What happens if the timer goes to 0 at the same frame it gets reactivated? :o

I'm confused as to what you mean. Why yes it's a triple tick. If you're talking about it being in my TAS run, no it won't because I triggered a cutscene that was meant to be triggered later. Jlun it will give you a game over. If you do it one frame before it will reset the clock.

It's a reference to the 'double rainbow' meme and nothing more.

Looking back at the thread, can this trick be used without groundpound? Link to video Since I was wondering would that allow you to skip the first goomba fight.

I've already said that was an improvement in my submission. I've included it in the new Prologue that I made. There's an extra invisible wall before the Goomba Trio battle, so I can't skip it.

It uses cheat codes anyways, so it won't get accepted regardless. Speaking of which, I'm surprised even with the use of cheats it still takes 47+ minutes to get to the credits. :o Now if only there was a way to skip tower of riddles like that as well....

I loved the Professor Frankly antics. Now if only you could get both him and Flavio to follow you at the same time.

That would be funny, but unfortunately it doesn't work. If you get a second non-partner NPC to follow you, the first one will despawn, leaving you with only the second one.

Just so you know, someone on nicovideo is reuploading your Levitate% TAS but it's not marked as using the Levitate cheat code anywhere in the title or description. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm23251335?ref=search_key_video Someone who knows Japanese (Is FractalFusion in the house?) should PM the uploader and correct this misunderstanding.

I wonder to what extent a Super Paper Mario TAS would actually look like this, since that game has a (non-cheating) bug which produces a similar effect.

I have a couple questions regarding the route in pirate's grotto. In the room that leads to the first grotto key with the small waterfall; it is possible to hover with Yoshi across the lowest ledge instead of jumping up the first two platforms then getting on Yoshi. (I hope you guys understand that description. I plan to make a video once my capture card comes in) Is this already known and has it been timed vs. jumping up the two ledges then getting on Yoshi? In the room after the spikes where you have to roll under them in tube mode, is it not faster to stay in tube mode and hop across the barrels and boat all the way up until you get the the wooden planks? I'm guessing it is faster to not stay in tube mode since you are using the speed glitch and tube mode has a set speed.

Good questions actually. 1. If I recall correctly, you can't make it from that distance. I will keep that in mind once again when I get there. 2. I have no clue and haven't though about that. The first problem is that when you first enter a room, your speed drops significantly when you're rolled up. Next, you have to turn to make it onto the barrels. I'll play around with it. Thank you for your ideas :P

The timing for the hover across the platforms is pretty precise but I plan to use it in my segmented run I've been planning. You can hover both to the room with the key and on you way back. I'll make a video sometime next week. Also, if the tube strategy ends up being faster, you could apply it on the way back after exiting the bullet bill room. Btw, I'm really hyped for this new run! :)

That segmented run interests me as well. My old one is obsolete since it was done before all these major discoveries. On-topic: nice and solid Prologue Malleo, keep up the good work.

I'm curious about the strategy used for the first two phases of the Shadow Queen battle you guys used in your last tas. This strategy below skips the shadow queen striking with both her hands but has an extra turn for Mario and his partner. I saw this in NamiNami's run and thought it might be a bit faster but I might be wrong. Final Boss: Shadow Queen
Mario: Swap to Bobbery Bobbery: Bomb Squad Superguard attack Mario: Power Bounce x4 Bobbery: Swap to Vivian Phase 2 Starts Bomb Squad goes off Mario: Failed Jump Vivian: Swap to Bobbery Crystal Stars Cutscene Have you guys timed this method versus the one you used? edit: Pirate Grotto Timesaver

Thanks NamiNami! I appreciate it! Unreal, I am not sure about that strategy... I can't think well enough to determine if it's faster. I'll talk to Almo about it. And thank you very much for a video of that! I definitely missed that then and I'll use that. That will save a lot of time ;)

Just a bit of a progress update: I'm completely done with Chapter 1 and the intermission and I'm working on Chapter 2 now! It may seem crazy to have progressed that much in such little time but: 1) I encoded my prologue when I was already halfway done Chapter 1, 8 days ago. 2) Since I have already TASed through the game, I know what to expect and how to optimize things better. 3) I have an Excel comparison spreadsheet to make sure I don't lose time so I can progress faster. I'll have the encode by Tuesday/Wednesday most likely. Wait until you see what crazy stuff happens!

Great work Malleo! Sounds like chapter 2 will be done in no time. :) I have a question regarding the Hooktail battle. How precise is it to get the 3 cycle on him? I have gotten 10 jumps on him before on console but it seems the timing for the 10th jump is really precise. I have yet to perform this sequence. Boss: Hooktail Mario: Power Bounce x9 Koops: Shell Toss Guard Hooktail Fire Mario: Power Bounce x10 Hooktail Cutscene (Answer “Yes” for 1000 coins to take 5HP of damage) Mario: Power Bounce x10

It apparently has nothing to do with frames: Post #362760
That's poorly formulated. Let me give you an example: The Shadow Queen, second phase (real form). The maximum number of jumps you can do on her is 10. For every jump starting at the 5th jump you have a 67% chance of getting a jump cap. Getting jump cap meaning that you stop jumping on the enemy even if you hit the action command. So that we basically had a 0.39% chance (around 1 in 256) of getting 9 jumps in a row.

Wow, I had no idea about that. Thanks for the quick response! Would you guys know the percentage of getting a jump cap on Hooktail?

I have no idea really. It seems like a 9 jump cap is really common more than any other. Anyway... Link to video
