Okay, I'm interested in this game, but only as a viewer. I guess I'll have to read the previous 4 or 5 pages to see who's challenging the published MM4 and/or what improvements are found.

Awesome! I'm glad you are taking interest, even though it's not physical (TASing the game). The important thing is that you are taking interest. :)

Yeah, and besides I am taking a break from The Atlantis Factor. Willow has wore me out dramatically as well, so yeah, it'll take time before I get in the driver's seat of a game. But are you in the driver's seat of this game? I'm just curious. ^_^

If by 'Pharaoh Shot glitch' you mean pausing and unpausing to charge up without using ammo, I think that'd be too time-consuming. Maybe if the cockroach twins could be beaten with another weapon quickly enough so you'd be able to have enough ammo to use it on pharaoh man, you could do it. I doubt that, though, since charged Pharaoh both does the most damage (tieing with charged Mega Buster) to them and it can be fired diagonally so you don't have to wait until the second one moves up the wall.

I was talking about creating a charged Pharaoh Shot above Mega Man's head, sliding, then throwing an uncharged Pharaoh Shot, thus resulting in more than one charged Pharaoh Shot above Mega Man's head. You don't need to use the pause feature. This enables you to hit a boss with fully charged Pharaoh Shots every time the boss turns vulnerable again. And about the cockroach twins, that is a good idea to use the second strongest weapon against them so that I won't have to worry about refilling Pharaoh Shot.

OK, I've watched the latest MM4 video and watched the Pharaoh Shot usage in the Cossack/Wily stages: -Cockroack Twins (12 ammo); -Bright Man (9 ammo); -Ring Man (4 ammo); 3 ammo remaining, the TASer got one small refill beating Wily with 5 ammo (actually six but with 1 ammo you can still fire a charged shot). Now if we want to beat Pharaoh Man we would need to drop one of these (or get a big refill, but with MM4's slow energy scrolling that may be slower) by using another weapon. -Wily Capsule and Ring Man are weak to Pharaoh Shot so we can't replace these; -Cockroach Twins would need to be done with Pharaoh simply because it's 'weakness weapons' both do 2 damage and at the end of the run neither Ring Boomerang nor Drill Bomb would have sufficient ammo so things would have to be mixed up so basically it's not a good idea. -Bright Man could be done by either the Mega Buster or, the fastest option, Pharaoh Shot (Rain Flush is way too slow): you could drop Pharaoh Shot on Bright Man and use it on Pharaoh Man instead. Pharaoh's boss room is right next to Ring Man so that would be a time-saver. Conclusion: fastest option is to do Bright Man with the Mega Buster and Pharaoh Man with Pharaoh Shot. Maybe getting a big refill also works, but it could be slower.

I think that getting a powerup would be faster. A good place to get one would be killing the last minor enemy you have to kill in Wily Stage 3 and getting the powerup from that enemy when I switch to Pharaoh Shot. Other news, I finally have Cossack 4 all mapped out! Here it is: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/446090739/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%204%20%28U%29-stage0B%28cossack4%29.fm2

Looking nice... hopefully it can be used at a few other levels as well. Edit: Did you time how much for instance this saved at that last room (before the boss), compared to regular sliding?

looks very nice. The rush jet glitch use part has increased because the down scrolling became possible. :) The adjustment of the height of the rush jet and getting on are also smart. We should search for other stage where the time switched to the rush jet can be saved by the rush jet glitch. :p It is interesting that Ring Man Stage doesn't have the death judgment in the wall. (Because MegaMan was often buried on the wall, the developer might have put it. )

Yes I did. The average speed for pulling off the Rush Jet glitch is 15 pixels for 30 frames, so that's an average of 6-8 pixels a frame. Average sliding is 2.5 pixels per frame. In the time you took for those 30 frames to slide, you would have only traveled 75 pixels whereas the Rush Jet glitch makes it to at least 180 pixels in those 30 frames. That saves more than 45 frames of sliding (not counting the time it takes for the Rush Jet to appear)!

Well... the whole point of the question was to take into account the time for the rushjet to appear. If that takes longer than the time saved by it, then the glitch can't be used nearly as much. Edit: I just tested, in this particular room (last room of cossack 4) it's about 12 frames faster than just sliding. In this room, you drop however down from the start, so you can't slide right away, while you can summon rushjet right away. This makes me somewhat doubt that this is faster in the middle of a long horizontal room, if not obstacle is skipped.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to say. If the time saved is worth the wait, it will be faster to use the Rush Jet.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1251138666/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%204%20%28U%29-07perfectrunthrough.fm2 OK! This time I finally optimized the usage of the Rush Jet for Skull Man's stage so that it saves every possible frame. :) This time around, I used the trick to zip the Rush Jet every 2 frames in the first room. This allowed me to get extra height for getting up the ladder at the end of that room. Then in the third room I took the lower route which saved more time. The rest was optimized by better sliding and screen positioning (not sure about lag reduction).

I know...I feel bad for him too. T_T At least I went for the fastest time possible, so he's gonna be out of the boss select screen sooner than he thinks. ;)

I found a new glitch, but don't get excited; it's useless. See it here.

It happens because Wire pulls your sprite down (as MM attaches to the lowest part of the ceiling) which equals death in MM4-MM6. It's not as much a glitch as a combination of exploits (not being forced to slide at that part IS a glitch, however) as it's a combination of game physics' exploits. Nice find, though.

I think that the idea switched from RushMarine and MegaMan is buried on the wall is new this time. There is movie of the wire. :) http://www.yuko2ch.net/rockman/ttwwiremm4.mpg http://www.yuko2ch.net/rockman/ttwwire2mm4.mpg http://www.yuko2ch.net/rockman/m4ttwwire.mpg

Still searching for glitches, but in the meantime, here's a video of 5 clips, showing off a few little things I found.

I was wondering if you knew about how Mega Man can warp from the pit to back to the platform as it's getting off the screen in Cossack 3 (essentially wrapping around the screen as far as I can tell). I had that happen to me just now when I was on the Cossack 3 autoscroller, playing on the console. I'm not sure if there are other factors to this. Not very useful, but can be entertaining if it can be incorporated in a TAS. Another thing, similarly to what t3h Icy demonstrated before, you can die vs. Bright Man repeat and if he kills himself on the Pharaoh Shot and drops his health refill on you, you get life energy and warp to the teleport room, with Bright Man still dead, Mega Buster equipped. Likely only wastes time, though. Sorry if you knew these already, I haven't been keeping up with the latest WIPs, I'm a bit lazy in that regard. Edit: Hahaha, apparently the latter isn't limited to getting energy post-mortem if the boss dies fast enough afterwards. Silly me.

I guess Capcom shouldn't have tried to combine destructible terrain and moving ceilings, huh? :)

That last one was really a nice treat :) Thanks! This might've gained motivation for me to pick this up again.
