I wonder why 600 people have registered but then done nothing with their account.

Maybe they never got their activation email? Would these types of accounts be in this list?

Administering a board with 134 0-post users (out of 619, in only ~5 months) I can say that it isn't very strange at all. Our board doesn't even have any activation features -- it's just register and post. Perhaps they just registered to register, or were going to make a post but thought better. There's no reason anyone knows, because since they never post, it's impossible to contact htem back and figure out why :) I suppose it's an unsolved mystery indeed. Although I wonder how long it took Nesvideos to collect 600 0-post users.

Maybe some of them wanted to vote on a submission, but then realized that newly registered users cannot post until a certain grace period/post number is reached.

Yes, but those aren't the majority (making only 1/6 of the deleted accounts).

I think quite a few wrongly assumed you need to register to download an AVI. I go to one forum with an online game that you need to register to play. 50% of users have never posted.

I'm pretty sure a large majority would try their luck first and have a go.

And maybe the 600 is actually the minority, since this site's just that popular?

They could also be users who just like to lurk and still keep track of where there are new posts... in which case I can imagine them being a bit upset if their account was deleted. A "reply to this email if you want to keep your account" could be a good idea. Or looking at how often they log in instead of how often they post.

There actually is a clause like that in the deletion e-mail.

The deletion'o'matic checks a few different aspects for making the decision. Unfortunately though, there is no data from which to surmise how often the person has been reading the forums.

>There actually is a clause like that in the deletion e-mail. Oh, so there was a deletion e-mail. I didn't see anything about it in the topic before this. Then all should be good, never mind my complaints.

The deletion e-mail looks like this:

There's no need to worry, as people that log in to track new post log's in at least once every 2 month ? So if it's past a certain date, there's no problem. By the way, what was the date ?

100 days for non-confirmed registrations, 250 days for confirmed ones. Btw, this was the third or fourth time I ran the user purge script during the operation of the board. Rarely anybody cares, but perhaps AngerFist likes big numbers? :)
