Not really. I though collecting the powerups and morphing into ranger form before the boss would be a bit time comsuming. Meh, I need to experiment with that. (2.0 is up on my youtube)

Morphing before the boss should be a priority, since you do more damage as a Ranger.

Wouldnt kimberly beat cannontop faster?

The Cannontop fight has a lot of little errors in it, such as wasted attacks, unless they were for luck manipulation. Other than that, I don't really see much else wrong with the WIP so far.

Yeah, Cannontop is a pain to kill. I'd have to manipulate him to do his lower attack so I can jump up and punch him w/o getting hit. I usually stick with Tommy since he's balanced with speed and power. Kimberly would be faster but her power is weak. And I'll try to post the 2nd part of the 2.0 WIP tonight with Stages 3 & 4.

I'll grant I haven't looked at the game, but if it's anything like most platforming TASes, most enemies can be skipped through clever gymnastics and/or taking damage, and bosses can be killed much faster than levels can be completed. That tends to mean that you get most of your speed gains by picking the character with the fastest ground speed. I'd say it's at least worth doing a rough run of the level with the fast character and comparing the time you get.

In Ranger Form, they get the nifty backflip (seen in my 1st WIPs) which they pass through enemies. Other than that, I just jump over them. This is gonna be shown on the part 2 video on my Youtube station. (Link on the top page)

I'm going purely off of memory so I could be wrong but doesn't Kimberly have a bow? She should be able to hit Cannontop without waiting for a turn to do so.

She does when her power meter is full in Ranger form.

It's the other Power Rangers game where she has the bow without any restrictions.

Correct. Part 3 of the improved TAS will be on within a day or 2. I have to re-redo it: 1. Desynced at the beginning of Stage 6. =( 2. Forgot that you could hang on the moving platforms near the end of Stage 5. 3. Need to test out a new minpulation plan when fighting Silver Horns.

Sratch that, make that a re-re-redo of it. I found the right minpulation plan for Silver Horn and use of the hangable platforms. But I need to make sure the damn thing doesn't desync. =(

Alrighty, some bad news. =( Won't be able to upload the new part yet from my laptop. I had to get a new modem since my old one died last night, and I don't have a wireless router so I'd need to get one within the next week.

I really like the chicken dance you can do while on the surf board. Was a really nice touch.

Thank you. I try to do that dance at the end of all the boss fights too.

Why there hasn't been much progress on this in three months, I don't know. Also how I missed this topic I don't know. When going back through some of my stuff, I found I had apparently done real-time recordings of the boss fights (and only the boss fights) on Hard mode. I really can't offer much help to a TASer (other than to say Cannon Top is probably the most aggravating boss to get right, whether real-time OR TASed), but since I see little actual strategy discussed here (I've yet to see the videos for the most part) and the stage I'm going to talk about is the very one that desynched, I will say this much. For stage 4 you must must MUST use the Yellow Ranger (Aisha, if I remember it right) to have a chance at optimal. Wait to morph until the mini-boss... the way to handle that fight? Crouch-kick four times (this is why the Yellow Ranger's so crucial. Her crouching attack hits both directions) then morph - and that'll finish it on Hard mode. (I'm positive you'll save enough time by that to make the delay in actually getting the powerups worth it.) For Magnet Brain, enter the fight with full weapon power (it actually can be a little less but my recording had full power - you definitely need the weapon to be active and more than half power remaining) and just rush him (use jumps to stay close to him). If you keep attacking him fast enough, he won't be able to retaliate, and you'll eventually drive him so far back that he'll jump over you. When he does that, attack twice more, bomb, no more boss. The whole process is very quick - under 15 seconds from the start of the fight to the end. If you want a visual, let me know. Last thing. Does the White Ranger (Tommy) have more actual power or something? I only remember that his range in Ranger form was shorter than everyone else and his backflip took significantly longer to do (in my recordings I only used him for the Ivan Ooze fight, and the latter point is the exact reason why).

Sorry about a hiatus in this run. Been up to my head with college work/job/shit going on in my life. But I've still been trying to find a use of more of the rangers in this run instead of using Tommy. Aisha would make a best choice for the 4th stage for her double split/crotch kick for the mini-boss. Cannon Top is still my biggest problem for downing him. Kimberly would be a choice for me for her bow attack in full powered ranger form, but her regular form is just too weak to run through that level. As for the other rangers, I will NEVER use Billy because he's just weak overall. And it's a three-way tie to either use Tommy, Rocky or Adam. I don't know if I want to go for speed, or power. I should have my scheduel back to normal soon and will be back to work on making this TAS work and hopefully published. =) (Unless someone else beats me to this, which, I'm fine about it. Just hoped I inspired someone else to try this game)

It's a shame. This is one of the TASes I was looking most forward to.

To get my mind off any NES project, I've been working a lot on this these past few days, and I'm loving TASing this game. I have a WIP that completes the first two levels, finishing level 2 at around frame 31600, around one minute faster than boct1584's WIP. Here's the .smv. This game is definitely not trivial to TAS; most enemy attacks need to be tested with many different strategies. Overall, grouping enemies together and finishing them off with a 4 hit combo is usually the fastest way to go. Due to the complexity of the game, there are probably some strategies that I've overlooked. Please throw out any ideas or suggestions you have. I think this game makes quite a nice TAS, and I intend to submit this when it gets done. I found an additional TAS on youtube here if anyone is interested.

Very nicely done. Using a jumpkick to keep the Stage 2 boss stunned long enough to deliver the last hit of a combo was a great idea; I had no idea you could deliver three hits, a jump, and then finish the combo. Using your bomb before he started flickering around the area was also a good idea. This might just be me being arrogant, but I think my WIPs had a bit more entertainment value, because I was using the kick-to-backflip a lot, and IMO it looked cooler. Unless I missed something, you used it once, in Stage 1 before the morphing point.
