I think the only way to really do two players by yourself, is with frame advance, and a good key setup so you can actually push everything at once. Just hold all the buttons you need for both players, and advance a frame, lather, rinse, repeat. I'm sure FODA will chime in since he's doing Battletoads. -Cheez

That isn't always as easy as you make it out to be. I've run into situations where I am trying to hold 8 buttons, and then reach for the frame advance key. It's not pretty. An easier way would be, use two people ;p

that's why I also mention you'd need a good key setup, and a good keyboard that lets you press that many buttons. example: Player 1: Up - R Down - F Left - D Right - G B - Z A - S with these keys, you can use your ring and pinky fingers for the A and B buttons, leaving your middle and pointer to hit directions, so you should easily be able to hit any two directions + A + B, and if Frame Advance is spacebar, your thumb can hit that. So as long as you had a similar setup for Player 2, it wouldn't be too difficult...at least as far as hitting keys is concerned...

I've thought about a software add-in which makes you able to turn on/off which buttons should be held, instead of holding them. Think Caps Lock, but for any key. That would get us out of this trouble, as well as having to hold the run button for several consecutive hours. Anyone feel like coding it?

GET A GAMEPAD. you already have too many things in mind when controlling 2 characters to worry about which keys work with what keys. having a gamepad for player 2 also helps you not get TOO confused with what buttons controll which character. trust me, it gets confusing with the characters moving side to side and you pressing frame advance button 50 thousand times you eventually lose track of which one is player 1 and which is player 2 when you are worrying about making both run / jump / dodge at same time.

the cheapest one costs what? the price of a magazine?? you dont need fancy analog turbo feedback ones. a simple pad with 2 buttons will do. buy an used one.

Hmm, speaking of Zelda 2 (mentioned earlier in the thread)...I've always wanted to see a low-level run. I've heard the US version (with each attribute costing different amounts of points) can be beaten at 4-1-1...o_O Would require a lot of backtracking though, not beating the palaces until the end, and then doing them all at once...not to mention Up+A galore...

Now that I think about it, Startropics 2 might be interesting.

I don't remember if anyone's said this or not, but... SMB2j warpless. It would rock. That is all.

One game i loved as a child, but could barely beat was the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I've been attempting a TA of the first lvl, and it's proving harder than i'd think. I cannot do it right now, but i'd love to see it.

I tried that with VirtuaNES, so not many people saw it. It was kinda fun to make, but I don't know if watching it is all that great. While there are a few interesting levels, it's mostly just stuff you've seen already in the other SMB runs, stretched out to several levels. How about... Kiwi Craze? http://omake.studio-zoe.com/Kiwi%20Kraze%20(U).fcm
http://girlyyy.com/ The El Viento TAS is the only decent thing I submitted here.

Wasn't somebody going to do that warpless run on the SNES version anyway, since you could play all 13 worlds without having to get all those completion stars?

In retrospect, FODA, ALL NES games are ugly. Atleast compared to today's technology and games. If someone wants to do a Star Wars run, let 'em. That just means less time you gotta look at the 'ugliness'. ;P

I never had a problem looking at NES graphics, and I still don't. I always considered it a proverbial stepping stone on the path of video game technology. Without Famicom/NES, we wouldn't have Gamecube, Xbox, or PS2! Though, perhaps the world would be better without them.. just a thought.

you might have misunderstood me, i always though star wars for nes was ugly, not nes games. you cant tell me all nes games look good, dont put them all on the same pack please. some look great and some look bad, just like games today.
