hiii i saw a tas video on youtube like 2 days ago and want to make my own, but am using a mac have downloaded mupen64 and have multiple *.z64 files of SM64 (there were 27 in a *.7z file - is there a consensus best one by name?) anyway, i can get them to play with no problem, but i was wondering if i'll be able to go forward from here... it seems like there is a specific version of the emulator used for making TAS videos with the TAS features... will this work on MacOSX? its been years since i've used linux ... if it will work could anyone give me a quick list for installation and getting started? also, i assume most people use USB controllers? do you know where can i get one that will work with a mac/TASemulator combo?

the file you want is «super mario 64 (x)», where x is the code of the region want. generally the american version is used here. nintendo 64 tas's i believe can be done without a controller. the emulator you use should be compatible with any controller with which mac os 10 is, and mac os 10 should automatically use any usb controller thats pluged in. at least thats what linux does. edit: html escape sequences wont work for some reason.

i'm sorry i was originally unclear... i downloaded the mupen64 emulator from its main website, not a "TAS-enabled" version if there is a such a thing? the one i downloaded doesn't have the functionality i assumed it would to allow the creation of TAS videos... however, it does properly allow me to play the game i was asking if there is a verison of the TAS N64 emulator that works on MacOSX, and if anyone had any experience installing it ...

I'll try and seperate fact from fiction The rom you want is Super Mario 64 (U) [!].z64, but Super Mario 64 (U) [!].v64 should work as well. As for MacOSX I don't think there is a version of Mupen thats compatable. We used to use controllers in the very early days of TASing with Mupen but now we tend to use the TAS 0.6. pluggin

I've used the Mupen port for OSX, but I've never had any luck with getting much to work with it, unfortunately. Sixtyforce has always worked better for playing for me. And I don't think that anyone has made a port of the rerecording version of Mupen to OSX, although there may be one floating around somewhere. Your best bet, if you have an intel mac, is to get parallels or boot camp and just run the emulators in a windows front end. If you're like me and have one of the last G5s, you're kinda out of luck.
