Did you try to make Spark Mandrill dash at you first? It saves a few frames. Also, I know you don't like to act like a madman, but you don't like to move a lot during waiting periods. I can do something simple within 60 frames, and one doesn't have to be close to hit the boss. Even walking around or dashing around is welcome for me.

Yeah I noticed the loss of frames due to his shooting out the sparks. I'm not so keen on going all the way back to just after beating the miniboss to manipulate which is the only opportunity I saw to slide down the wall. And I know if I hex edit, it will cause a lot of desyncs. I'll let this be your call. Edit: My brain must not be working right. I had forgotten that I could either kill more or less enemies or delay frames to manipulate. I'm gonna play around with that and let you know how it goes. Edit 2: I got Spark Mandrill to dash and saved 7 frames in the battle. I also tried to do a few entertaining things in the waiting periods. Anyway, do you have any suggestions for the next level?

I'm not sure how you saved 7 frames, because I thought having Spark Mandrill dash saves 3 frames. Armadillo's stage: - You don't need to take the Sub-Tank and Heart Tank now. If you have an argument for taking the Heart Tank ASAP, let me know. - Use memory watch for Hadoken capsule visits. This is very important. - You need to take 1, 2, or 3 deaths at the Hadoken capsule. This corresponds to 2, 3, or 4 visits respectively. Note you can only take 3 deaths if you have an extra life. I recommend 2 deaths, hence 3 visits (as in the test run). - Before the first visit (this is on the life that you enter the stage with), take damage without losing time (while using the mine carts). Then you can take death on one of the birds at the end like as follows: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1233477923/Mega%20Man%20X%20%28V1.1%29%20%28U%29%20armadillo%20test.smv - There are some places with a lot of lag so reduce it. - You can prevent a flying bird from spawning if you are not standing on the mine cart when it is supposed to spawn. - Armored Armadillo can be hit three times with charged Electric Spark. Note that charged Electric Spark does 6, not 4. See published any% run (boss refights) for an example. Take note of the Chameleon Sting battle, as you will have to do it later. Or me.

Not only did I lose frames from him not dashing, but he also shot out the sparks which randomly causes him to have one extra frame of invincibility as long as the sparks are visible. As for Armor Armadillo, you mentioned that it's only possible to suicide off the birds the first time through the stage. But can't you do it again since you have to go back to the beginning of the stage anyway.

The second time at the beginning, you have (almost) everything, including armor. It's not possible without wasting time. For boss battles, I usually check the frame number I hit the boss on. Since bosses have 60-frame invincibility, the next time I hit the boss should be frame number + 60.

Armor Armadillo is defeated. The stage started out fun, but after all the lag I had to get rid of and the pain I went through manipulating the boss to do what I want, this has to be the most aggravating stage. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1248821082/mmx100tas.smv

It's aggravating, but rewarding at the end. Launch Octopus' stage: - Lag. More lag. - Use Rolling Shield on the ship minibosses. It's not as efficient as Chameleon Sting but it does more damage than anything else. Yes, the first hit does 1 damage. I don't know why. - Use charged Storm Tornado on the ship that drops down and opens a path. Use charged Storm Tornado on both sea serpents. Note that lag occurs if the dying sea serpent is still on screen.

I'm done with Launch Octopus. His stage wasn't so bad since it was so short. Also there was no manipulation involved at all at the boss. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1698597417/mmx100tas.smv

I forgot to tell you to disable background 1 (the '1' key by default) to see the underground sea serpent, but evidently you didn't need that advice. Sting Chameleon's stage: - Against the miniboss, the Boomerang Cutter does 3 uncharged and 4 charged, but the charged form takes too long to clear. The miniboss invincibility is about 30 frames. - You can use charged Rolling Shield to bypass a rock monster. The third rock monster can be bypassed with correct pixel positioning. See the published run. - Grab the extra life in this stage (unless you think you can get a life some other way). - See the Sting Chameleon refight in the published run. This is what you want to do against Sting Chameleon.

I'm finished Sting Chameleon's level. Your re-fight with SC was far too slick for me to mimic in a timely manner but the important thing is that frame wise I was able to match it. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/335346886/mmx100ptas.smv

Ooh, new wip. *downloads* Looking good. I'm guessing you need no more lives, because I think it would look snazzier if you managed to grab the other (nonrandom) extra life with boomerang cutter in SC- and you aren't lacking in shots against SC itself, so...feasible? Just a suggestion. (edit: argh, browser lag hit submit first time)

The thought crossed my mind to grab that extra life. But I decided that it would defeat the purpose of me grabbing the other life and starting the charge for the robot with the same shot.

You can shoot while charged shots are on the screen? I didn't know that. Chill Penguin's stage revisited: - No comment Armored Armadillo's stage revisited: - I used charged Chameleon Sting to pass through the bulldozer to get the Sub Tank. I thought about taking damage to pass through, then destroying it with charged Fire Wave, but I never tried. - For the Heart Tank, you can save it until the very last visit (when Hadoken capsule visits says 4).

I doubt that destroying the bulldozer would even come close to being as fast. Not only do you lose time from the damage animation, but you also have to deal with all the extra lag caused by shooting the flames and from the explosion. Is there any advantage to doing that? I can't see any.

I finally got Hadoken. I think this is the last time I'll ever work on this game all because of this level. It's pretty pathetic when I have to check each and every frame the whole time I'm on the carts to look out for lag. And I wasn't acting all crazy on the carts to entertain. I was doing it to reduce lag. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/290106796/mmx100ptas.smv

looking pretty awesome man! I had an idea for the e-tank in the armadillo stage. Might be faster, but I am not sure. check it out I think it is faster by a few frames based on comparing images. The set up required for this would be a pain though. The chameleon invincibility needs to be perfectly timed to wear off at the right frame so that X can switch weapons. May be worth looking into.

I don't know and I'd rather not know. It is very lagtastic, and it's too late.

Wow, I would've never thought of that trick. At first glance I thought for sure that your way would be faster. But when I compared frames, it turned out to be a few frames slower even after spotting you some frames for any possible sub-optimal movement. Your trick may turn up to be around as fast if there is a way to reduce some of the lag. I remember getting rid of at least 5 frames worth at that part. Fractal, do you have any suggestions on the next stage? Should I take damage before Vile? edit: Hey hero, I decided to frame perfect your trick off of the same save state. It wound up being 15 frames faster than my WIP. The only problem is there is not enough time from the beginning of the the stage to that part for SC's power to wear out.

Oh, there's more than enough time. I tested it out. Sigma 1 stage: - Vile does 3 damage but damage can only be taken every 90 frames. The lesser enemies before do a max of 2 damage but damage animation can be cancelled on a wall, so damage is taken every 64 frames. - You should still take damage as you go to Vile's room, especially the last giant turtle robot before the moving platforms since that uses up almost no time. - Do not enter Vile's room with less than 12 health. Preferably it should be a multiple of 3. - If Bospider gives you trouble, you can let me handle it.

Hey did you factor in the 19 frames of lag on your way there? edit: Nevermind, I didn't take into account that you can go a few more frames before you can switch to the boomerang and still save time. But there is extra lag while charging on the cart which would most likely negate any time saved. Anyway I'm through fooling around with this trick. Time to conquer the next stage.

yeah best not to worry about the armadillo etank. odds are it would be exactly the same time even fully optimized :P but could you post your .smv of the trick optimized? I would like to see it just for fun.

I had to re-download your file since I deleted it. Luckily I still had the save-state. Here you go. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/8627392/test_optimized.smv
