would be interested in what the fastest strategy to achieve both maximum levels and game completion is. The main question is how much boring grinding would be required. Is it possible to reduce the need for grinding enough to avoid boring stretches during the run to complete the game? There are a lot of opportunities to gain experience on the way to the end. What is the fastest way? The Crystalis run will feature very optimized experience gaining strategies, which is fascinating. Zelda II doesn't require maximum levels to complete the game, but if maximum levels was an additional goal to achieve in a TAS, then people could see if optimized experience gaining strategies for Zelda II would be fascinating as well.

The Crystalis run, especially the newest version that Axe is working on, are very impressive in how they deal with grinding. That said, the grinding is still the most boring part. I don't think anyone enjoys watching excessive grinding. If Crystalis could be beaten at level 1, I doubt we'd see the grinding we do. Only enough to speed the game up.

I'm pretty sure the run already gets the bare minimum of items and spells. I imagine a minimum levels run would be pretty different route-wise but that's because you're forced to fight the bosses in a semi-specific order in order to absorb all EXP. There's bound to be some backtracking to fight earlier bosses later on, long after getting the item. And you'd need to pick up way more keys, if those even count I dunno. I guess you could skip the hammer if you start a second quest and have thunder in your spell list. So if we go down that road, we don't have to actually collect any spells, already start with 'em. But it lets you skip one more item. And then, since you start with experience, you don't have to backtrack for bosses as much! But then it looks a lot like the published run but with slower bosses. Personally, I'd prefer a glitched 100% run. I don't know if levels count for 100% but if they do then everything sucks!

I'm pretty sure a low-levels run wouldn't be allowed to start with all spells. That smacks of cheating to me. :)

Ninja Jajamaru - Ginga Daisakusen aka Squashed! - pretty nice, fast-paced platformer, thougn hardly 'original', and quite little-known. Still worth.
