I just need to add, after watching it, I was sorely disappointed. I had competitions on an old SNES at University for speeds on Super Punch out, and I have console records that are faster than this time attack. In some cases, of 4 or 5 seconds. Of course, this isn't for all boxers, but it was sorely disappointing to me. I'm going to have to put my money where my mouth is one day and make a video I guess.

I agree with him but I thought in publishing it, some people will try to beat him. I have seen that Nick Bruiser can be beaten in 8.79 seconds at Twin Galaxies site. http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=22&g=Super+punch+out And Dragon Chan in 8.15 seconds. And in the ending sequence it is written that Bear Hugger can be beaten in under 17 seconds. So there's a lot of improvement to do.

@Fuzzmosis I like to see a 4sec video, because it's not possible as far as I know ;). Here are the non-assisted WRs: 6"26 13"49 5"50 8"64 --- 5"50 7"56 6"33 13"15 --- 8"45 10"60 9"24 9"58 --- 8"58 8"35 11"09 8"71 I've watched the movie and it's an average run, could be improved by 45sec. with the WR strats. I could give it a try if there is interest.

just a side thing,
and in the ending sequence it is written that Bear Hugger can be beaten in under 17 seconds.
I haven't beaten the game in years so I don't remember, but because the number "17" is in bold, I would guess that the number is stated in relation to how quickly the player actually beat him.

I wasn't saying that I have beaten any boxer in under 4 seconds. The closest I've heard of that is the old claim that Gabby Jay can be beaten in 2. Never seen that, I've seen people try for hours though. I was trying to claim that I had beaten some of the times by 4 seconds, not a boxer in 4 seconds. Maybe I was overtired? I was just voicing my disappointment that drunken super punch out in a basement yielded better times than a time attack video prepared by someone with the intent of going as fast as possible.

Gabby in 2sec. is BS, sorry but even with cheat codes it wouldn't be possible. There are some players that claim times of 5"9x or 4"9x for Piston but belive me or not that are all cheap fakes. 6"26 is maxed out, 2 pause tricks are used for it. Btw. I've edited the WR list in the post above, Rick can be beaten in 8"71 now for example ;) .

I'm pretty sure it can be faster than 6"26. Maybe I should try it myself. Edit. Btw what's your source for these records?

Phil: The pause trick is a little coding thing in the game where if you hold a direction then pause, your opponents guard is set that way. Doesn't help on overall time, but helps on in game time. (For example, if you do it correct, You start Gabby Jay with 0.01 seconds and his guard up, rather than down. Or was it down, rather than up? Either way. Sets their guard with no time cost to you) Just searching for any ranking will give those numbers, the site I use actually has videos of similar times.

Are you sure Piston is only a 6"26? I might be mistaken, but I have this vivid memory of my brother beating it faster....meh.

Thats what I was talking about. I might have read it wrong. And, 2 seconds on Gabby Jay is impossible. It takes more than 2 seconds to hit him 7 times at the start...

In the previous post I talked about Gabby Jay, yes. Because I posted before that the 'official' record for Piston is at 5"50...sry for the misunderstanding. For the strategies simply look at www.gamefaqs.com and search for 'super punch out' and scroll through the faqs or better through the forum :) .

I used to lose all the time in this game, but then I realized that all of the people run on a pattern. Still though, my best (no start tricks) for Nick Bruiser is 31', and I was proud. The game is difficult (not where as much as so it's NES counterpart) and it was fun to watch the movie. I own the game on my SNES, and I do play it sometimes, but this video just demonstrated flawed perfection. He didn't get hit, but he can improve his times.

this could never be more true. i find it rather discouraging that someone takes the time to make a (exellent) run at this game, or any other game and some of the time are only met with criticisim or comparisons to other apparant runs that people claim to have done years ago that were faster. thankfully this is'nt always the case and there is some great feedback, other times not so good.

Well you gotta keep in mind that most of the people (including me) watching these videos except no less than absolut perfection. When there are non-TAed records that beat the ones on this site, it just looks bad.

i happen to agree with part of what you said. when there is a run that is done without save states, slow downs or rerecords that beats the time of one that is made with, then there is a problem with the run. however i have never seen any type of record or time for this game and many others and still the same thing applys which i said above. and to accept no less than "absolute perfection" is fine, but when you pick apart someones run saying how bad the times are thats just you being an ass. again i loved this run and was fun to watch. i've already ripped this as an AVI and have no interest in updating it as i honestly dont care about a 1.356 second improvement.
