I couldn't find something similar when i searched the forum index but I was curious as to how all the members discovered TASvideos. My journey towards hitting this site began with a speedrun of SMB 3 someone sent me which was rather impressive. Immediately I hopped on google searching for more NES speedruns which led me to Arc's page which had some really cool shit on it. Some of these runs were labeled as being on Bisqwit's site and then BAM! There I was on bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/ (now TASvideos) and the rest is history.

Haha. That pretty much is my story as well. My brother showed me a SMB3-run, found Arc's site, and yep.

Same for me. Although, I "idled" on arc's site for more than a year, then discovered SDA, and subsequently nesvideos.

Before even creating this site Bisqwit pointed me to Morimoto's SMB3 video and, AFAIR, he explained me it was made with Famtasia, which had rerecording and slowdown features. I remember that he got interested in making a run of SMB1 in the same way, and kind of challenged me to beat him at level 1 using Famtasia. I tried it a couple of times but didn't pursue it too much (at that time I didn't really see where all this was going to be heading, so I didn't have an enormous amount of interest; at the time it just seemed like a curiosity but little more). I actually don't remember now if he ever got a complete run of SMB1 done; maybe. Anyways, after setting up a really ascetic first version of the site he got me interested in making a run of Rygar (still using Famtasia at that time). I made some versions of it. Bisqwit: Do you remember what were the first videos ever published at nesvideos? It would be an interesting trivia.

I found this site... err, by creating it.

If anyone does, that would be Nach -- he has also been around since the very early days. These are also two snapshots of the site from early. http://bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/backup-nesvideos.html http://bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/nesv-old/ It is possible that Rockman 2 was the first one. It was not SMB3, because I had a call for the Japanese ROM on the site for some while before I could encode it. (That who responded to my request, later had a published TAS but hasn't much been seen otherwise.) After that, probably what followed were Morimoto's Gradius, Rockman and Youkai Douchuuki, then my own SMB2 (a couple of those) and my SMB1, followed by Michael Fried's SMB1, SMB2j by us both...

For the most part that was how it was for me but I'm not sure if I hit Arc's site or not. Yeah, it started with Morimoto's SMB3 TAS (can't remember where it was hosted 'cause my brother showed me it) and I just wanted to see even more runs from then on, knowing how well they were played intrigued me. I believe I searched for speed runs as I was unfamiliar with the term Tool-Assisted Superplay/Speedrun. I saw a few more somewhere before finding out where they originated and that's pretty much how I found this site. Of course, back in 2005 I found the site's address difficult to remember (Nah, not really. More like laziness) so I usually would just type in Bisqwit in google search (even though I could have easily bookmarked it but I'm a stupid, stubborn man :).

And you found "Bisqwit" easy to remember and type? ;) I know it's easy for me because I've done it thousands of times for 13 years, but others have complained :)

Yeah, it's unique and chances are I may have joked about it so it's memorable.

I found it because Bisqwit pointed it out to me.

And in fact I do. I'm not sure which was the first, as when I first came here, both Rockman 2 and Gradius were up. Then Rockman 1 and SMB3 were added. This was followed by Youkai Douchuuki, and SMB2 by Bisqwit (2 or 3 times), and someone I forget who did Ghost N' Goblins. Site was really small back then, and such a novell idea.

I actually saw the site a bit before the SMB3 explosion. I remember this because when moSMB3 came out, I already knew what it was and where it came from. Didn't register for eons, though, since I had no reason to do so until |Icc| made the Demon's Crest thread.

Along time ago I was a speed runner of zelda:lttp. I was talking to TheSilentAssassin and he mentioned these people using save states and stuff who were going to make a run of this game, and gave me a link. It is ironic because the mention of these people, made think of them as the enemy. I thought I had to beat them even though they "cheated."
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

Someone posted the "pwning mario 3 in 11 minutes!!!" video on some NES forum I haunt. We all thought it was neat, speculated about how it was made, you know. The usual. Then I forgot all about it. One day, out of the blue, someone reposted the video, saying they had found out what the deal was. And there was a link to here included. Looked around, didn't watch any movies, and forgot all about it. Got bored one day, looked up the thread, found the link, downloaded a Battletoads video. Lurked for a while. Played around with Famtasia for a few weeks. Eventually registered to submit a piss poor Marble Madness run. I have the ability to get interested in things far slower than an ordinary person.

Being mostly a PC gamer and not a console guy the first speedruns I saw were qdq. Their site had a link to sda. That was back in the days when sda was a quake-only site. I was there when Radix created the "other" section in march 04 and became hooked to speedruns. And somehow, somewhere during that time, I noticed nesvideos, probably by a link on the sda forums. I've been sticking around since then, someday registered on the forums, and I still regularly visit both sites and enjoy both assisted and unassisted speedruns. But I'm not active at their forum any more, it.. well.. became less attractive over time.

I followed a link from GameFAQs, don't remember if it was from Megaman X or Super Mario Bros (1 or 3) forum. I was just lurking some forums & found a topic about this place & imagined that I would surely know how was SMB3 run made, as my brother though the images were edited :P (as opossed to just use an emulator with re-records...) As for registering, I saw the FFV thread that Boko made & decided to create an account to contribute with ideas & such :)

Stumbled upon the recently published movie #342 while browsing Archive.org, followed the link in the intro, lurked for a month or so, registered.

Stumbled upon Arc's site Randomly when there was only like 10 videos there (combining speedruns and TAS)... found links to SDA & Bisqwit's site from there... registered only a few months later when I wanted to make a few posts

I don't actually remember. I think its highly likely it was some sort of run that led me here. Thats about the best answer I can give. Probably Super Mario Bros. 3 by JXQ.

I first learned about the site through archive.org, smb3, smb1 (fake) and track and field are probally the first ones I saw. Lurked for months but never registered, heck I couldn't even find the forum for ages so I mostly had my head buried in the FAQ section, mainly becuase I couldn't figure out how to download AVI's through not having BitTorrent and couldn't figure out how to play a movie file through not having the emulators or the roms. How I ended up finding the forum and registering? ZOMG this forum knows nothing about OoT and the up to date tricks and methods methods.
